A Question of Priorities

at the Saddlin Station

A sharp noise woke her up a couple of hours later. She cursed herself for falling asleep and quickly checked on Kid. No change. In the kitchen, she found Jed collecting the pieces of what was once a glass, while her daughters were giggling as they watched him. She made them something to eat and sent them outside to play. Feeling it has been too long since she left him, she returned to the bedroom. She gasped and rushed to the bed as Kid tried to rise into a sitting position.
Her hand on his shoulder, she forced him to lie on his back. "You need to rest." She whispered.
"Water." He mouthed and she let him sip some from the glass that waited for him to wake. Lou felt no words were enough to express her emotions at the moment and so she just sat by his head, caressing his curls and lightly kissing his forehead and his brows. "How are the kids?" he asked after a few minutes. His voice faint and the pain he felt lingering in the blue orbs.
Lou stroke his hair gently, wishing with all her might she would be the one carrying the pain instead of him. "They're fine. We're all fine, Kid. You too. We were just waiting for you to wake up. The children miss you."
"What about these men?" he asked.
"Some of them are dead." She said. "Three ran away."
"Who?" he asked.
"We could only identify the dead ones, but I couldn't recognize them. I don't think they live here."
"What about Shuster?" Kid asked.
"He wasn't one of the dead, Kid." Kid nodded and immediately regretted it as a major headache hit him. "The doctor should be here later today." Lou said as she noticed his increasing discomfort.
"How bad is it?" Kid asked.
"The doctor said the wound will heal just fine if there won't be an infection. He wasn't sure about you because you hit your head on the step."
"Is Jimmy okay?"
Lou nodded. "He went to look for Buck. I told him you'd like to know how is he."
"He's not going to find him." Kid stated.
"I was worried about you." Lou changed the subject, eager to tell the Kid what had been on her mind since he told her the truth about Buck. "I was worried I won't have the chance to tell you that I love you."
"I know…" Kid whispered, wishing in his heart she'd kissed him, since he had no strength to pull himself up by himself. "I'm sorry for not trusting you more."
She continued. "I want things between us to return to the way they were. I wouldn't mind it if you decide to work long hours and only come home late at night, as long as you will come home eventually, come to me…"
Kid could wait no longer. "Kiss me…" he whispered, cutting her in the middle of her speech.
"What?" Lou didn't quite hear what he was saying, her mind on the rest of her thoughts she hadn't yet verbalized.
"Kiss me." Kid requested again.
Lou smiled and kissed his forehead. Kid closed his eyes and closed his lips together, trying to explain better what he meant. Lou giggled and kissed his nose.
"Lou…" he growled, but was soon shut as her lips met his.

Starbright.
Finally a scene where Lou is in pain over Kid, it is usually the other way around. But here she really is concerned and I love that she shows her concern so openly for him, for a moment forgetting the thoughness she usually displays. The roles are reversed Lou takes care of the Kid and not the other way around sniffle...more of this!!! And it takes A REALLY strong woman to admit one's wrong!

Jack Fell Down

at Ponnyexpressen

Jack stared at the clean lines of Jimmy's profile, fixing him into her memory, every detail: his cautious smile, his thin lips, the way his eyes tilted down at the corners, his laughter, the comfort of his company, his loyalty. 'Oh, God, you'll go on all day if you keep this up,' she thought reproachfully.

