6th May 2007
The Rangers were pressured to win as the Sabres visited MSG for Game Six. After a first period without much in the way of action, Nylander scored as he nicely moved the puck to his backhand and got it in the net!
The Sabres got right back at the start of the second period, as Kalinin wristed a shot on net that deflected in. Buffalo got the lead a little while later as they scored on a onetimer. The Rangers didn't sit back for long - scoring a power play goal on a slapshot!
Buffalo again got the lead at 12:19 as Jochen Hecht scored the 3-2 goal on a wristshot. Callahan was penalized for a holding penalty a few minutes later, a very strange looking call, on which the Sabres got the 4-2 goal.
The Rangers had a power play a few minutes into the third period and Jagr poked a rebound into the net!
The Rangers continued to put good pressure on the Sabres, but instead Buffalo had a deflection go into the net with just five minutes to go in the game. The Rangers never gave up, however, as Nylander scored his second goal of the game on a beautiful power play wristshot. The Blueshirts could not get back to tie the game in the final two minutes. A sad end to a great series and season. Jagr, who had a tough season but who got better and better as the season went along, ended the playoffs with five goals and six assists in 10 games.
The site will of course follow Jagr during the summer that leads up to a 2007/2008 season when Jagr will be back in full strength and health right from the start.
5th May 2007
After two impressive games in New York, the Rangers travelled to Buffalo to battle through another game.
The first two periods features no scoring, as both teams played pretty good defense, not letting the other team to many good chances. The Sabres had most of the offense, especially in the second period, but Lundqvist stepped up and kept the Rangers in the game. Both teams had its fair share of power plays as well, but neither team managed to put a lot of pressure on the penalty killers.
The third period featured the same kind of hockey. Jagr and Isbister had a rare two-on-one with six minutes to go in the game. Jagr drew attention to him before nicely passing it back to Nylander who put the puck in the net - but the goal did not count as Isbister was called for goalie interference! The Rangers did, however, get the extremely important 1-0 goal as Straka wristed a shot on goal that seemed harmless, but hit the back of the net!! With a pulled goalie, the Sabres pressured the Rangers in the final seconds of the game and scored the 1-1 goal with just 8 seconds to go in the game. The game went to overtime where Afinogenov scored with Betts in the penalty box. The Rangers will play the Sabres on Sunday for the Game Six.
2nd May 2007
Having won a game, the Rangers looked confident and had a good first period of Game Four, even if the period ended without goals.
The second period had a good start to it, as Jagr redirected a pass into the net for a power play goal at 0:45! Jaromir, who not only is dominating the puck possession, continues to look very strong fore checking and hunting for the puck!
In the third period the Rangers played a more defensive game, but the other big shooter for the Rangers, Shanahan had the 2-0 goal on a power play, as he found himself alone in front of the goalie! That was, however, not an insurance goal, as the Sabres got back to score on a short range shot themselves on the next shift!
The Blueshirts were able to keep the Sabres back for most of the period, but in the last 15 seconds of the game, Lundqvist left the net for awhile to help clear a puck and the Sabres so nearly had a goal. While the puck might likely have been in, it could not be confirmed on the video review! With a bit of luck, the Rangers tied the series!!
29th April 2007
The Sabres made their visit to MSG and were put under a lot of pressure in the first period by the Rangers. Jagr had four shots on goal but the period ended scorless.
Jagr came out flying in the second period and skated right through the defense on his first shift, looking faster than he ever has. He did not score, but took a shot on his next chance and picked up his own rebound to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead! Jagr looked like a man with a mission as he celebrated the goal.
A couple of minutes later, Jagr made a good pass to Nylander from the boards who got it to Rachunek, who deflected it into the net. The goal was, however, strangely disallowed!
The referees continued their strange calls, as Jagr was penalized his third time for hooking as a Sabres player fell on his stick! On a later shift Prucha was hooked hard and fell on the ice, without a penalty called. The crowd at MSG chanted to show their disgust towards the refs.
The Rangers kept killing penalties in the third period and finally gave up a goal, as Briere's slapshot found its way past Lundqvist, who was having an excellent game. Jagr had a great chance in the third period to retake the lead as he deflected a puck towards an open net, but the puck went just wide.
The game went to overtime where the Rangers killed a penalty and finally had a power play of their own, as Jagr was interfered. As the power play was about to end, the Sabres took another penalty, as they cleared the puck over the glass.
One overtime was not enough, as the game went to 2nd overtime. The Rangers never gave up, worked hard and eventually, Rozsival scored the game-winner on a slapshot!!! Jagr, who had ten shots on goal and looked like an animal all game long, screened Miller in the Sabres goal!
28th April 2007
The Blueshirts had to battle another game in Buffalo before heading to New York. This time around, the Rangers had most of the pressure in the first period and did get the all-important first goal of the game, as Straka scored on a slapshot, assisted by Rozsival and Jagr. The Sabres came back right away on another power play with a goal from Campbell.
The second period didn't feature much in the way of scoring. The Rangers killed a double minor penalty in good fashion and controlled most of the game on even strentgth. Jagr drew a penalty late in the third period and was hip checked while moving the puck and went to the lockerroom. Jagr did have some revenge, however, as Mara scored on that same power play!
Jagr was back in the third period but the Rangers got the worst of starts as the Sabres scored on a slapshot deflection, only their 10th shot on goal. The Sabres got another one halfway through the period, as Vanek scored for Buffalo. The Rangers were pressing the last few minutes. Jagr was stoned by Miller on a backhand redirection with two minutes to go in the period. Playing with six players against four, the Rangers still could not score another one, and lost Game Two 3-2.
26th April 2007
After a week of rest, the Rangers were back in uniform, visiting Buffalo to face off against the President Trophy winners.
Jagr had a good opportunity on the first shift of the game, but it was the Sabres who took over more and more as the period went along. Lundqvist stepped up and the period ended scoreless.
The Rangers continued killing penalties in the second period. Halfway through the game, the Blueshirts got their first power play of the game. Jagr made a great move to take the puck into the offensive zone and set up Hossa in front of the net, but Miller made a good save.
The Sabres finally got a goal as Vanek scored on another Rangers penalty with less than 6 minutes to go in the period. Buffalo scored another goal with a few minutes to go on an offensive rush. Vanek had his second goal of the night as Buffalo scored another unanswered goal with one and a half minute to go in the second period.
The Rangers first goal of the game came midway through the third period, as the first line got some unusual puck possession and Hossa onetimed in a Nylander pass. The Sabres, who looked strong both offensively and defensively, scored the 4-1 goal just three minutes later. Shanahan had a goal in the last minute of the game, scoring with a wristshot on an open net. Buffalo scored an empty-netter to make the final score 5-2.
19th April 2007
The Thrashers needed a win in Game Four to stay alive and came out battling hard at MSG.
The Hossa, Nylander and Jagr line came out having some good puck possession again in the first period, even if the Thrashers played a much better defensive game, keeping them from getting too much room. It was, however, the Thrashers who got the first goal with Tkachuk scoring at 6:38 on a Kovalchuk pass. The Rangers tied things up immediately with a power play goal from Roszival.
The second period looked more like a normal playoff game than the open-ice hockey of Game Three. It did feature two goals, though, as De Vries gave the Thrashers a lead 12 minutes into the period and Shanahan beat Hedberg on a two-on-one with less than two minutes to go in the period!
The third period started with a huge slapshot from Cullen that was reviewed and ruled to be in! Jagr had plenty of good shots and passes in the game and looked strong in most aspects. Jaromir finally got something to show for it as he intercepted a puck with one and a half minute to go to secure the 4-0 series sweep!!! The Rangers became the first team to make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs!
18th April 2007
Playing in front of the home crowd, the Rangers came out dominating the first period. The Hossa, Nylander and Jagr line was absolutely unstoppable, creating plays, holding onto the puck and generally frustrating the Thrashers! The line produced three first-period goals, all three assisted by Jagr and two of the goals scored by Nylander. Jaromir, who stated he would not mind being double shifted in Game Three and Game Four, looked to be on fire in the game. Jagr's first assist came after he made a quick move on the right boards and skated into the offensive zone, passing the puck nicely to Nylander who got the crowd on their feet! The other two goals, Jagr had second assists on, after having done some great work forechecking around the boards.
The Blueshirts found themselves killing penalties in the second period, but that didn't keep Callahan from scoring his first career playoff goal, finishing a two-on-one with a wristshot with 13:33 remaining.
Callahan had his second goal late in the period as he deflected in a power play shot! Jagr moved around a defenseman on an offensive rush late in the period but 5-0 was a humiliating score enough.
The third period features plenty of penalties and some rough checks and plays. Shanahan had the 6-0 goal midway through the period on a deflected slapshot.
Nylander made it 7-0 with a couple of minutes left to score a hat-trick!! Jagr had an assist on the goal, which was scored on the power play, his fourth assist of the night!
15th April 2007
The Rangers had a lucky goal scored by Avery to get a 1-0 lead in the game against the Thrashers.
Atlanta came out playing some good hockey in the second period but the period ended scoreless. They were able to tie the game early in the third period, after Kovalchuk's one-timer found the back of the net. Jagr, who had plenty of shots on goal, was not able to put anything on the board. He skated in around the defense and was alone with the goalie in the third period, but a collision led to a penalty on Marcel Hossa and the whistle was blown.
Shanahan stepped up instead, and scored the game-winner on a Avery pass with just a few minutes to go in the game!
Shanahan cross-checked an Atlanta player into the boards as the Thrashers played without a goalie, but the Rangers were able to kill the remaining minute and win Game Two as well!!
13th April 2007
The Blueshirts finally got to start their playoff run and they did so in good fashion, beating the Thrashers 4-3 on the road to win Game One!
Jagr had the first goal of the regular season and decided to score the first goal of the playoffs as well, as he one-timed in a Nylander pass from inside the right circle in the first period! Jagr, who has been looking stronger and stronger for every week, is really getting his shooting ability back, just at the right moment.
Roszival had a slapshot on the power play, assisted by Straka and Jagr thre minutes later, in the same first period. Nylander and Hossa, who was back after losing several weeks to injury, had goals in the second period and Lundqvist was able to keep the Thrashers from scoring during a third-period offensive rally.
8th April 2007
The Penguins beat the Rangers 2-1 after two power play goals in the second period, finishing the regular season for both teams. Prucha had the lone Rangers goal of the game.
The Lightning lost their game in overtime, which means the Blueshirts finishes 6th in the standings and will face the Thrashers in the first round of the playoffs! Having struggled against the Devils for his last few playoff apperances, Jagr will finally get a new, less trapping, opponent to figure out.
Summary of Jagr's regular season 2006-2007
Jagr entered the season with a sore shoulder that should have given time to heal for several more weeks. Jaromir still had a good start of the season, picking up plenty of assists and leading the league in points until Sidney Crosby took over on 13th December.
Jagr's inability to work out during the off-season was another thing that bugged him, and was apparently slowing him down for the first three fourths of the season. Jagr suffered from minor hip flexor problems too, but managed to play it through and not miss a single game.
The injuries did not stop Jagr from scoring his 600th goal on 19th November and his 1500th point on 10th February. Jagr helped the Rangers to 6th position in the Eastern Conference, as he had a strong last four weeks of the season, despite not racking up a great numbers of points during the stretch.
Jagr finished the season with 30 goals and claimed the record for consecutive 30-goal seasons, despite having a shooting percentage that, for the first time in his career, dropped below 10. Jagr picked up 66 assists as well to give him 96 points and a top 10 position in the scoring lead.
