I've worked for three days now at Vasabladet. Scanning old photos has been my only task so far. The purpose is to digitalize the old photo archive, which will take a long time, because there are some 35,000 envelopes with photos to dig through. I'm rolling back the years now, looking at rather dull faces in monochrome from -93. Often there's no explanation at all to where these people come from, but lately, the captions have been more frequent and detailed. And also, some of the pictures are quite intriguing taken out of context. All those people, all those lives, where are they now?
Anyway, I'm sitting in a nice, comfortable room now, my father's. But it won't be for long, as it was decided that I have to move to HSS Center, where all the photos are. That's a shame, because it looks awful. There was this corridor with two small rooms, crammed with photos in metal drawers. In front of the window, there was an empty desk with one skew leg. Hope they fix it. And the technology, there was none! So, while I'm enjoying my stay so far (I have a two active speakers to go with my iPod, one flat screen and a comfortable chair) in the heart of Vasabladet, next to the chief editor, I'm not so sure that I will be equally satisfied with the Kafka-like conditions in HSS Center.
I was at DOM and PaNe last night. It was allright, I saw talked to at least two persons I haven't really noticed in that sense before. Point taken. But, ALAS, I met some serious DORKS too. That's a shame.