"What are you thinkin' about?" His voice was low, playful.
'You,' she answered silently. Could she say that? Did she dare? To hell with caution. "You, Jimmy."
He seemed pleased. "Really? That's kinda coincidental, you might say."
"Why?" She couldn't resist teasing. "Were you thinking of yourself, too?"
He played along. "As a matter of fact, yes. I was just admiring my lovely complexion." They laughed.
"I always knew underneath that tough exterior you were just another conceited dandy."
"A *what*?" Sometimes the terms Jack used were still completely lost on him. He knew she was joking, but what the hell was a dandy?
"Ehm..." Jack hesitated, her brow furrowing as she thought. "A fop," she offered. When he continued to look puzzled, she tried again: "A gadabout? No? Ehm...a lazy, good-for-nothing rich boy."
"Ahhh." Jimmy broke into a grin. He shook his head, chuckling. "I don't guess I'll ever get over that accent or those things you say sometimes."
"Makes life rather interesting, though, eh?"
He nodded. "Yeah, I reckon it does."
"And it's not as if I always understand *you* all the time, either! For instance, what exactly is 'tarnation'? I remember Teaspoon saying that all the time." She did an incredibly bad imitation of Teaspoon's Texas drawl, "Why, hellfire and tarnation, boys!"
Jimmy burst out laughing. "Was that supposed to be *Teaspoon*?"
"It wasn't good?" She pretended to look wounded.
"You sounded like yourself...only drunk."
"You're a beast." She smacked him lightly on the shoulder. He caught her hand in his and drew it through the crook of his elbow, resting it there. She gave him a shy smile and walked closer beside him.
"Let's not waste our time arguin' over how we talk," he said smoothly.
"No," she agreed.
"We've wasted enough time already, haven't we?" He met her sad eyes with his own and Jack felt a harsh pang.

I would like to nominate the following sequence from Jack Fell Down to both humorous and romantic scene. it's simply so sweet and so funny. Not to mention how educating it is, half of those words *I* didn't even know.

Lisa and Melissa
Memories of the heart

at the BuckStop and Sweetwater Times

Sidney opened her eyes and found herself staring into the black abyss of his gaze. His eyes were dark with desire and Sidney knew that she was seeing a mirror image of what her own eyes were showing. At that moment, nothing existed in their lives except for the other. Sidney felt like she was in a dream, everything moved in slow motion. Buck’s face was coming closer and she closed her eyes, half expecting the screech of a child to interrupt them. But their Gods must have been looking out for them because the only sound that either one heard was the soft moan that they both emitted as their lips finally touched. Sidney wrapped her arms around Buck’s neck and pulled him closer to her, her body pressed firmly against his. Buck groaned and deepened the kiss, silently willing time to stop and let him and Sidney remain as they were. The kiss seemed to last forever, the unrelentless fire burning deep within their united souls. Sidney ran her fingers through Buck’s hair, pulling it loose from it’s ponytail, letting the silky strands slip through her fingers, while Buck ran his hands up and down her back, cursing the material that kept him from her warm flesh. After what seemed like an eternity, both finally pulled from their passionate embrace and gazed hungrily at each other, both trying to catch their breath, both aware of their swollen lips and flushed skin. "You don’t know how long I’ve prayed that you would do that," Sidney told him breathlessly as she traced her finger over his cheekbone. Buck bent down and nibbled gently on her ear. "You don’t know how long I’ve ached to do that." Rae
Wow....you want to know what my motovation for nominating this as most romantic scene was... well just read it! Sydney felt desire, I felt it...Sydney was breathless, so was I....Sydney was lost in the black abyss of his gaze....yikes! so was I!