Jaromir's season could have ended in an injury-riddled misery but he made the best of the bad conditions and was able to help the Rangers to their second consecutive playoff appearance and post good offensive and defensive individual numbers.
6th April 2007
The Rangers secured their place in the playoffs after beating the Canadiens 3-1! After an amazing late-season surge, the Rangers have done what so many doubted a couple of months ago.
Prucha had the first goal of the game last night, scoring on an early slapshot.
Jagr is looking the best he has all season, scoring the game-winner on a quick one-timer in the second period and helping Malik to a late second period goal as well.
It was Jagr's 30th goal, giving him a record high, 15 consecutive seasons with 30 goals!! Congratulations!
3rd April 2007
There's a video clip up of the goal Jagr scored against the Flyers. Check the third section!
2nd April 2007
The Eastern Conference playoff race has been one of the toughest ones in a long time. The Maple Leafs and the Rangers met in one of the more important games of the battle last night.
Jagr got called for interference as a Leafs player skated into him (!). The penalty lead to a 1-0 lead for the Leafs. Avery scored to even things up a couple of minutes later as he threw a shot on net!
Nylander scored the second goal midway through the period, assisted by his linemates Isbister and Jagr, as he patiently skated in half a circle to put the goalie out of position. The Maple Leafs tied the game with three minutes to go on a deflection that got past Lundqvist.
The Rangers started the second period with two quick goals, as Callahan and Straka scored a goal each. Avery scored another goal with five minutes to go in the period to give the Rangers a comfortable lead going into the third period.
Rozsival had another Rangers goal on a power play eight minutes into the last period as Jagr got the puck to Nylander who set him up with a centering pass. Jagr then scored himself as he skated hard for a loose puck behind the net and got the puck to Isbister who gave it back for a tap in at the crease! The Rangers ended up with a 7-2 win and are looking increasingly impressive!!
25th March 2007
The game against the Islanders started with a period that featured three Rangers penalties, one Rangers power play but no goals.
In the second period, Colton Orr stepped up to score the 1-0 goal. Jagr made a great move in the period, breaking in on goal, falling and hitting the post!
Yashin put the Islanders back in the game by scoring on a power play 8 minutes into the third period. The Rangers had a five-on-three power play a few minutes later, but could not score. Jagr had plenty of one-timers on net during the man-advantage.
Jagr drew a penalty during the overtime period that followed that led to Nylander deflecting a Shanahan shot into the net!
24th March 2007
After a scoreless first period, Savard had the first goal of the game, scoring after Lundqvist tried to pass the puck up the boards. Hollweg took a major penalty in the same period and the Rangers found themselves killing a penalty for the last fourth of the period, rather than trying to find an equalizer .
The Bruins played a pretty tough trap and there wasn't a lot of room for making moves. With just 1:40 remaining in the game, however, Jagr and Nylander dug up a puck in the corner and passed it to Pock whose wristshot took the game to overtime!
The game eventually was decided on a shootout. Nylander scored on a backhand, Cullen missed his shot, but Jagr, who was called for two soft hookings earlier in the game, won the game for the Rangers, beating the five-hole of the goalie! The Rangers got away with two points and continue their winning-streak!
22nd March 2007
Brendan Shanahan made his long-awaited return to the lineup as the Flyers visited the Garden, but it was Peter Prucha who opened the scoring in the game, scoring on a one-on-one less than four minutes into the game.
Jagr, along with Nylander, put some good pressure on the Flyers and Jaromir scored the 2-0 goal early in the second period as he cut to the low circle on a power play, wristing a shot on goal that was deflceted in off a Flyers player! Avery scored on another wristshot, several minute later to give the Rangers a comfortable 3-0 lead! Jagr had a breakaway late in the second period, but he could not score, making a move to his forehand.
Ortmeyer and Avery had a third-period goal each to give the Rangers an impressive 5-0 win!
20th March 2007
The Blueshirts got a real challenge in beating the red hot Penguins last night as the teams faced off for the last time before the season finale in April.
The first period featured pressure from both teams. Jagr looked strong all the way from the start and had a nice one-on-one move midway through the period.
After a scoreless first period Jagr looked even stronger in the second period, having some great chemistry with the Nylander but as so often before, the goals did not come for the Rangers.
It was first early in the third period that the Rangers got a puck past Thibault, as Betts redirected a shot into the net!
The Rangers kept on dominating, but it was the Pens who got the next goal, scored with less than 6 minutes left in the game.
With less than 30 seconds left it happened. Jagr, who had been in his own league all game long, skated down the right wing and threw a puck on net from behind the net that ended up the game-winner!! It was Jagr's 25th goal of the season and likely one of the more important ones as well!
18th March 2007
The Bruins visited MSG last night for a game the Rangers definitely expected to pick up the full two points in.
Roszival scored the first goal of the game, the lone first period goal, assisted by Nylander and Jagr on the power play. Straka, who has been playing despite a shoulder injury, left the game with a leg injury late in the period.
Avery gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead early in the second period as he picked up a Cullen rebound. Jagr had the second assist, a pretty easily earned point. On the next Rangers power play however, Jagr had a more hard earned point, as he skated in with speed on the right wing, cut in around the defense, lost the puck but had Prucha score on the loose puck! On the next shift, Ryan Callahan scored his first NHL goal for the Blueshirts, as the team finally seemed to have some odd luck.
Midway through the period, Cullen had the 5-0 goal, scoring on well aimed wristshot. On the next power play he did the same thing to give the Rangers a 6-0 lead! Late in the period Callahan scored another goal, set up by Avery, who had his fourth point of the night to help the Rangers finish an amazing period!
The third period was scoreless, but the Rangers had, nevertheless, a very relaxing and impressive win!
Jagr, obviously, didn't log a lot of ice time. He finished with three assists and a couple of shots on goal.
17th March 2007
The Blueshirts were beaten by the Thrashers in overtime last night.
The lone Rangers goal was scored by Avery. Jagr was involved in the play but did not pick up an assist. Jagr's best chance came in the second period as he almost scored alone against the Atlanta goalie. Jagr had plenty of good passes in the game but Hedberg in the Atlanta goal stepped up and saved his team.
A hopefully somewhat easier game tonight as the team faces off against the Bruins.
14th March 2007
The Rangers winning-streak finally came to an end as they were beaten by the always mighty, Senators.
The Blueshirts managed to take a 2-0 lead in the game in the first period, but could not keep Ottawa from coming back and winning the game 3-2.
Jagr, who except for the weak shoulder is battling leg and hip problems, had four shots on goal, was a +/- 2 and had assists on the goals, scored by Nylander.
11th March 2007
The Blueshirts faced the Hurricanes in an all-important game and came out on top after beating them in a shootout!
The game featured, as so often as of late, little in the way of scoring. Malik had the Rangers lone goal, assisted by Jagr. Jaromir had plenty of good set ups in the game and nearly scored himself as he battled his way through the defense, but he just could not get control of the puck to put it in the net.
Jagr did have his revenge, as he scored in the third round of the shootout for the second Rangers goal, helping the Rangers to the win along with Cullen! Jagr scored on a move he likes to use on shootouts - making a quick move to the right with the puck and aiming it to the left side of the net!
11th March 2007
The Penguins defeated the Rangers 3-2 in overtime yesterday afternoon.
Jagr had several shots on goal but had to leave the game after the second period. He had no points, as Rachunek and Cullen scored the two Blueshirt goals. Jaromir is questionable for the game today.
9th March 2007
The Rangers were hosted by the Islanders, hoping to beat their rivals in two consecutive games.
Jagr started on a line with Nylander and Avery, with Hossa out several weeks with an injury. The Islanders played tight defense this time around and the first period didn't feature a lot of action.
The Islanders got the first goal of the game, knocking in a puck at 3:33 of the second period. Mara had the equalizer with 8 minutes to go in the period on a power play.
The third period didn't feature hockey any more open than the one of the first two period until Jagr had a shot hit the post and Chris Simon slashed Hollweg to the face for a major penalty on the next shift. Prucha scored on the five-minute power play that followed, assisted by Nylander and Jagr! The Islanders had a very arguable goal disallowed with 20 seconds to go in the game as the Rangers finally had things go their way!
6th March 2007
The Islanders visited MSG and the first period was dominated by Jagr and the Rangers. It was, however, the Islanders that had the only goal of the period, scored on a deflection.
The Islanders stepped up their game in the second period, but it was still the Rangers who had all the quality shots on goal with Dipietro simply not giving anything away.
The Rangers never gave up, but came out flying as if the world was at stake in the third period after Prucha had tied the game on the first shift of the period!! The game went to overtime where the same crazy open ice hockey continued, and the game had to be decided on a shootout. Cullen had the only goal as Lundqvist saved all Islanders' shots. Jagr took the Rangers last shot, making a move to his left, but having his shot saved. Jagr had no points but seven shots on goal of the 57 (!!!) shots produced by the Rangers!
4th March 2007
The Rangers did just what they've been victims of far too many times, coming back from being two goals down to win the game, against the Blues yesterday!
The Rangers suffered two frustrating periods to begin the game. Avery missed a breakaway, Nylander shot wide of an open net and a shot hit both posts and deflected out. The Blues, consequently, got on top 2-0, but Rachunek and Avery had a goal each in the third period to tie the game.
Jagr, who didn't register any points but created quite a few opportunities, was in the shootout lineup again and kept the Rangers alive by scoring on a beautiful backhand move! Nylander scored on his shot and Hossa had the last shootout goal to give the Blueshirts the extra point!
2nd March 2007
Jagr had a couple of great chances against the Penguins, but it wasn't before 17:36 into the second period that Jaromir had his luck change as his shot rebounded and got deflected in off a skate. On the next shift Nylander scored the 2-0 goal on a counter attack. Jaromir was on the ice but did not pick up an assist on that goal.
The third period started terribly as Jordan Staal scored a shorthanded goal on the first power play and the Penguins getting another shorthanded goal on the next Rangers power play! Betts scpred on a rebound, however, on the same power play, to retake the lead.
The Rangers got an unfortunate goal against with 6 minutes left in the game as the Penguins forcheck led to a Gonchar goal. The game went to overtime and eventually to a shootout.
Jagr took the Rangers second shot, made a little move and had his shot bounce off Fleury and just barely out. Nylander and Prucha failed to get a shot on goal on their opportunities while Crosby scored on the Penguins' third shot to take a possibly important point from the Rangers.

The Blueshirts face off against the Penguins tomorrow hoping to gain more ground in the race for a playoff spot.
25th February 2007
After two frustrating games against the Devils, the Rangers hosted the Bluejackets, hoping for a somewhat easier opponent.
Jagr started on a line with Avery and Straka and looked very energetic. Jagr set Avery up for a shot on his first shift, but the shot hit the upper side of the crossbar. Blair Betts gave the Rangers an early lead instead, scoring on a wraparound 2:46 into the game.
Jagr gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead a couple of minutes later as he blasted in a powerplay onetimer, 05/06-style!
The Bluejackets scored a typical late first-period goal as Eriksson threw a shot on net that bounced in.
Columbus got its second goal halfway through the game, as they scored shorthanded. Amazing enough for the Bluejackets, they scored another similiar goal on the Rangers next power play to get a 3-2 lead!
