Those are only two clips out of two of the stories in this wonderful series that gives you an example of such a wonderful character as little Dara Hickok.
Excerpts: Through Her Eyes-"Daddy?"
Hunching down in bed he leaned closer to her. "I thought you were asleep."
"I was trying to wait for you."
He couldn't help the hand that reached down to playfully grab at her pouting bottom lip.
Dara giggled as she waved his hand away. "Stop that."
Valentine's Day 1876-Dara turned and sat down, her back against the window. "Why do they do that?"
Louis caught the apple that he'd been tossin' in the air and turned to his sister, "Do what?"
"Hug and kiss all the time."
"'Cause."
"What?"
Louis shrugged his shoulders and took a big bite out of the apple. "'Cause."
"Because?"
"Because they love each other."
Dara shook her head, "Why?"
Louise rolled his eyes heavenward, "Why what?"
"They kiss because they love each other? Why?"
"Cause that's how you show it."
Dara nodded, considering his words, "So you kiss and hug because of love."
"Yeah, Love and Babies."
Dara's face turned green. "Babies?""Yeah, Babies."Dara thought of Billy Gentry saying he wanted to marry her and have babies. "Eewwwww!"

Stan Keller...he's just what you would imagine a bad guy was like..Cindy did a good job in describing the man's twisted way of thinking..
Excerpt
Stan Keller held out his hand across the pile of goods, a friendly gesture meant to signify that the deal was done, and everyone was satisfied. Across from him, the leader of the Arapaho hunting party studied Keller for a moment, then returned the gesture, holding out his own hand. They shook on the deal, and then Keller unwound his lanky frame and stood up. He watched as the five Arapaho also stood and backed off toward their horses.
Keller kept a smile on his face, and a hand very close to his gun. He might trade with these scum, pretend to be their friend, but he didn't trust them at all. Hell, the only reason they were leaving this little trade alive was that he needed them for something more important. They didn't know that, of course. Which was good, because if the Arapaho had any idea of what he was planning, they sure wouldn't leave him alive either. |