What Might Have Been

at Ponnyexpressen and at The Hitching Post

His presence was intoxicating and she felt she needed to run away, but at the same time something held her back. She wanted this to happen. Other men had wanted her and shown it too. Kid just sat there making her unsure and it excited her more than the overt invitations from others. She had no idea how to treat men like him. Sometimes he was an enigma--like now when he looked at her with the same gaze she remembered from that first day. He knew her and he knew her well, but he was not hers and might never be. And she so wanted him to be.
"Better get some water," Lou said and rose. Walking to the stream she sensed him walking up behind her. Lou's hands started trembling again and she stuffed them in her pockets. When she stopped at the small stream she cursed herself, she had forgotten the canteen.
Kid stepped up beside her and handed her what she had forgotten, an amused smirk on his face and humor in his eyes. Lou smiled at him, apologizing wordlessly for the silliness. Kid's eyes rested on her and she could tell his breath had quickened just as her own. Reaching to grab the canteen from Kid, her fingers landed on his and he wouldn't let go. The warmth of his skin under her hand had her reflexively wetting her lips with her tongue. Looking into his eyes, she let go of the canteen and it fell to the ground. His eyes held that question she had seen before, the question, an invitation almost, that only she had the answer to. They stood there, looking at each other, the air around them filled with an almost tangible attraction.
What happened next wasn't clear to her. Suddenly she found herself in his arms, his strong arms around her and his lips pressed to hers. The velvet touch she remembered so fondly in her dreams made her close her eyes as his tongue softly traced the crack of her lips. Opening her mouth she kissed him deeply, like she'd never kissed him before, extending her own invitation. One of his warm hands lay low against her spine, the other in the middle of her back as their tongues met in slow, mind-shattering movements and Lou's arms clenched around Kid's neck. Her heartbeat rose and the intimacy was turning her inside out. She drowned in the kiss, it made the surroundings evaporate. There was no ride, no Jon or Jimmy or Amber, there was just the two of them in this moment that felt so right. She felt his heart beat against hers and his breath caress her chin as he pulled away. Lou drew him closer, she didn't want him to go, she never wanted him to go. He must have seen it in her eyes. The blueness of his had her knees shaking. This had been happening for so long, it had been gradually building up between the two of them, leading them to this moment, but now it felt like too much and too sudden. She was about to lose herself in him and she didn't care.
"Lou," he whispered breathlessly before he rubbed his nose tenderly against hers. The caress was like nothing she had expected, it was not just physical need, it was something so much more than that. She needed everything he was and she knew he understood that. And he was willing to give it all to her. They stood there face to face, their eyes drinking each other. Her hands wandered into the curls she longed to feel run through her fingers. She was swung up into his arms as if she were a child and he walked the few steps to the bedrolls extended on the sand.

Connie
Do I need anymore motivation. Oh, I can almost feel the tension. Becca did a great job of creating the intense emotion felt by them, by all of us who love Kid /Lou and know they were destined to be together.

Riding Out the Storm
at The Hitching Post

The rider was galloping toward her. Kid was galloping toward her. It almost looked dangerous, this wild woman in men's clothes, tearing across the rock and dirt and uneven terrain, heading straight into the path of a powerful horse ridden by a man who looked like he might just lose sight of the woman if he didn't ride like the wind. Two people careening towards one another, with only a crash to stop their momentum now. Tears were blinding Lou's vision as she scrambled up a small slope and found herself directly in the path of a thundering Katy. Too overcome to scream, she stumbled to a near stop. When Kid saw Lou was in his path he pulled Katy hard to the right, skidding her to a near-stop while he simultaneously threw his right leg over the horse and leapt to the ground. Almost falling, he felt Lou's strong, little arms reach out and grasp him to her. Tumbling against her, he threw his arms around her and together they collapsed to the ground. The moment they each felt the other's touch, a simultaneous cry passed between them, each uttering the other's name. Tears and dirt and sweat and skin were the first sensations, only tactile. Slowly, weeping could be heard, then the smell of hot horses and paerie grass. The sweet and strange taste of eachother's mouth and face, whatever could be reached in seconds. The tangle of senses countinued on until both were out of breath, holding on for life, grasping at lost time. A strong wind picked up in the midst of the reunion and swept past the huddled couple, cooling their skin in a sudden blast. Only then did the hold they had on eachother loosen just enough for Lou to take the first look into her husband's eyes. Pulling back from him slightly, her eyes closed, she prepared to see Kid for the first time in four years. Tears still flooded her lashes, streaking her face making wisps of her hair stick to her cheeks. And then she opened her eyes. "Still blue," she whispered.

Had to reach for a tissue when I read this part, and I don't shed tears easily. The emotions in those lines are so intense and the images underslines the sentiments perfectly. Thos lines left me sniffling and wiping my teaars while I smiled like a goon.