Jagr had his normal luck in the third period as he had a power play wrist shot hit the crossbar. Norrena stept up in the third period, however, and with the Bluejackets cloughing the neutral zone the Rangers were handed a very painful 3-2 loss.
23rd February 2007
New York got a point in their second meeting with the Devils after losing in the shootout.
The Rangers goals were scored by Prucha and Hossa. The Prucha goal came after Jagr had cut in on net. Jagr was, as usually, not in the shootout lineup.

Jagr was checked hard to the head midway through the period by Todd Fedorouk. Federuk recieved just a minor penalty for the hit, his second penalty of the period.
The Rangers had all the shots, but it was the Flyers who scored the first goal with five minutes to go in the period. Hossa deflected a puck in a couple of minutes later to tie the game. Jagr did not pick up an assist on the goal. Umberger scored on a shorthanded breakaway late in the period as the Rangers could not enter the offensive zone.
The Rangers seemed to have lost some of its timing in the second period. Jagr's best chance was a wrist shot midway through the period. Gagne scored the lone goal of the period as he cut in to the net on a rush.
The Flyers got a third-period goal before Jagr beautifully slid a puck in fron the net after having skaten into the offensive zone on a power play. Jagr was checked hard into the boards after the pass, but no penalty was called! On the next shift Shanahan collided hard with a Flyers player and did not get up. After some lengthy treatment he was taken out of the game on a stretcher. Jagr kept creating plays but did not have any luck whatosever. The Flyers eventually won 5-3 after Cullen had scored one late in the period.
16th February 2007
The Rangers visited Carolina and Jagr did not have any early birthday luck as his shot hit the left post and the right post and bounced out! As so often before, the Rangers gave up a goal on the next shift.

11th February 2007
The Blueshirts visited Washington and were hoping to continue the great momentum from last night. The Rangers did indeed put good pressure on Kölzig in the first period but he was not nearly as shakey as Holmqvist last night. He did give up a goal at 11:18, however, as Jagr one-timed a shot on the powerplay that produced a rebound for Rozsival to score on. Ovechkin tallied one to tie the game before the period was over.
Jagr came about as close to scoring as you can without actually doing it on the first shift of the second period, as his shot bounced down from the crossbar and then was kicked away by a Capitals player! Jagr looked hot and had a couple of good chances on the following shifts as well, but did not score.
Hossa, on the other hand, scored midway through the period on a powerplay, off a Shanahan rebound.
The third period featured an early power play to the Capitals and a goal from Chris Clark. The Rangers answered back immediately with a power play goal of their own. Jagr picked up his second assist of the game. It was Jagr's 1500th career point!!!
On the next shift Jagr had his third assist as he skated around the net and set Straka up for a onetimer!
Jagr had a slashing penalty with five minutes to go in the game. It was rather a slight tap than a slashing, and the referee had not called a single penalty against the Capitals for constantly using their hands and their sticks to stop Jagr. Jaromir had a breakaway, coming out of the box but the play was whistled as an offside.
Straka had an empty-netter with half a minute to go to make the final result 5-2.
10th February 2007
Tom Renney decided it was time to try something completely different and rearranged his lines for last night's game against the Lightning. Jagr started on a line with Straka and Hossa while Nylander found himself on a line with Shanahan.
The first goal of the game was scored by Colton Orr, his first NHL goal as he backhanded a shot five minutes into the game.
The Rangers got a two-goal-lead at 11:32 as Hossa wristed in a shot, assisted by Straka and Roszival.
Jagr got his first point midway through the second period as he picked up a bad pass and skated in alone with Hollweg. Jagr faked a shot and set Hollweg up nicely with a backhand pass for Hollweg's first goal/point of the season!
The Rangers made it 4-0 with five and a half minute to go in the period as Avery put the second line on the board with a good wristshot!
Jagr scored on himself early in the third period as he skated past the blueline wristed a shot that barely made it over the goal line! The goal made it 5-0 which ended up the final result.
To summarize, the rearranged lines worked better than anybody could ever imagine with production from all Rangers lines. Lundqvist had a solid game in goal as well, and gave the Rangers the opportunity to get those all important first goals.
7th February 2007
Sean Avery, who was acquired for Jason Ward and prospects, played his first game as a Ranger, and had an impact against the Devils, as he picked up an assist on a 1-1 goal scored by Rachunek.
Jagr had a pretty good game and could not be controlled as easily as against the Redwings. He ended with six shots on goal, and most notably, the game-tying goal in the third period, as he banked in a shot off Brodeur. It was Jagr's 20th goal, 611th career tally, and he's now the 13th leading scorer all-time!
The game ended with a Devils win in the shootout. Jaromir, who was questionable for the game after having strained his hip flexor against Detroit, did not take a shot.
6th February 2007
Good luck has not exactly been common sight for the Rangers, but that was just what they got, as Shanahan scored on wristshot a few minutes into the game and Nylander picked up a strange bounce to add the 2-0 goal on the next shift!
Lundqvist let one in at 7:24 into the game as Datsyuk delfected in a Zetterberg shot. At 14:24 Hasek let in another shot, as Nylander set up Hossa for a power play shot.
The second period was not especially exciting. The Redwings picked up their defensive game and did not give Jagr and the Rangers any room whatsoever.
The Redwings got their share of luck early in the third period, Jiru Hudler scoring after a strange move by Lundqvist.
Lang scored the 3-3 goal midway through the period. Detroit got energized and Zetterberg stole a puck awhile later to give them the lead. Jagr was very well contained in the game by the Redwings, but had his best play late in the game as he skated around the defense and threw a pass in front of the net, with Hasek making the save. It doesn't get a lot more painful than this!
1st February 2007
The Blueshirts hosted the Maple Leafs, looking to continue their winning-streak. The first period was fast paced but without goals.
Jagr and finally got a point at 12:07 in the second period as he one-timed a shot that was deflected in by Shanahan. It was the first time in a long time Jagr was positioned at the point, and it immediately made a difference. Like so often before, the Leafs tied things up a couple of shifts later.
The Rangers found themselves playing quite a bit of defense early in the third peirod and seven minutes in Sundin scored on a breakaway to give the Maple Leafs that all important lead. The lead ended up being enough, as the Rangers could not tie the game, despite putting a lot of pressure on the Toronto goalie.
Jagr logged long shifts, playing both with Nylander and Straka and with the third line at times. Jaromir worked very hard in the game, had a few good shots and several good passes.
30th January 2007
The Rangers visited Boston last night and beat the Bruins with a big 6-1 win!
Shanahan's goal scoring luck did not change in the first period as the Rangers were awarded a power play and Shanahan had a couple of good shots on net.
Jagr was close to scoring in the first period as well, as he attempted a wraparound.
The Rangers got some luck a little while later, however, as Prucha threw one to the net that was deflected in, but the Bruins got back to tie the game a minute and a half later on the power play.
Prucha was the man behind the 2-1 goal too, as he set up Roszival late in the period.
Seven minutes into the second period Prucha found the net again, as he got a pass from Cullen from behind the net! A couple of minutes later Cullen scored a shorthanded goal after Ortmeyer won a hustle for the puck.
Shanahan scored on a penalty shot seven minutes into the third period, moving the puck to his backhand and putting it in nicely, while Nylander scored the 6-1 goal on the next shift! Jagr was unlucky again and did not get an assist on the goal. He nearly scored a second later, but the shot was gloved by Bruins backup goalie Toivonen. Jagr did not log a lot of ice time for the rest of the game, and was surprisingly held without a point.
27th January 2007
Jagr spent the All-Star break working out, trying to get his shoulder back in shape.
Visiting Philadelphia, Jaromir had a good first game back, working hard defensively and having plenty of shots and a goal to make up for the offense. The Rangers won the game after Jagr deflected a shot in early in the second period and Jason Krog battled one in a few minutes into the third period.
Jagr had five shots on goal, including one in the crossbar and one that hit the post! The Rangers had plenty of power plays in the first period but Esche and a bit of bad luck made this one a close one.
20th January 2007
Madison Garden and the Blueshirts hosted the Thrashers for their last game before the All-Star break.
The first period was slow, but had a goal for each team. Kovalchuk had a shot that deflected in five minutes into the first period and Jagr got things going for the Rangers a couple of minutes later as he shot the puck top corner from a narrow angle.
Jagr kept playing with a high pace in the second period but did not get any more goals in a period that featured several Atlanta power plays. Marian Hossa got a penalty shot late in the period but Lundqvist was usual great self on the shot.
Atlanta got another puck deflected into the net early in the third period to get the lead. Even if the Rangers had a few power plays, they were not able to tie the game.
Marian Hossa did get a goal, his 30th of the season, as he scored an empty-netter with half a minute to go.
The game recap for the Devils game was missed. The Rangers took a 1-0 loss as the Devils had one of their usual games with good goaltending and good defense.
13rd January 2007
The Rangers faced the Bruins and the first period did not feature a lot of action, but each team had a goal each. The Rangers goal was scored by Nylander (Hossa and Malik picking up assists).
Nylander was back playing with Straka and Jagr in the second period and the line did indeed get the scoring going, as Jagr backhanded the puck to the net from behind the net and the puck knocked in. After a slow first period, the Rangers created lots of shot and dominated the second period but could not turn the game away.
The third period was back to the not-so-much-happening hockey. With three minutes to go the Rangers did get some insurance as Ortmeyer scored on a penalty shot awarded shorthanded.
Jagr was, surprisingly, not on the Eastern Conference All-Star team, likely have the Rangers opted him out so as he'll be able to work on regaining some shoulder strength during the break. And that's a good thing!
12th January 2007
The Blueshirts fell 6-4, hosting the Senators at MSG last night.
The Rangers created plenty of shots but were not very sharp at actually scoring or playing good defense. The team was down 5-0 a minute into the third period and started a comeback, but it was not enough as Heatley scored an empty-netter at 19:26.
Jagr, who had seven shots on goal, had just one assist, with Prucha knocking in one of is rebounds for the 5-1 goal.
Ward, Hossa and Betts were the other Rangers goal scorers.
8th January 2007
Jagr was back playing, after what was later described as a hip flexor injury, and had a good first period. Jagr assisted on Straka's power play goal 7 minutes into the game and scored himself midway through the period. Even with a strained hip flexor and a weak shoulder, Jagr was looking good offensively as he created a couple of chances in the second period as well, but the period ended without any Rangers goals.
In the third period, the Rangers got back into the game, however, as the first line had drawn a penalty late in the second period. Shanahan ended his goal scoring drought as Jagr set him up with a great pass for a power play one-timer!
Viktor Kozlov gave the Islanders the lead a couple of minutes later as he scored the 4-3 goal and Sillinger had his second of the evening the next shift to score the 5-3, final score, goal. Shanahan had a shot in the post on a power play late in the game, but the Rangers were not lucky with the bounces in this game.
8th January 2007
Jagr is expected to play tomorrow against the Islanders.
Jaromir was also asked by the New York post about the condition of his shoulder, and it seems it's nowhere near what it should be yet.
Jaromir said he had expected the shoulder to be stronger this far into the season than it is, and that he'd need to take games off in order to get his strength and movement back.
7th January 2007 - Afternoon
There are two new video clips on the site. Check the "video clips 2" section. The files were simple recorded from a TV-screen, therefore the quality is anything what it should be.
Enjoy!
The Jagr injury is still described as a "slight groin pull". Jagr has not commented on the injury himself.
7th January 2007
The Rangers had a strong first period. Matt Cullen took advantage of an opening in the Canadiens defense midway through the period, and skated in and scored on a breakaway.
