The Paths That Cross

at the Saddlin Station

".........Shenandoah, I long to hear you, way, hey, you rolling river. Oh Shenandoah, I long to hear you, way, hey, we're bound away........"
Jimmy strained his ears to listen to what he thought just might be singing. Turning his glance towards his friend, he was barely able to see that his lips were moving and then he was able to pick out a soft voice."Kid, since when have you been singing while you ride your horse?"
Kid finished his line. "........Cross the wide
Missouri." He paused for a moment looking down once again at Lou who had not even attempted to open her eyes, or make much movement whatsoever. "I always do that."
Jimmy was a bit taken back. "No you don't."
"Yes I do, Jimmy. Do you have a problem with that?" His friend asked. Sounding harsher than he had intended.
"No, I just didn't think you sang and rode at the same time." Jimmy chuckled to himself. Of course he wasn't going to confess how many times he'd sung My Old Kentucky Home between towns.Kid responded absentmindedly.
"You've never been on a run with me when I was by myself."
"Huh?" Jimmy's confusion was certainly warranted.
Kid ignored it and continued with his song, keeping his voice low.Jimmy shrugged and began singing along with his friend. ".........I long to see your fertile valley........"

This particular scene is from one of my all-time favourite fanfics, each time I read it it cracks me up. Jimmy and Kid are riding in the middle of no-where taking a sick Lou home, when Kid starts singing and they have an argument over whether he usually sings when he rides, or something like that anyway - just go and read it for yourselves!

Great spin to a wonderful children's book. Nell captured the spirit of both the original book and Cody. This is a fun read! :)

Every interaction Jimmy and Cody had with those adorable yet oh so annoying kids.

Starbright

Forever Mine

at Ponnyexpressen's sublibrary Sweetwater Epics

The story

Nesciri
There are too few stories of this kind in the fandom and when Starbright also managed to write one with such brilliance what else is there to say? Enhancing already known characteristics among the riders she turns them effortlessly into 'Gary Stues' and makes you smile broadly throughout the story.

The Raider

The very idea of Thompkins imagining himself as the larger than life, nobler than noble hero of Rock Creek was funny in itself, but then to add Teaspoon and his bumbling gang of misfits as his arch enemies made me laugh out loud. The image of the beautiful and virginal Rachel Dunne being tied to the railroad tracks only to be saved by the masked hero made me remember Saturday morning cartoons!

I giggled all the way through the story -- it is verbal slapstick at its purest and best. Talk about bad karma!

This story is hillarious! Loved Kid's real name-Twinkie Hostess.
Now I can see why Kid never wanted to let anyone know what his name was. I also loved the menu and the meaning for each item. I laughed so hard I was
crying when I read this.