Demons
at Ponnyexpressen

Removing the cork, Buck brought the open bottle to his nose, breathing in the scent, allowing it to permeate his senses. It smelled so good closed his eyes and drank, but did not swallow immediately. Instead he held the liquid in his mouth and savored its taste, delighting in the feel of the warm fluid as it slid against his teeth and spread across his tongue. His body cried out, protesting the selfishness of its mouth and he finally swallowed, the warm liquid flowing down his throat like a satin ribbon. Its soft touch teased and excited him. Buck felt himself grow weak and fell back against the tree trunk collapsing to the ground, every nerve in his body exploding in euphoria as a moan of pleasure released from deep within him.
I t was an unusually warm day and the shade the old tree provided was a welcome respite from the heat of the afternoon sun. Buck stretched out in the cool grass underneath the tree, gazing at the sky above through the canopy of green leaves fluttering in the breeze. He felt his bones and muscles, every fiber of his body begin to soften and slowly turn to liquid, as warm and fluid as the contents of the bottle he held against his chest. If not for his skin holding the liquid inside him, Buck felt certain that he would simply flow away across the prairie.
The rustling of the breeze through the leaves of the tree created a soft, hypnotic melody. The song reminded Buck of the music other Kiowa children learned to play on their wooden flutes. Although, Buck had crafted his own flute, Red Bear was too busy with his duties as War Chief to teach him to play. Buck tried to learn on his own but the sounds his flute produced were anything but pleasant. Sadly, he rresigned himself to enviously listening to the other children's music. Buck watched as a leaf broke free from the boughs overhead and slowly floated toward him. Reaching out to catch the falling leaf and capture its song, Buck felt it enter his body through his hand. The leaf was carried down his arm and through hisbody, as if floating on a stream, its gentle music filling his entire being with a feeling of complete contentment.
Buck wished he could stay there forever - that this feeling would never end. But he couldn't let anyone discover his secret. Although miles away, he was certain he could hear the jingle of Teaspoon's spurs on the sidewalk as he left his office and headed toward the station. The creak of the buggy's wheel in the distance told him that Rachel was on her way home, too. They would come looking for him if he stayed - searching for him like a child who had strayed too far from home.
Elise
There are many, many things I love about this story. But I especially love how Kim personifies the "demon" that haunts Buck throughout this tale--the demon of laudanum. She creates a relationship between Buck and the drug that is similar to a relationship between secret lovers. The drug literally seduces Buck in a very physical and sensual way. There are several scenes in the story where the drug first lures and then completely seduces Buck, but there is a scene in chapter six that describes this strange and terrible romance perfectly. All I can say is, you must read this story. It is extremely well written.

Alternative Story Line for Seems Like Old Times
(The Horitha Episode)

on The FanFicList

Kid laying in the dirt blinked his eyes and once again looked at what had caught his attention, but there was no one there, he shook his head, muttering about seeing things. As he stood and began dusting himself off he froze as he saw her running toward him.
"Kid, Kid are you alright?" he heard the sweetest sound he had ever heard and watched as the dream he had dreamt so often began taking place. It was her...this was real... Louise was here and running into his arms.
He was so shocked that he couldn't speak. She launched herself into his arms, briefly forgetting that he might be injured. She tried to pull away, fearful that she might be hurting him but he just held her tightly, afraid she'd disappear if he let go. She placed a string of kisses all over his neck and face, finally reaching his lips. She placed a quick tentative kiss on his soft lips and peered into his eyes, seeing the love she had hoped for she kissed him again, this time however, not slowly or tentatively, this time with all the months of stored up passion and desire. Telling him with her kiss that she loved him deeply and that she wanted to be his.
Starbright
The man is dirty and sweaty and Lou launches herself into his arms. Love these scenes where it's so evident that Lou loves him. That is absolutely what I would have done. I want to be his too, uh eh excuse me my delusion, this scene just brings it forth! This is how them writers should have made the episode!