The Rangers continued looking pretty strong in the second period. Straka scored on a blast from the point at 6:36. Jagr was not one of the two last passers.
The team continued to look pretty good on even strength, but the Canadiens got back into the game with two power play goals. Rozsival got the Rangers back in the lead in the third period.
Jagr started to miss shifts in the second period and was gone for the third period! Jagr was said to be out with a groin tweak.
It was several years ago since Jagr battled groin problems last time. Hopefully this one is not going to turn into something serious! More information will follow as we learn more. At best, Jagr will be back next game. At worst, he'll be gone for a several games.
5th January 2007
Straka had a hat-trick as the Rangers took their third straight win, beating the Flyers 3-2.
Straka's first goal came after a nice set up by Nylander. Shanahan took a long shift and Jagr did not record an assist on the goal. Jagr got an assist on Straka's second goal, but missed out on any points on the third goal, as Straka had a pretty clear breakaway and scored himself.
3rd January 2007
The Rangers took their second victory as they outmaneuvered the red hot Devils with a shootout victory!
Jagr had an assist in the game, as he deflected a shot off his leg to Prucha in the third period. Prior to that, Nylander had a second period power play goal on a wrist shot and Madden the first goal of the game in the first period.
Langenbrunner forced the 2-2 goal late in the third period to take the game to overtime. With 55 seconds to go in the OT-period, Jagr carried the puck past the blueline and made a great pass to Straka, who was stoned by Brodeur.
Marcel Hossa gave the Rangers the extra point in the 8th round of the shootout as he made a little deke to the left and shot the puck high.
Jagr missed his shot, as he attempted to find a hole with a wrist shot.
31st December 2006
The Capitals visited New York and the Rangers finally had a good game to defeat their opponents 4-1.
Jagr was on the ice for two of the Rangers goals, and had an assist on the Kasparaitis goal in the second period, setting him up with a centering pass.
Jagr was pushed around by Brashear all game long, and Shanahan decided enough was enough and stepped up to challenge Brashear to a fight in the third period!
Prucha had two goals in the game, his 7th and 8th goal of the season.
30th December 2006
After looking very weak in the first period, the Rangers got together and played some decent hockey in the second and third period. Jagr had five shots on goal, including a wrist shot on a two-on-one after a good takeaway. But the only goal of the game was scored by Alfredsson, 32 seconds into the first period.
27th December 2006
Playing the Islanders, the Rangers were looking to end their losing-streak, but did the opposite, losing 2-0, their sixth straight loss.
Jagr had five shots on goal, but DiPietro was able to stop everything the Rangers threw at him. The Islanders had 38 shots on Lundqvist.
24th December 2006
The Blueshirts visited Tampa and were looking to grab a win, but fell 4-3 after another third period break down.
Lundqvist's return did not save the Rangers and Jagr, who had two shots on goal, was shut down as the Rangers suffered their fifth consecutive loss!
!Merry Christmas!
22nd December 2006
The Rangers were still without Lundqvist, Malik and Nylander as the team took another loss, defeated 3-2 by the Panthers.
The Panthers took 18 penalty minutes, more than twice the amount the Rangers did, but with just one power play goal a team.
Jagr extended his scoring-streak to four games by setting up Ward for the 2-0 goal in the second period. The Rangers fell after three unanswered Panthers goals in the third period.
20th December 2006
The Rangers were looking to get back on a winning-streak, facing the Islanders on home ice. There was a ceremony for Jagr and Shanahan scoring their 600th goals before the game, and it was also Jagr and Shanahan who made up the home team scoring in the game.
Kevin Weekes started the game, with Lundqvist out with the flu. He let in four goals on 26 shots, half of the goals after good passing plays by the Islanders, two on good but more takable shots. Two of those goals were scored on power plays, the Rangers yet again spending too much time in penalty box in the second period.
Shanahan had a power play goal in the first period, finishing a nice passing play by the Rangers first power play formation. Jagr came close to giving the Rangers an extra point or two, by scoring the 4-2 goal and the 4-3 goal, on a rebound and on a loose puck. Jagr had six points and three points, finally getting some goal scoring production. He had a one-timer in the last second of the game, but it was stopped by DiPietro, who had 30 saves.
- due to inconveniences, the last few game recaps were unable to be posted -
11th December 2006
Jagr came out looking great against the Panthers last night, making a several good moves, one of them drawing a penalty. On the power play that followed, Jagr made a pass to Rozsival, who made no mistake as he had all the time in the world to put the puck in the net!
The second period was more about good goaltending than scoring. Jagr could have easily have had a couple of points, but the period was scoreless. Belfour had a great save on Shanahan after Jagr set him and Nylander up for a two-on-one with a backhand pass.
Nylander was more eager to shoot the puck in the third period, as Rozsival brought the puck up the ice and gave it to Straka, who passed to Nylander for a quick one-timer goal.
The Panthers never had a lot of possession in the game, but scored on a good shot midway through the period.
Weekes got the chance to start in the Rangers goal and had a great game, giving Renney two hot goalies to choose from on Tuesday.
Surprisngly, Jagr finished the game with just one assist.
9th December 2006
The Rangers were looking to continue winning as they visited Ottawa to play the Senators.
Like usually for the Rangers, it took some time to get the scoring going. But with three minutes to go in the first period, Jaromir made a perfect pass to Straka on a five-on-three who redirected the puck into the net.
Jagr scored himself 6 minutes into the second period, as he made his classic move from the right wing towards the left circle and released a tricky wrist shot!
Spezza redirected a power play goal at 15:46 to get the Senators within one goal. Jagr had a good opportunity late in the period, attempting a one-timer at a partially open net, but the pass did not quite end up where it should.
Jagr put some good pressure on the Senators in the third period as well. Almost scoring as he made a move around a Senators player, took his own rebound and hit the post with a backhander. Jagr had another deke the shift later, getting a decent shot on net.
Shanahan got an empty-netter with half a minute to go, to make the final sore 3-1. Lundqvist had a great game, making 34 saves for the Blueshirts!
8th December 2006
After a few days of rest, the Rangers hosted the Penguins at MSG last night.
Kasparaitis was finally back in the lineup, but had only 8:50 minutes of game time.
After getting down 2-0 after the two first periods, the Rangers struck back with a shorthanded goal at 8:43 by Betts and a power play blast from Shanahan two minutes later. Jagr set Shanahan up for the goal, dropping a backhand pass after bringing the puck into the offensive zone.
The game went to overtime where Shanahan scored the lone goal with simple wrist shot. Jagr did, just like last shootout, not take a shot.
4th December 2006
The Rangers got a nightmare start in the first period. Lundqvist did not have a good game and the Islanders were able to restrict the Rangers effectively. Di Pietro was, however, strong in the Islanders net, and beginning the second period, the team was down 4-0!
Weekes stepped in instead of Lundqvist and looked pretty strong. Shanahan gave the Rangers some decency back, by scoring on a shorthanded two-on-one.
The Jagr line looked unstoppable a shift some minutes later, with Jaromir having several great shots and passes. Jagr fought for the puck along the boards and released a wristshot that slipped through for the 4-2 goal. Shanahan made it 4-3 on the next shift, throwing a shot at the net! The Islanders didn't want to lose too much ground, knocking in a puck a minute later.
7 minutes into the third period, Shanahan, who else, stepped up to score the 5-4 goal! Viktor Kozlov wanted a hat-trick as well, scoring the 6-4 goal at 13:52 on one of the limited amount of chances the Islanders had in the game. With just two minutes to go, Kozlov had another goal to score the 7-4, final score, goal!
3rd December 2006
Jagr had two assists as the Rangers lost to the Sabres in their second and last meeting of the season. The Rangers outshot Buffalo 43-17, including 7 shots from Jaromir. The game went to overtime and to a shootout. Jagr did not take a shot, but all Rangers shooters failed, losing 1-0 after a successful shot by Briere.
29th November 2006
Atlanta visited the Garden to play the Rangers last night and ended up winning 5-4 in overtime.
Jagr had a good chance midway through the first period as he stole the puck and shot the puck on a two-on-one. The next shift Straka found himself alone with the goalie, after Nylander and Jagr had set him up nicely, but he was slashed and did not get a very good shot off.
The Thrashers played good defense and didn't give the Rangers a lot of room, something Adam Hall wanted to change as he scored the 1-0 goal late in the period.
The Thrashers struck back early in the second period as their fourth line got a deflected puck past Lundqvist. Hall wasn't going to let that go on for too long, as he redirected a puck in his net for his second goal of the season five minutes later! After another couple of minutes Straka used his speed to get around the Atlanta defense and deke the goalie for the 3-1 goal!
Late in the second period, Marian Hossa made a nice move and scored on a backhander. Jagr had a breakaway moments later, but as usually, he was not very lucky scoring, trying to beat the five-hole this time around.
The Thrashers got back into the game seven minutes in the third period after Kovalchuk had made a beautiful one-one-one move that eventually ended up in a goal scored by Slater. A little while later, Holik scored another unanswered goal on a slapshot to give the Thrashers the lead!
Late in the period the Rangers scored that very much need game-tier. The game went to overtime, and Holik scored his second goal of the game to win the game.
Jagr had a pretty tough game, not able to register a single point, even if he registered 7 shots on goal.
27th November 2006
The Rangers hosted the Sabres in a game full of penalties.
Lundqvist kept the Rangers in the game until the second period when Afinogenov's hard shot found the back of the net. Vanek had another goal a couple of minutes later, taking care of a defensive zone mistake.
Jagr set Nylander up for an almost open net in the second period, but Nylander's shot hit the pad of the goalie. Later in the period, however, Jagr made another great pass, this time from the right wing to Straka, who safely redirected the puck into the net.
A little while later, Jagr was dragged down, pre-lockout-style, the clearest penalty imaginable but unbelievably there was not a penalty called. He was maybe a bit mad on his next shift, making an great move on a one-on-one late in the second period to get around the defenseman, but did not get the puck behind the goalie.
Jagr continued to work hard in the third period, but Miller was playing well for the Sabres, and the Rangers kept taking penalties. It was Straka again, who stepped up as the saviour. The goal gave the Rangers only one point as the Sabres scored on one of the few chances they had in overtime, ending a pretty exciting, tough game.
26th November 2006
After a few days of rest, the Rangers were back in uniform yesterday against the Penguins.
The first two periods were in favour of the Penguins. The Rangers could not convert on any of their first period power plays. Instead, Evegeni Malkin took advantage of a Rangers penalty and scored the 1-0 goal midway through the game.
The Rangers came out strong in the third period. With Lundqvist leading the team with some great goaltending, Jagr found the back of the net as he picked up a deflected puck and had a pretty open net in front of him.
In overtime, the Penguins had several chances before Straka stole the puck and brought it up the ice. He dropped it off to Jagr who passed the puck to Rozsival, who found Straka for a beautiful tap-in goal!
Jagr had a good game, recording 7 shots on goal and two points. With that last assist, he passed Stan Mikita to take the lead in all-time scoring among Europeans! It was Jagr's 1468th point!
22nd November 2006
The Rangers are on a roll! The team showed another top team last night, as they took a convincing 4-0 win against Carolina.
Hossa and Shanahan had first-period goals to give the team that all important edge in the game.
Jagr had his 601st goal in the second period, scoring on a nice wrist shot after Nylander had dropped him the puck, entering the offensive zone. Jaromir also scored his 602nd goal, which made him the highest scoring European ever, by redirecting a puck into the net in the third period!!
