Beef Chili with Coffee

This recipe is adapted from Keith Floyd’s TV series Around the Med. He cooked this without the chick-peas and chili.

  Off-the-Shelf components
  1 lb stewing beef, 4 cloves chopped garlic
  1 tsp crushed caraway seeds, 2 tsp crushed cumin seeds
  2 cans tomato pure, 2 chopped green chillies
  1 cinnamon stick broken in two, 1 TBSP butter
  1 TBSP finely ground coffee, (espresso or Turkish)
  1 can of chick-peas (drained), salt, pepper, sugar to taste
  fresh tomato wedges, chopped parsley, chopped spring onion



  Cooking
  Melt the butter in a pan, and brown the beef.
  Add the garlic, crushed seeds, tomato pure, chilies, cinnamon.
  Add water to cover, and simmer over low heat untill the meat
  is tender, 30-60 min. Stir in the coffee and chick-peas.
  Cook a few moments more to blend the flavours.
  Adjust taste with salt, pepper, and sugar.
 



  Ready to eat!
  Garnish with tomato wedges
  and chopped parsley and spring onion.
  Serve with pita bread.