Different Worlds

She sat at the vanity and began to brush her long hair, it was a tangled mess from the night's activities. Kid watched her, loving the scene; wanting to be a part of it. "Can I brush your hair Lou?" he questioned hesitantly.

Surprised she looked up at him and handed him the brush then turned back to face the mirror. She watched him as he carefully picked his way through the tangles. Feeling relaxed she closed her eyes and enjoyed the caressing of the brush.

He watched her in the mirror, completely relaxed and enjoying this act of love. He became aware of the intimacy of this moment. He realized, among other things they had done lately, this too, brushing her hair, was also a special time reserved for a husband and a wife.

She was disappointed when she felt the brush stop and opened her eyes. She saw him staring at her reflection in the mirror. His blue eyes dark with desire, the need she saw there had her body shiver. He knelt behind her and kissed her neck softly. "Oh Louise, you are so beautiful" he whispered, telling her again what she meant to him.

She turned on the bench to face him and again he kissed her deeply and passionately. Their passion uncontrollable, they made love on the floor, neither of them even noticing the hard boards under them, aware only of their intense need for one another.

Lisa R
Just the fact that Kid wanted to do something so simple for Lou, that he wanted to be a part of the mundane makes it romantic. Yet at the same time, he made the mundane spectacular by letting it feed his desire for her. CC did a great job of writing in the passion between the newlyweds as well as their inability to keep their hands off each other.

Lookin' Back

on The FanFicList

Her eyes glued on him, she missed the step up to the porch. Her ankle bent under as she grabbed for the post.

Lou turned away from Jimmy as her cheeks colored again... 'How stupid can I be!' She hobbled into the bunkhouse wishing she could disappear instead. She pulled out two chairs at the table, nearly fallin' into one. She propped up her ankle and was relieved to see that it wasn't swelling. 'That's somethin' at least. I acted like such a...'

The door opened and Jimmy walked in. He was dryin' his hair with a towel... his shirt tied around his waist and the top button of his pants still undone. Lou kept her head down tryin' not to look at him.
"What's the matter Lou?"

"Nothin'-"

"Nothing? You just disappeared... I was worried."
He tossed his towel onto his bunk and looked down at her.

Lou continued to stare at her ankle and poke at the tender skin. He still undone. Lou kept her head down tryin' not to look at him. Lou continued to stare at her ankle and poke at the tender skin. He walked closer and Lou cringed, too close... he was way too close for her comfort, "I tripped... hurt my ankle."

"Why don't you sit on Cody's bunk and I'll take a look at it."

Lou scooted back on Cody's bunk, keepin' her eyes on the floor. She could hear the scraping on the floor as Jimmy pulled a chair over.

Jimmy laughed, "Well - put your foot up here."

She hesitated and Jimmy picked her leg up and set her ankle on the chair between his legs. As he took her foot in his hands Louise grabbed onto the sheets next to her body. Jimmy looked up as her nervous laughter caught his attention. "Leave it to you to be ticklish Lou."

Lou wanted to tell him it had nothing to do with being ticklish.

Any lingering pain she felt disappeared as his thumb touched the in-step of her foot. Slowly his right hand moved over her ankle, moving across each inch of skin in careful examination. Louise looked over at the wall, afraid to watch what he was doin'. Turnin' her leg a bit to the side, his fingertips danced along the length of her foot, gentle pressure sending waves of relief and sensation through her. Her shoulders sagged and she leaned back against the pillow.

He watched her face carefully. Each time he touched a different part of her ankle or foot her expression would change. Now, as he trailed his fingers down the tops of her toes she almost laughed.

"What's so funny Lou?" a half smile of his own flared in reaction to her.

"Mmm..." Lou's lips parted slightly as his thumb rubbed against the arch of her foot, "It feeeeels so good."