Lundqvist was taking care of the other end, and did so perfectly. He made 34 saves to get his first shutout of the season.
20th November 2006
Jagr wasted no time on the home ice. At 1:43 into the first period, Jagr cruised to in front of the net and redirected a puck into the net for his 600th goal!!
Jagr had a couple of chances before the period was over but Holmqvist was just as solid as the other Swedish goalie on the ice.
Early in the second period, the Rangers got a power play and Nylander deflected in a the 2-0 goal. Jagr rushed around the Lightning defense moments later, but his backhand pull got stuck on the pad of the goalie. Jagr made another great move late in the period as he skated and stickhandled through the Lightning defense, nearly scoring. Jagr drew a penalty but had another odd hooking penalty called on himself as well.
The Rangers looked very strong but the Lightning almost managed a goal in the second period, putting the puck in the net, but getting the goal disallowed.
The Rangers got a power play a few minutes into the third period. Jagr made a pass to Straka who threw a shot on net that Shanahan flipped into the net. About two minutes later, Jagr brought the puck into the offensive zone, put on the breaks and threw a pass to Nylander who beautifully set Straka up for an open net, 4-0 goal!
Jagr set up Malik perfectly with a backhand pass with about ten minutes to go, but Malik was not able to finish the play. Straka nearly scored on a Jagr pass with a minute to go as well, but the shot was blocked by a player.
Jagr was flying around most of the game, getting a got a goal and two assists to show up for it. Jagr was applauded as he skated out to salute the crowd, being named the first star of the game. Definitely a pleasant game for Jaromir to get that 600th goal!
Lundqvist, who was the second star of the game, was excellent in net, but gave up a goal on a breakaway with a couple of minutes to go.
19th November 2006
A shot hit Jagr's leg in the first period. Jaromir missed a shift but was back in a couple of minutes. The Rangers found themselve on a five-on-three penalty kill late in the period and Jordan Staal got the Penguins up 1-0.
The Penguins contained the Rangers offense very well. Jagr made a great backhand pass to in front of the net late in the second period and had his best scoring opportunity the last seconds of the second period as he nearly redirected a puck at the net.
The Rangers kept taking penalties in the third period and the Pens scored on another five-on-three power play. Shanahan, as usually, gave the Rangers some hope by picking up a puck in the offensive zone and scoring on a quick shot at 10:31. The Pens came back to score the 3-1 goal a few minutes later.
Jagr saved his 600th goal for the home crowd today. :)
17th November 2006
Playing back-to-back games, the Rangers lost to the Hurricanes 2-1 on the road.
Jagr had the lone Rangers goal of the game as he snapped in a power play goal in the second period. In the first period, Jaromir had a breakaway and made a move to the left of the goalie but was unsuccessful getting the puck in.
Weekes got to start in goal and had a decent game, making 24 saves.
With the goal, Jaromir has now got 599 goals. Expect him to score that 600th back home in Pittsburgh on Saturday!
15th November 2006
The Rangers came out skating hard and looking strong against the Devils, but midway through the first period, Lundqvist let in a Langenbrunner shot from pretty long range. The Rangers got a couple of penalties in the period as well. One very questionable was handed out to Jagr with a few minutes to go in the period. Jagr came out flying after the penalty, but not for too many seconds, before he was called for another somewhat questionable penalty when his stick got stuck on a Devils player!
Jagr didn't get down by the penalties but skated hard and looked very determined, making quite a few individual moves with the puck.
Late in the second period New Jersey got a five-on-three advantge and made it 2-0.
Going into the third period with that score against the Devils is usually almost an impossible situation.
At 2:05, however, Jagr raced in on a two-on-one and tapped the puck in to give the fans something to cheer about! Just 30 seconds later he shot a one-timer that "failed" terribly, but trickled over Brodeur to tie the game!! As if that was not exciting enough, Shanahan got a great pass from Roszival, a goal that ended up the game-winner! Those were one and a half minute of legendary action!
Jaromir got another strange penalty later in the game as his stick seemed to be grabbed by a Devils player as they were battling for the puck. Again Jagr put on the rocket skates and nearly scored a hat-trick immediately after leaving the box.
This was a game to remember!
12th November 2006
The Capitals came out strong in the first period. Putting some good pressure on the Rangers defense. The Jagr line and the Shanahan line did create a few opportunities as well. It was a mistake in the defensive zone by the Rangers that led to the 1-0 goal for the home team. The Caps had several power plays during the first period alone, Lundqvist keeping the score down.
The second period started with another Capitals power play. Jagr had a shot off the post late in the period and his line looked pretty good overall, but the team could not score.
The third period was a pretty even battle, but Ovechkin scored on a wrist shot a few minutes in. Kölzig played very well and stopped many great shots in the period but Nylander spoiled his shootout by deflecting in a Shanahan shot.
Jaromir had three shots but no points as the Rangers outshot the Caps, recording 42 shots on goal, but not able to beat Kölzig.
11th November 2006
Jagr had three assists as the Rangers cruised to a 5-2 victory over the Thrashers last night. Nylander had another great game, scoring twice and picking up one assist. Lundqvist played his second consecutive game and seems to be back on track.
10th November 2006
Jagr did not register any points in the win against the Panthers. He did, however, lose several teeth as he was high sticked by a Panthers player!
6th November 2006
It was the first home game since the road trip for the Rangers, and they played a pretty strong game, facing the best team in the league, the Sabres.
Buffalo got a good start, and got the only goal of the first period.
Jagr got the Rangers back into the game as he blasted in a one-timer, just 28 seconds into the second period. Less than two minutes later, Jagr's rebound was poked in by Prucha for another power play goal. Jagr wasn't done yet, as he at 9:48 nicely brought the puck up the ice and around the net and fed Nylander perfectly for the 3-1 goal! From there on things did not go as well for the Rangers. Briere scored the 3-2 goal a few minutes later and Pominville the 3-3 goal in the third period. Weekes made some great saves in the game, but was not quite as good in some other situations.
Jagr, who played for nearly 26 minutes, had a one-on-one late in the third period but was pulled down by a Sabres' defensemen who had thrown himself onto the ice.
The game went to overtime where Briere finished things in favour of the Sabres to make the final score 4-3.
Jagr's line is still looking strong, at times very hard to contain for the Sabres.
3rd November 2006
The Rangers are back winning, beating both the Ducks and the Sharks in back-to-back games!
Jagr had two points against the Ducks, including the OT-winner on a onetimer. Jaromir came out flying against the Sharks, dominating the game at times, but was not lucky at all with the points production, finishing without a single point.
Future game recaps will be posted in time, unless for some reason I'm not able to.
31st October 2006
The Rangers got the worst of starts against the Kings. The first period was full of penalty kills, which resulted in a two goals in favor of the home team. The Rangers were badly outshot, 21-5, and gave up another goal early in the second period to get in an even bigger hole.
The team got a few power plays in the second period but could not score. Shanahan, however, scored on a sloppy wrist shot from the left wing late in the period on even strength, but on the next shift the Kings made it 4-1, which was to become the final score.
Jagr tried his best in the game but was shadowed pretty well by Norström. He made quite a few moves in the game and had a plenty of shots, but wasn't quite able to get successful, ending his little three-game-scoring streak. His line with Nylander and Straka didn't have the same kind of working passing play as against the Coyotes. The Rangers had, among other power plays, a five-on-three in the third period but could not score on Mathieu Garon who was playing very well for the Kings.
29th October 2006
The Rangers were back on track, playing a strong team game to beat the Coyotes 7-3 in the first game of their Western Conference road trip.
Jagr had a good game, assisting on Straka's equalizer goal in the first period, Cullens's 2-1 goal in the second period and Shanahan's ninth goal late in the third peirod on the power play. Jagr also scored one himself, tapping in the puck from mid air from close range!
The Straka, Nylander and Jagr line is looking just as good always, making you wonder why Renney mixed things up earlier this week, just because of one not so good performance from the line.
The team visits Los Angeles tomorrow to take on the Kings.
26th October 2006
The Rangers played a painful looking game as they hosted the Panters at MSG last night and lost 4-2.
The first line of Prucha, Straka and Jagr in particular, had problems getting any room in the first period. Often problems started in the defensive zone, with the defense unable to find the forwards with good passes.
Jagr showed some great speed and determination on the Rangers first goal of the game, in the second period. Jaromir picked up a cleared shot on a power play and brought the puck from his end to the other and threw a pass from behind the net that Prucha ended up scoring on. But it was not to much delight, as the Panthers came back to retake the lead half a minute later.
Jagr was back on a line with Nylander and Straka during most of the second period. Prucha brought more speed to the line but seemed to play a wholly different game from Straka and Jagr.
With Nylander on the line, the line seemed to work a lot better. Straka scored on a nice move, set up nicely by Ward with seven minutes to go in the game, but three minutes later, the Panthers killed the Rangers hopes, with another Stumpel goal.
Renney will have a lot to think about as the team now starts a road trip to play the Western Conference teams.
22th October 2006
Visiting Toronto, the Rangers played a 4-4 game against the Leafs, the game eventually going to a shootout. Shanahan was the only one to score, ending the Rangers' losing-streak with a five-hole-shot!
Jagr created quite a lot of chances in the game. He has started to shoot the puck more frequently, this time around registering 5 shots on goal, but no goals. He had two assists, both first assists on the power play. Jaromir tried something more simple on the shootout than the backhand pull of last time but missed his shot to the right of the net. Jagr has now got 13 points in 8 games.
19th October 2006
The Rangers were handed a frustrating loss as the Predators blanked them with a 3-0 win.
Jagr had 9 shots on goal and played for 26 minutes, the by far highest numbers so far this season, but Vokoun stopped them and the other 29 shots registered by the Blueshirts.
17th October 2006
The game started the way you'd exepect a game against the Devils would. Tight defense and checking and not a lot of room for much in the way of nifty moves.
The Devils had three power plays in the first period, but were not able to score. Brodeur and Lundqvist both played very well, stopping 14 and 12 shots.
Aaron ward scored the first goal of the game midway through the second period. Jagr was on the ice during the goal, but did not pick up an assist. It did not take long, however, before the Devils took advantage of a loose puck behind Lundqvist, that was poked in by Gomez.
The Rangers finally got a power play late in the second period. Shanahan took control again and used a deadly slap shot to beat Brodeur. Just a minute later, Jason Ward scored on a two-on-one, shorthanded!
The Devils got an early third period goal to make it 3-2. Lundqvist made some amazing saves in the third peirod to keep the Rangers in the lead. The Rangers first line showed their skill by scoring a late 4-2 goal to end a very hard fought game! Jaromir picked up an assist on the goal.
Jagr did not have a lot of room in the game. No room at all to be exact! He was controlled hard by the Devils; Madden's line always hit the ice at the same time the Rangers' first line did. His best shift was probably his last one. Battling hard for the puck in the offensive zone and making a couple of shot attempts.
15th October 2006
The red hot Sabres were just too strong on home ice for the Rangers, beating them 7-4. A two goal lead midway through the first period was not enough to keep the Sabres calm. They outshot the Rangers 32-23 and were able to keep the Rangers to two power play goals, although having 28 penalty minutes (one 10-minute game misconduct).
Jagr keeps racking up the points. Setting up Shanahan's power play goal and Straka's late goal in the third period he has now got 10 points in 5 games! With his soulder not anywhere near 100 percent yet, he's taken the role of a playmaker, not taking many shots himself. Although recording mostly assists seems to work too, he would be even more dangerous, was he able to shoot like normal. How long that will take, if the shoulder is ever fully recovered, remains to see.
