20th April: Hatcher & Hatcher, Bash Brothers...

Do you remember Kevin Hatcher? Yes, the former Penguin-defender.

Kevin was great those years he spent in Pittsburgh. Moving into the 2nd place of most-scoring US born defender of all time, behind Reid Larson.

The Hatcher’s have a great hockey-playing family. Kevin has two brothers.

One retired from NHL-hockey, the other one currently playing in the NHL, captaining the 1999 Stanley Cup champions; the Dallas Stars.

Mark Hatcher and Derian Hatcher.

Derian is a highly respected defender of the Dallas Stars, and also the captain on one of the NHL’s best team late couple of years, also collecting their first Stanley Cup in 1999 beating the New Jersey Devils in 6 matches, and he was the first American born player ever to lift the Stanley Cup as a captain.

Kevin on the other hand, has never won a Stanley Cup, but he was the captain of the Washington Capitals a while before he was traded to the Dallas Stars in front of the 1994-95 season.

derianh.jpg (6683 bytes)Both of them are physical players, both can give and receive hits, but even though; Derian is more physical than Kevin; Kevin on the other hand sets up goals, and scores more goals than his younger brother. While Derian had a total of 59 goals and 239 points in front of this season, Kevin had a total of 277 goals and 677 points at the same time

Both of them were members of The United States Olympic Team who won the World Cup in ’96, and both were playing a big role, contributing to the US victory.

If I was a NHL general manager, the first thing I would do, was to trade both Kevin and Derian to my team, and put them in defensive pairs. Who would know each other better than brothers, right?