His breathing changed at the sound of her voice, warm and languid in tone and feeling. It flowed over him, drawing him into her world. "You like that, huh?"

Lou's eyes slid shut and she nodded. His left hand never left her foot, instead carryin' on the blissful torture he had begun. His right hand pulled the cuff of her pant leg up to her knee and then moved back to her ankle.

Two fingers circled her ankle with room to spare and continued to slide along her calf, her soft skin driving him to distraction. He felt her muscles tense under his touch as his fingers rubbed across the back of her leg. Jimmy leaned forward, watchin' her face, seein' pleasure fall across her sweet features.

He was playin' a dangerous game - they both knew it - but neither cared. Jimmy leaned closer and felt her toes brush against his stomach. For a moment he was lost in the intimate touch.

Her eyes flew open and stared into his, "What are we doin' Jimmy?"

His infectious grin caught her up in its magic,"Doin'? Nothin'...yet." Eyes, darker in the dim light of the bunkhouse, held a promise that made her breath stop in her throat. His right hand cupped the back of her knee and he moved closer, leaning over her legs.

"Hey y'all!" Cody stopped dead in his tracks as the two riders froze in their places. "Whoo wee! What do we have here?" Lou pulled her foot out of Jimmy's hand and sat up on the bunk, bumping her head on one of the posts. Cody stared at one and then the other, "Hot damn Hickok - looks like I interrupted you two-"

"It ain't none of your business Cody, drop it."
Jimmy looked over at Lou - she looked like a cornered rabbit, tryin' to squeeze through the wall behind her. He wanted nothing more than to shield her from the embarassment he knew was heavy on her mind.

Cody pulled a chair around and straddled it, resting his elbows on the back. "I'm only havin' a bit of fun, looks like Lou was havin' fun too-" He continued to chuckle as Lou scooted off the bunk and padded ouside in her bare feet.

Grabbin' Cody by his shirt collar Jimmy hauled him up to face him. "Can't you take a hint!? I said drop it!"

Immediately contrite, Cody tried to save himself a world of hurt, "Sorry Hickok, no harm intended... it'sjust that you and Louise-" Silenced by a look, Cody shrugged his shoulders.

Jimmy dropped him back into the chair and started out after Louise.

Even as a Kidette, I have to say this was a very romantic scene between Jimmy and Lou. You could
feel the heat between them and the sparks were almost
tangible.

The Streets of London

at Ponnyexpressen

Home. Home was the pair of them now, watching telly on the sofa, eating takeaway curry, decorating the flat for Christmas. Home was using his razor to shave her legs despite his repeated requests for
her to use her own, and it was Jimmy's socks laying on the floor no matter how many times she told him to pick them up; it was their toothbrushes in the cabinet side by side, and it was lazy Sunday mornings in bed reading the paper and talking. It was knowing his favorite meals and planning holidays and complaining about the rising prices of eggs. And it was more than that. As Jimmy reached for her again, their hands fitting perfectly together, Nan knew just what home was.
Home was Jimmy.

Laura
I loved the gentle, romantic feel of this part of Sid's
story. The picture she painted of Nan and Jimmy's life together was
beautiful and heartfelt, but simple at the same time. It showed the
reader how comfortable they were together and how in love they were
and, I've got to admit, I had a stupid, goofy smile on my face by the
time I'd finished reading it. Brilliant!

Aimee
To Live Without You

at Kidnation and The Hitching Post

Chapter 6
DCAmy
Despite the fact that Aimee has Lou dying at the end, the death scene, found in Ch.6, with her and Kid is just priceless. Maybe a death scene wouldn't normally be described as romantic, but this scene - Lou and Kid was just that.
It's Christmas Eve and Lou just gave birth to a little girl, but the baby was born early and it's just too much for Lou. So the little family is together for the first and last time and then the doctor takes the baby outside so it's just the two of them and they make promises and profess their love to each other...it's just incredibly romantic...Aimee did a great job with the whole story, but especially this chapter.