13th October 2006
The Rangers got an unlucky loss last night against the Penguins. New York lost 6-5 despite producing twice the amount of shots on goals the Penguinss did.
After a scoreless first period, the second period produced 3 goals a team. Jagr scored on a wrist shot at 4:45 and Cullen and Hall and the other two Rangers goals.
The third period had plenty of goals as well. Nylander had a power play goal (which was assisted by Prucha and Jagr). Jagr assisted on the game-tieing goal midway through the period as well, setting up Shanahan in front of the net.
Four of the Penguins goals came on the power play, and so did the last one... Crosby attempted a pass with just a few seconds to go in the game and the pass deflected in off a Rangers player. Jagr sat in the penalty box during the goal, serving his second hooking penalty of the game.
Overall a good game by the Rangers, but bad penalty killing and too many penalties as well as some unlucky plays, made the Penguins look good.
11th October 2006
Flyers started the game with a lot of energy. Forsberg managed to get behind the defense and scored early in the first period. The Flyers dominated most of the time, but a blocked shot by Prucha led to a two-on-one that Pock finished with a wrist shot. Jaromir made a deary move on the next shift, trying to stickhandle to in front of the goal, but did not score on the attempt.
The second period didn't start too well for the home team. Knuble and Sanderson had a goal each and the power play, that the Rangers earned moments later did not produce a lot.
Instead, a couple of minutes later, Forsberg set up Gagne with a hard pass on a five-on-three power play.
Jaromir definitely looked like a captain after the 4-1 goal, trying very hard to beat the Flyers, and in the end of the period it payed off. He worked the puck behind the net and was knocked down, but Nylander got the puck and gave it to Shanahan who blasted in his 3rd goal of the season.
The early third period had a couple of penalties against the Flyers. The Rangers power play did, however, not result in any goals. On even strength, the Rangers had serious problems just to get the puck out of their own zone. Niittymäki was also very good in the Flyers net, stopping many tough shots. The game ended 4-2 and it was definitely a well worth victory for Philadelphia.
8th October 2006
The Rangers beat the Flyers after a tough and even battle in Philadelphia.
The Rangers got a good start in this time around too, Nylander scoring, assisted by Malik and Jagr. Mike Knuble created a scoring chance for Forsberg midway through the period to tie the game and Gagne made it 2-1 before the period was over.
A few minutes into the second period, Jagr drew attention on the left wing and made a backhand pass to Rozsival who had a free passage to the net. Rozsival fumbled with the puck but was able to fire a wrist shot that slipt past Niittymäki. Matt Cullen scored to make it 3-2 a few minutes later, taking advantage of a strange bounce. Sanderson and Gagne didn't let the Rangers have the lead for long, scoring goals for the Flyers to end the period 4-3.
The third period produced just one goal; Adam Hall scoring at 8:33. After a scoreless overtime period, the game went to a shootout. Jaromir tried to score with a backhand move, but failed. The shootout went on and on and it was first in the 13th round that Hossa won the game for the Rangers, scoring on a simple five-hole wristshot!
Jagr made several nice passes in the game. In the second period he made a nice little move to get past a slowly moving Hatcher. He could have shot the puck himself, skating towards the goaie, but made a good pass to Nylander, who was not able to score. Jaromir has now got four points, one goal and three assists, in two games!
6th October 2006
Jagr was, as expected, named the Rangers new captain during the pregame ceremonies for the opening game last night. He definitely took the role seriously as he rushed into the offensive zone on his first shift, cut to the middle of the ice and used the defenseman as a screen to score with a wrister. It was the Rangers first shot on net and the goal gave the Rangers a kick start!
The Rangers had to kill a couple of penalties in the first period and were not able to score before Betts' goal in the second at 12:53; which made the game 2-1. Shanahan then introduced himself by scoring at 14:27 on a breakaway. Shanahan also scored his 600th goal early in the third period to give the Rangers a safe lead!
Rico Fata scored with less than two minutes to go in the game to make it 4-2, but Straka scored on the empty netter a minute later. Jaromir picked up his second point on that 5-2 goal. Yet again has Jagr had a successful opener!
Jagr was playing on a line with Nylander and Straka. Giving out information that he was to be paired with Shanahan, was maybe more of a trick to make the team less predictable than anything else.
The power play had few chances to work, but winning with only even strength goals, can't be anything but a good sign.
1st October 2006
Jaromir showed some more of his offensive skills Saturday as the Rangers beat the Bruins 5-3 and Jagr scored one power play goal and assisted on a similiar onetimer blast by Shanahan.
There are now just a few days till the Ranger face the Capitals at home to open up the regular season. It will probably be decided in the coming days whether Jagr, who has been skating with Nylander and Shanahan, will continue on that line or whether Straka will find his spot on the top line.
This year, the Rangers schedule can be found through the left hand menu. Actual "next game" info will not appear below the recaps.
30th September 2006
Jagr was back in business yesterday as the Rangers lost to the Islanders 2-1. Jaromir stepped on the ice a couple of minutes into the first period and logged a surprisingly high 21 minutes of ice time! Jaromir, who didn't record any points, was not bothered by his shoulder, and was seemingly able to keep away from hard body contact. Jagr will most likely play again today. Getting the chance to test his shoulder and get his timing back is definitely important if he's to be in game shape in the Regular season opener next week.
26th September 2006
Although the Rangers lost to the Islanders last night, they should be happy today, as their likely new captain, Jagr, was determined to be cleared for full contact practice as of today.
Jaromir said that he'd like to play in a couple of games before the opener. What kind of physical shape Jagr is in is hard to tell, not having been able to work out a lot during the summer, but it's nevertheless going to help him to have almost one and a half week of time to spend at getting back his touch.
21st September 2006
The website is back after a long summer holiday!
The Rangers have already played their first preseason game. Jagr, who has been unable to work out a lot during the summer is still having problems with his shuolder as it seems. He is practising now, which is a good thing of course, but has not been allowed to play with body contact yet. Hopefully he'll be in shape for the regular season as avoiding body contact and hits to his shoulder is going to be impossible then. With the amount of experience he has, I don't think attending a couple of preseason games is too important.
26th June 2006
It was a long time ago the Rangers made their exit from the playoffs. Too long it seems, as the NHL awards review is posted first now.
As you know by now, Jaromir did surprisingly not recieve the Hart trophy. Jagr recieved 974 points while Thornton, the winner of the trophy, got 1058 points and 19 more first place votes than Jaromir. The most disturbing thing was the fact that Jaromir recieved less second place votes than Thornton.
Jagr did, however, recieve the Lester B Paerson award, which of course is voted on by the players.
Thornton had almost only half the amount of goals Jaromir produced and his +/- was lower than the one of Jaromir. Jagr was just two points short of Thornton in the Art Ross race. There can be no doubt who was the more dominant and exciting player of the two. There's no question whether the North American bias towards Europeans is showing again. Or in other words, if there is no clear winner of a trophy, the winner is likely going to be the North American player. It can't only be blamed on bias, however, since a
North American writer likely appreciates the North American hockey style more than the East European style, and therefore doesn't value Jaromir's way of playing as much as a European hockey writer would. The fact that Thornton was very impressive the last few weeks of the season, while Jagr had a slump at the end of the season might also have affected the outcome.
Jagr has also had successful surgery to repair his shoulder. He is expected to fully recover in time for next season.
------------------------------------------------
30th April 2006
The Rangers got a nightmare start in Game Four this afternoon. Jagr was checked into the boards before having played even a minute and had to be helped off the ice.
That was later followed by a disallowed goal by Roszival, the ref judging the situation as a goalie inteference. But with just three seconds to go in the period nobody less than Jed Ortmeyer gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead!
In the second period Hollweg was hit from behind. The penalty drawn produced a Rangers power play that resulted in a shot that hit the post. Seconds later, the Rangers gave the Devils a power play after being penalized for too many men on the ice. Scott Gomez used the situation to tie the game. Elias, the hottest player in the playoffs, scored a few minutes later on a another power play and the second period ended 2-1.
In the third period Gionta scored shorthanded and Elias definitely put the game away by scoring the 4-1 goal on a nice move.
Rucchin had a late power play goal but it was too late and too little.
Jagr's return for Game Three was definitely too early - the injury is surely one that should keep a player from playing for at least a few weeks. Aggravating the injury today will not exactly help in his rehab. Hopefully the summer break will be long enough he will not be bugged by it the least in the coming season.
A losing streak at the end of the season, a Lundqvist being anything but sharp since his comeback and an injured Jagr led to the Rangers being beaten 4-0 in the first round of the playoffs. It's called bad luck. Still it was nothing more than a disappointing end to a otherwise great comeback season for the Blueshirts.
Now, let's hope Jaromir will be able to claim the Hart and the Maurice Richards Award when the winners are announced, after the playoffs!
27th April 2006
Jaromir made a very surprising return as the Rangers hosted the Devils for Game Three at the Madison Square Garden!
A noticably half-injured Jagr, who played for just 17 minutes, could, however, not do anything to stop the always effective New Jersey team. The home team suffered a 3-0 loss to make the series the same numbers.
On Saturday, the Rangers might be wiped out of the playoffs. Hopefully Jagr's quick return did not aggravate the injury. Jaromir needs to be able to play at pretty much full throttle on Saturday if the Rangers are to have a chance..
Next game: 29th, vs. Devils at 3:00 p.m.
25th April 2006
Jagr did not play as the Rangers fell to the Devils again, this time with the score 4-1.
Jaromir and his scoring firepower could definitely have been needed as the Rangers played quite well but couldn't put the puck in the net. Brodeur was of course, as last time, very good in goal and let only a shot by Betts past.
With the series down 2-0 already, Jaromir is definitely a player who needs to play well if the Rangers are to turn the series around. Jagr was, however, stated today as saying he will not play in Game three. With the shoulder injury and the pain, he would not be able to do anything worthwhile on the ice. At best Jagr will be back for game four, which might be the last Rangers game of the season.
Next game: 26th, vs. Devils at 7:00 p.m.
22nd April 2006
The Rangers, back in the playoffs after a long abscense, opened the series against the Devils in New Jersey last night, and things started looking just as tough and even as you'd expect from a meeting between two rivals. The Devils got the first goal of the game, but Jagr set up Prucha nicely for the 1-1 goal in the first period.
The Rangers started the second period well, getting some power play opportunities. Gionta, however, struck after a nice passing play on a Devils' power play. Jagr, who with his energy and will really looked like the Rangers leader in the first two periods, drew a penalty moments after the goal, but the Rangers could not get back to tie the game. The second period was full of power plays and penalty killings. Brodeur was very impressive in goal whenever the Rangers got close. Ken Klee gave the Devils a 3-1 lead before the period was over.
In the third period, the Devils got a fourth goal early on. Jagr was penalized for a very gentle hooking and Rafalski struck. Langenbrunner scored the 5-1 goal later in the period to erase any hope the Rangers had left. Jagr also seemed to injure his shoulder as he stretched his elbow towards Elias, trying to stop him from scoring the 6-1 goal!
Jagr had a high 9 shots on goal in the game. With the rest of the Rangers not able to create a lot and Lundqvist not too sharp in goal, it will be a tough uphill battle for the Rangers to come back and show they can do better. If Jaromir did injure his shoulder seriously, the Rangers are going to have a very tough chance to do anything with the series, as it looks now. More on his status, likely tomorrow.
