Interview
with RedEye, FEMALE CHARACTER Award of 2002 Tell
us about yourself and your literal interests.
I'm a 25 year old male, presently residing
in Smths Falls, Ontario,
Canada.
Recently I was accepted into the Royal Canadian Navy. I start my basic
training on April 14. My main literay intersts are science
fiction/fantasy (particulary the Doctor Who and Tarzan range) although I occasionally
drift towards westerns (particularly Ralph Compton)
What
made you become a TYR-writer?
I became a
TYR-writer to showcase the minor and/or special guest
characters.
I was going to write one Barnett story; one Thompkins story; one Jake
Coulter story; and one Kangaroo Kid/Amanda O'Connell story. Then
seeing that Kid wasn't being represented well in TYR-fiction (all the ones
I've seen he's either a cypher or it focuses on his relationship with Lou)
so I decided to showcase Kid in his own adventure where he's not mooning
over Lou or competing for her affection with Jimmy.
What do you look for in fanfic?
Like I said above I like a good Kid/Lou story. (That and a few
steamy scenes between the two helps!)
What
do you feel is your strengt/weakness in writing?
I think my
main strength with my writing is a healthy imagination and dedication. I always
finish what I start. My weakness is probably that my mind tends to wander. I'll
be working on one story and then I'll get
distracted by an idea for another story.
Who
or what is your source of inspiration?
I honestly
don't know what the source of my inspiration is. If I win again, maybe then
I'll know.
Have
you written other fanfic than The Young Riders
Nope. Not
yet, but I am working on a Doctor Who and Misfits of Science story(s).
What are your writing goals?
I would like to get something published before I die.
Where
will you be in 10 years time if you get your way?
Hopefully a Petty Officer in Her Majesty's Navy (or at least a Master
Seaman).
Any current writing projects?
I'm presently trying to finish 'Bloodwatch on the Border' and a TYR/Dr. Who
Xover. I'm also working on 'The Bounty Killers' an story about someone from
Teaspoon's past starts killing bounty hunters, then starts coming after the
riders (one rider is hanged and another is killed).
What advice do you have to give to other writers?
If you have an idea
write it down as fast as you can. Don't worry if it doesn't make sense, you
can always clean it up later (that's what beta readers are for).
A thank you speech, please
I I'd like to thank
Starbright for nomimating me and all the people who voted for me. And Calamity
Jane will return (I hope. Wait and see. (Also if Jimmy/Lou fans want to see
what Lou's life really would've been like if
she ended up with Jimmy, read Calmity's August 1876 or Becca's The Road Less
Travelled By.)
Thank you RedEye!
