These are strange days
I've just got back from London (the others are still there, pleasuring themselves). I must say the whole London thing bordered on the surreal. It was all too easy and once again, I'm fearing some kind of balancing intervention from above. The concerts went well and the response was almost overwhelming. Again, we didn't know what to expect from the two nights, because I thought London was a place for hardened, cynical people. But the bits we got to see was quite the opposite and I'm thankful my prejudices were useless. The bleak, dim sunlight of London was soothing for my skin and the air was free to breathe.
Of course I have to mention our indie celeb guests. On the first night in Shoreditch, Bid from the Monochrome Set and Scarlet's Well stood in a corner and watched. On the second night in Kilburn, Dan Treacy from Television Personalities did the same thing. I spoke to him for a while, but I think I got approximately 15 % of what he was saying and his dry humour was largely lost on me. Seemed nice though and I'm quite sure we will see him in Scandinavia in the near future. We will also see Bid playing in Sweden and Finland very soon.
Butcher Boy was great and their album must is one of the absolute highlights of the year.
And nothing can be done about this stream of absolutely beautiful faces, disappearing into nowhere, because that's the way it has to be. What lies deeper, the common, everyday loneliness of the heart or the perverse joy of convincing yourself that some things are not made to last for more than a few moments? It's not implausible that years from now, I will realise that I didn't want it any other way.