Next game: 24th, vs. Devils at 7:00 p.m.
19th April 2006
In the regular season finale against the Senators, Jagr started looking all pumped up, making a nice move on Chara early on in the first period.
Jaromir played great the whole first period; the classic line with Straka, Nylander and Jagr putting a lot of pressure on the Senators. There was no doubt Jaromir was aware of what was at stake in this game.
Late in the period both Jagr and Prucha were very close to scoring for the Rangers, but their shots were saved.
Jagr was double shifted late in the period. Chara jumped on the ice as expected, but could not control him. Jaromir was, however, penalized for playing with a broken stick and the first period ended 0-0.
The Rangers started strong in the second period as well, but the Senators goalie, Emery, kept the Blueshirts away. Jaromir found Malik a few minutes into the period for a shot that so nearly went in. It was Eaves who got the first goal of the game, scoring at 8:28 into the second period. Things started to look depressing 15 minutes in when Alfredsson scored a power play goal. Just seconds later, however, Jagr took command and set up Straka from behind the net for the 2-1 goal.
Lundqvist was back in the Rangers net and was quite solid in goal the first two periods.
The third period was not very nice for the Rangers. The Senators showed what a great team they are, scoring three times to win the game 5-1.
By picking up only one assist, Jagr fell short to winning either of the thropies he seemed destined to win earlier in the season. Cheechoo beat him for the goal scoring title with two goals and Thornton did the same in points. Definitely a frustrating situation for any Jagr fan, but Jaromir has nevertheless showed he is the most dangerous and dynamic offensive player in the league this season, and the Lester B Pearson award must be his for taking. He should definitely have a great chance of winning the Hart thropy as well.
He finished the season with 123 points, playing in all 82 games. 54 of those were goals and he also had an amazing 34 +/- rating.
The Rangers will play the Devils in the first round of the playoffs. Considering how the Blueshirts have been doing, the team should get sweeped. But that is yet to see.
Next game: 22nd, vs. Devils at 3:00 p.m.
18th April 2006
Thornton and Cheechoo were both shut down against the Kings last night. That makes for quite a bit of excitement for the Rangers last regular season game tonight. If Jagr was to score three points, the Art Ross would be his. If he scored two goals, he'd tie the goal scoring title and by scoring three he would take home both of the thropies! Let's hope for the best of finishes!
LET's GO JAGR!
Next game: 18th vs Senators, 7:00 p.m.
16th April 2006
The Rangers are not leaving us feeling very well with the playoffs coming up. Yesterday the team was defeated by the Flyers 4-1.
For a Jagr fan, the most depressing thing must, however, be the fact that Jagr was shut down and that the San Jose remains one of the hottest teams in the NHL with Thornton picking up three points and Cheechoo scoring a hat-trick to overtake Jagr in the goal scoring lead.
The Rangers play the Senators on the 18th. Will Jagr be able to put up the kind of huge numbers he needs to retake the scoring lead? With the Rangers playing against the Senators, the best defensive team in the league, chances are very small. It has nevertheless been an amazing regular season for Jagr. If having dominated games is what matters in the vote for the Hart and the Lester B Pearson, there's no question about what skater has been the most outstanding one.
Next game: 18th vs Senators, 7:00 p.m.
14th April 2006
The progress as of late has been anything but what a Rangers and a Jagr fan could ask for. The Rangers lost 5-3 to another team they should have beaten and on the same time Thornton racked up a pile of assists to get 122 points for the season, the same amount as Jagr.
Kevin Weekes sure is starting to contrast himself quite a bit to Lundqvist. There's no doubt that the return of Lundqvist could be vital to the Rangers chances of not making a fool of themselves in the playoffs. It should be mentioned that the loss is in no way to be blamed on only one player, however, Weekes rarely can save the Rangers from playing bad the same way Lundqvist can. The only good thing with the game last night, was Jagr's 54th goal, that was scored on a beautiful move. Instead of wristing a shot, Jagr moved through the defense and deked the goalie.
Both Jagr and Thornton have got two games left. San Jose plays Anaheim and Los Angeles while the Rangers face Philadelphia and Ottawa. It probably does not need to be said that Jagr is going to have a tougher time collecting points than Thornton. We can just hope that Jagr with his superiror skill will have enough luck to both grab the Art Ross and the Mauric Richards award.
-- Let's go Jagr! --
Next game: 15th vs Flyers, 2:00 p.m.
12th April 2006
Jagr had two assists and Nylander and Prucha had the two Rangers goals as the team suffered a surprising 3-2 defeat to the Islanders.
Before the game, Jagr was honored for the Rangers records of his, being handed among other things a silver stick. Jagr could, however, not score in the game, but did nevertheless have two assists to bring his points total to 121. The Rangers looked a bit weak in the first two periods, but came back in the third period and was not too far away from tieing the game. In the same period Jaromir was struck by a stick in the face and needed stiching. The incident did not draw a penalty.
Next game: 13th vs Pens, 2:00 p.m.
10th April 2006
The Devils have been looking strong as of late, warming up for the playoffs maybe. Yesterday was no exception, as they beat the Rangers 3-2.
It was a tough and high paced game. The Rangers had quite a few good scoring chances but were not able to score quite as frequently as New Jersey. Blair Betts scored the Rangers first goal. In the same second period, awhile later, Ozolinsh gave his team the lead on the power play, assisted by Jagr. The third period, however, belonged to the Devils, as they scored twice with goals from Gomez and Gionta.
Tomorrow the team faces the maybe not quite as defensive and intensive Islanders.
Next game: 11th vs Islanders, 7:00 p.m.
9th April 2006
Jaromir scored that long awaited 53rd goal as the Rangers edged the Bruins 4-3 in overtime yesterday.
Jagr's goal came in the first period as he picked up a pass on the left wing and wristed a low shot past the goalie. He also set up the Nylander goal in the second period that tied the game at 2-2. Jagr made a quick move standing near the blue line, skated around the goal, threw a shot on the net and Nylander scored on the rebound.
After Jarkko Immonen had scored his second NHL game on a power play, Brad Boyes managed to wrist a shot past Weekes to take the game to overtime. Just 40 seconds into the period, Nylander stepped up again and scored to give the Rangers 100 points for the season. Jaromir had his second assist of the night on the goal.
There's no time for rest, as the team faces the Devils tonight.
Next game: 9th vs Devils, 7:30 p.m.
7th April 2006
Jagr almost scored his 53rd goal last night. Martin Straka's pass was, however, deflected in off a defenseman. The MVP chants had already started. Jagr was credited for the goal, but Jaromir was an honest guy and as the period was over, he told the ref he never touched the puck and Straka was awarded the goal. The 53rd goal will have to wait for a little while more to be scored.
The Rangers went on to win the game 3-1, and Jagr was held without points, even if he was on the ice for all of the Rangers goals and was a +/- 3. He is clearly getting a bit uncomfortable with all the hype about getting the 53rd record goal. Hopefully we'll see it soon so as he can have a little break!
Next game: 8th vs Bruins, 2:00 p.m.
5th April 2006
Another low scoring game, but the Rangers were able to beat the Flyers in a shootout after the game was still 2-2 after overtime.
In the first period, Jagr, who was awarded the offensive player of the month in March, made a nice backhand pass to Ozolinsh. He got the puck to Nylander who beat the goalie with a shot from the right side of the net. Jaromir could, however, not score his 53rd, record goal even if he had an amazing 12 shots on goal. His maybe best chance came as he came skating down the right wing and fired a hard wrist shot to the upper right corner. Earlier in the game he also made a nice deke to create a chance, but could not get the puck in the net.
Sykora, who has turned into a real shootout expert, scored and Weekes made the decisive save on Handzus.
Lat but not least: With the win the Rangers secured a playoff spot!
Next game: 6th vs Islanders, 7:00 p.m.
31st March 2006
Giving up three power play goals, the Rangers lost to the Senators 4-1 last night.
Jagr, who did not feel too well due to a cold, made the pass for the Tyutin goal in the first period to get 114 points. That's eight more than Thornton, who again was held without points in the San Jose game. Despite the cold, Jaromir played for more than 24 minutes and registerd 5 shots on goal.
The Rangers overall performance was not too good. Even if the teams were more even five-on-five the Senators power play turned out deadly.
Jagr did not register his 53rd, Rangers goal scoring record goal. That means he has the chance to score it in front of the home crowd and against the Flyers on the 4th!
Next game: 4th vs Flyers, 7:00 p.m.
30th March 2006
The Islanders were not much of a threat to the Rangers. Jagr set up all of the Rangers first four goals as they cruised to a 5-1 win!
Jaromir's first point came on the power play when he set up Prucha for one-timer. The assist made him pass Jean Ratelle for the Rangers' all time lead in points. Jagr's second assist came as he nicely set up Straka after having skated past the offensive blue line. The third one, Straka's second of the night, he earned on a pass from behind the net, while the fourth one came on a Straka deflection.
Jagr had a chance to score himself too on a breakaway, but was forced to shoot the puck from many feet away from the goalie as he had not picked up sufficient speed.
After the game, Jagr mentioned that he is planning to retire when his contract expires in two years and move back to Europe. How true that statement is we'll see in two years, if nothing else!
Today the team faces off against Ottawa. Can the team that has allowed the fewest amount of goals in the NHL shut down Jagr?
Next game: 30h vs Senators, 7:00 p.m.
28th March 2006
The Rangers took a rare shootout victory as they beat the Sabres 5-4!
It was quite a performance by the Rangers. After scoring twice in the first period, being up 2-1, the team fell to 4-2 after the middle of the game.
Weekes had to leave the net for Lundqvist, who was as solid as you can be in the Rangers net.
Jagr didn't want to leave the game without points. He first set up Sykora in the crease with a nice centering pass and then scored the game-tier with 10 minutes to go in the game. Jagr was clearly happy with the goal, and yet again he got the fans on their feet, applauding the great comeback. Jaromir tied the goal and points record Jagr bombarded the Sabres with shots in overtime, but the game nevertheless went to a shootout. Sykora used his quick backhand shot to grab the extra point for New York.
The Islanders should be a pretty easy opponent for the Rangers. Let's hope the amazing Jagr show continues, if nothing else, the competition against Thornton is looking quite even again. What a show Jaromir has given us this season no matter if he ends up with the Art Ross or not!
Next game: 29th vs Islanders, 7:00 p.m.
26th March 2006
In the back-to-back game, the Blueshirts faced the same destiny as in the first of the two games. After leading 3-1 early in the second period, the Lightning came back to tie the game. After a scoreless overtime, Jagr, Sykora and Nylander all missed on their shootout attempts.
A disappointing loss, but the team did get one valuable point to keep their division lead.
Jagr, who had six shots on goal, is as hot as usual, assisting on the Prucha power play goal and scoring himself after a nice pass by Prucha in the second period. Joe Thornton had three assists as San Jose easily beat the Wild. That means Thornton gained a point on Jagr in the competition for the Art Ross.
Next game: 27th vs Buffalo, 7:00 p.m.
25th March 2006
The Rangers were handed a surprising loss as the Panthers beat them in the shootout after the game was tied 2-2.
Jaromir, who else, scored the first goal of the game, his 50th of the season, as he moved the puck in past the blue line moved the puck on his stick before shooting a wrist shot from the left circle. It was Jagr's 105th point of the season.
