Jon was the perfect example of what Lou's son should
be! He was absolutely precious, making you just fall in love with him!

Rafferty

He's the perfect Byronite hero:
bad but good, dangerous but loving, and soooo cool. Also,
since I'm fond of using quotes in every possible situation,
I can totally relate to him.
Lily Shannon
First off, Rafferty was a sexy, sexy man. He
had that dangerous, bad boy quality and yet he quoted
Shakespeare and Emily Dickinson! He was funny and interesting
(he robbed stagecoaches for the heck of it!) and romantic
at heart. I loved how he fell for Lou and how it brought
out another side of him. I can completely understand Lou
falling for someone like Rafferty, even as much as I love
the Kid and Jimmy. Rafferty was a great character and
I really wish we had seen him on the show!

I
thought the portrayal of Jackson as Kid's son was very believable. His
character had the same shyness, reserve, and determination of his father.
The same quiet dignity that made you feel for him and wish for Lou to
hurry up and accept him into her heart fully.

Joe Jacobs

It's rare to
think of nominating the bad guy for an award, you always want the good
guy to win, but Connie wrote Joe Jacobs as the dastardly villain so well,
how could I not nominate him. From moment one I knew Joe was going to
be a character that I was going to loath. He raped and murdered an innocent
girl, plotted against his twin, kidnapped him, and tried to assume his
life with in the Express and with Lou and that's just going to far. Connie
made it easy for the reader to hate Joe and I guess that's what makes
her a good author, if she hadn't been so harsh with his character, I do
not think the story would have been as effectual. It's a shame she had
to kill him off - it would be interesting to see him in a sequel. (Then
again, the riders did leave before the hanging

This isn't a male character that leaves you with any affection, but you
certainly love to hate him. He
leaves a lasting impression on the reader, and that is undeniable. He's
a well-written villain straight from Raye's imagination.

I hate Wicks, as I'm sure everyone does. However, I feel that this category
is not just for the good guys, but for the bad guys as well. Lisa did
a marvelous job making me hate Wicks even more. He was a great villain,
the man you love to hate, and Lisa really elaborated on the character
introduced to us in the show and turned him into a real sick devil with
a mind almost too twisted to fathom. Every good story needs a good villain,
and Ethan Wicks is perfect in that role

Bastard. There's no other word to adequately
describe this character. Through phenomenal descriptions and actions, he
came across as the devil he was meant to be and as his crimes unfolded it
was easy to begin to hate him even more. Yet, just when you think Julian
Westward had peaked as an amoral son-of-a-bitch, he goes and not only kills
Nan, but also has the audacity to brag about it afterwards to Jimmy! Julian
deserved every punch he got from Jimmy when he was escorted to the jail
and every year he received in prison for his crimes. Sid's depiction of
this man who thought himself "King of the World" was amazing.
He would win for best villain hands down, but for now he'll remain in the
male character category. This character belongs in a true novel and I hope
one day Sid plagiarizes herself and uses him. |