The Panthers came back with two goals, but Sykora tied the game in the second period. The game went to overtime and after a scoreless overtime the Rangers lost the shootout after goals by Horton and Jokinen. Sykora scored on his attempt, while Nylander and Jagr missed theirs. Jaromir made a nice move to pull the puck on his backhand, but could not get the puck in.
Next game: 25th @ Tampa, 7:30 p.m.
23rd March 2006
Jaromir remains hotter than ever. He scored all three Rangers goals in their 3-6 loss to the Flyers last night.
Jagr picked up a Nylander pass after the blue line, evaded some poke checks and wristed a hard shot for his first goal of the game. Five minutes later in the first period, Jagr shielded the puck and skated around a defenseman, blasting in another shot. In the second period Jagr completed the hat trick on the power play, scoring on another somewhat similiar play, beating the goalie with a wrist shot. It was Jagr's 49th goal of the season! The Rangers fans shouted "MVP" again, and it's becoming more and more certain that Jaromir has been the by far most valuable player in the NHL this season. Later in the second period Jagr almost scored his fourth goal, as he made some dekes in the offensive zone and threw another wrist shot on net.
Except for the success of Jagr, there was not much to speak of in the game.
The Rangers play the Panthers tomorrow. Hopefully an easy win and some more points for #68!
Next game: 24nd @ Florida, 7:30 p.m.
21st March 2006
The Rangers are on a roll! The team beat the Bruins again 5-2, doing so without relying on Jagr to score.
Rozsival, the Rangers best +/- guy, stepped up and had one goal and two assists in the game. Straka had a goal and an assist.
Moore, Betts and Nylander also had goals for New York.
Jaromir picked up an assist on the Nylander goal for his 102nd point of the season. The goal was nicely set up by Prucha who also had just one assist in the game.
The race for the Art Ross and the Maurice Richard award will likely be thight. The second highest point getter so far, Joe Thornton has 16 games left and Jagr has only 14. Therefore Jaromir needs a slighly higher point production than Thornton for the remaining of the season. It might turn into a very nervous battle for all us Jagr fans!
Next game: 22nd vs. Flyers, 7:00 p.m.
19th March 2006
The Blueshirts did just that; showed us that they are out of their slump, beating the Leafs 5-2!
When the Rangers are winning this season they are usually doing that when Jagr and Lundqvist are playing well. Both of them were great but especially Jaromir dominated.
Jagr opened the scoring when he fired a blast of a wrist shot past Tellqvist in the first period. In the second period Jagr put the game away by setting up three Rangers goals. Sykora, Nylander and Prucha were the goal scorers. After setting up the last goal, the New York crowd was chanting "MVP", and there's no question about how valuable Jagr has been to the Rangers this season.
Prucha, who is playing only his fourth game this year, is clicking very well with Jagr and with the assist on the Prucha goal, Jagr has now got 100 points for the season!!
Tomorrow the team faces the Bruins, looking to continue the Jagr show and get on a three-game winning streak!
Next game: 20th vs. Bruins, 7:00 p.m.
18th March 2006
There won't be an update for the latest Rangers game against the Capitals. The Rangers play again tonight, with the Leafs as their opponent, with Jagr fired after scoring on a good individual effort against the Capitals, this one could be a nice opportunity for the Rangers to show us they are out of their slump.
Next game: 18th vs. Leafs, 7:00 p.m.
15th March 2006
The slump continues. The Hurricanes grabbed a 5-3 win against the Rangers who are now winless in six games.
There were rumors that Jagr, who at least battles groin and hip injuries, was going to rest. Although he is giving it his best effort, there are moments when you sure would want him to take a week or two off. Jaromir did, however, play and picked up an assist on one of Nylander's two goals after carrying the puck past the defense and into the offensive zone.
Weekes made 28 saves compared to Gerber's 41 and Jagr had a six-shot game... When will the Rangers get a little break from their bad luck?
Next game: 16th vs. Capitals, 7:00 p.m.
13th March 2006
Another game, another loss. Things have not gone the Rangers way as of late. Yesterday against the Thrashers, the team got a 2-0 lead, but gave it away in the third period and gave Atlanta the extra point in overtime.
Straka had the first second period goal. Straka playing on a line with Rucchin and Sykora and Jagr playing with Rucinsky and Nylander.
Jagr used a backhand shot from a very small angle to score the 2-0 goal. The Rangers were energized and things were looking good. Martin Straka's penalty in overtime eventually led to the overtime goal scored by Savard.
Jagr had another 7-shot game, not being very lucky in beating Kari Lehtonen as of late. He left in the game in the second period but returned for the last period. It might be groin problems this time, but since he returned, with the game having a 2-0 lead, it can't be bad.
Next game: 14th vs. Hurricanes, 7:00 p.m.
12th March 2006
The Canadiens handed the Rangers another frustrating loss last night, beating them 1-0.
Goalie Cristobal Huet was excellent for Montreal, stopping 26 shots, seven of them from Jagr, and several on a five-on-three in the third period. Sandis Ozolinsh played his first game as a Ranger, playing for nearly 25 minutes.
Being held without points again and Joe Thornton picking up points with ease in San Jose, Jagr is now tied at 92 points for the scoring lead. But Jagr's luck will have to change sometime, and he has another chance to score today when New York faces Atlanta.
Next game: 12th vs. Thrashers, 5:00 p.m.
9th March 2006
The Blueshirts got a point last night, losing to the Thrashers in the shootout.
Kovalchuk scored the first goal of the game. The Rangers came back with a powerplay onetimer from Jagr (trademark 2005/2006 season), but Atlanta retook the lead.
Late in the second period, Pock scored the game-tieing goal for the Rangers.
In overtime, Jagr was penalized for an illegal stick. In the shootout, his stick did not make the test, not being able to take his shot. According to an angry Jagr, his stick was legal, or at least according to the Rangers way of measuring. Whether the referee made a mistake measuring the blade curve, we can't really say. Whether Jagr would have scored we can't say either. What we do know is that Hossa scored on the last shot of the shootout, giving the Thrashers an extra point. A strong team effort by the Thrashers who have been playing some good hockey as of late.
Next game: 11th vs. Canadiens, 7:00 p.m.
7th March 2006
Martin Gerber shut the door against the Rangers, only allowing one goal, as the Hurricanes beat the Rangers 2-1.
Rucchin had the only Rangers goal. Jagr had five shots on goal and made a couple of good passes, but finished without any points, now being on a rare two-game scoring drought. The first time this season he has been scoreless in two consecutive games.
Lundqvist made 17 saves while Gerber made 20 more than that.
Next game: 8th vs. Atlanta, 7:00 p.m.
5th March 2006
The Rangers suffered a 2-1 loss to the Devils last night, even if outshooting their opponent 27-20.
The lone Rangers goal was scored by Rucinsky. That was the only goal Brodeur wanted to give up. The Rangers only had three power play opportunities, and against a team that defends as well as the Devils, power play goals are of even more importance.
Jagr had his scoring-streak come to an end, producing 3 shots on goal, but logging a normal amount of ice time.
Next game: 6th vs. Carolina, 7:00 p.m.
3rd March 2006
When you are just that deadly a scorer, you can just as well give your team a little lead in the first two periods and rest for most of the third one! That's what Jagr did last night against the Flyers, continuing his scoring-streak by scoring twice and setting one goal up.
Jagr set Nylander up nicely in front of the net in the first period.
In the second period he blasted in a mean one-timer and awhile later he picked up a puck and scored on a wrist shot, another power play goal.
Betts, Ward and Rucinsky had the other three goals in the game, the Rangers beating the Flyers 6-1.
Jagr, who injured his groin in the Bronze medal game, was bothered by it again in the third period, and therefore he decided to rest. Considering Jagr's history of groin problems, this is not good news, but at best he will be able to both play and slowly get rid of the minor injury.
Jaromir's third point of the game was his 1400th career point! When asked about it by reporters he gave the best of answers: "I got lucky, I scored. What do you want me to say?" he said laughing.
Next game: 4th @ Devils, 7:30 p.m.
26th February 2006
Congratulations to the Czech Republic, who beat Russia last night to grab the Bronze medal.
Even if the team got a medal, the Czech team did not impress at all, not playing anywhere like what we were used to. By playing great hockey in the quarter finals, they were still able to come this far.
Hopefully Jagr and the other Rangers Czechs have not lost confidence and will continue their great seasons in New York in a week.
Big congratulations to Sweden who beat Finland in the gold medal game. Finland just barely lost the game, Sweden surving the late third period attacks. Finland was the most consistent team of the tournament, and was clearly not happy with the silver medal at all. Still a great feat by the North European nations.
Next game: 2nd vs. Flyers
24th February 2006
The Czechs will play in the Bronze medal game after looking disoriented against Sweden this evening, losing 7-3.
The Czech defense looked really bad in especially the first two periods and Sweden took a 5-1 lead. The Czech Republic came back with some lucky goals and had a long power play with the game reduced to 5-3 but was not able to get back into the game. Hnilicka did not look sharp in net and was changed to Vokoun who did a pretty good job this time. The abscense of Hasek, a goalie who really could have helped cover the defensive mistakes, was evident.
The Czech coach was as deterimined as ever to play all his line, leaving very little time for the top lines to get into the game. In the third period, Jagr started getting more ice time, but with Sweden having a three goal lead, it was just way too late to try to create some momentum. Lundqvist looked quite solid when at times things looked better, keeping the game from getting too exciting.
The Czechs looked nowhere near the team they were against Slovakia, a team that probably would have given the Swedes a better match; instead they looked pretty much as scatterbrained as during most other games in the Olympics. If they win the Bronze tomorrow, it's more because they wanted to keep some of their national team status alive, than anything else.
Next game: 25th vs. Finland/Russia
23rd February 2006
The Czech Republic are back on track again after looking strong against Slovakia in the quarters and beating them 3-1!
The team really came together and dominated Slovakia offensively, even if Slovakia had been one of the most impressive teams in the first round of the tournament.
Rucinsky scored a goal on a breakaway in the first period, Hejduk added one in the second period and Gaborik took advantage of the situation that followed after a Czech defenseman fell, to score for Slovakia in the third period. Straka ended the game with an empty-netter with three seconds to go in the game!
Jagr did not pick up any points but was a sharp playmaker in the game.
Hnilicka played another solid game, really taking the role of the star goalie the Czechs were lacking in the group round games.
Tomorrow the Czechs face off against Sweden. Sweden has not looked good as of late, although beating Switzerland with ease.
Finland and Russia, the two best working teams of the tournament, face off in the later one of the two games tomorrow.
Next game: 24th vs. Sweden
21st February 2006
Luckily it was just an unimportant game.
Canada won after scoring 3 goals on a very shaky looking Vokoun in the first period.
Hnilicka stepped in to begin the second period, and it wasn't a second too late. Vokoun has not been good in any game of the Olympics so far and with the quarters coming up, that's something that would send the Czechs home even if they played decent defense and offense.
It was first in the second period that the Czech offense started working, playing smart and quick and earning power plays.
Jagr made a pass to Straka early in the second period, whose shot stopped at the goal line.
Brodeur made a great glove save mid-period on a Jagr one-timer but Jaromir set up Kubina for a blasting one-timer on a five-on-three awhile later; the only puck the Czechs managed to get past Brodeur in the second period, who was great in goal, although sometimes definitely having the luck on his side.
In the third period, Cajanek beat Broduer with a wrist shot, just a few minutes in.
It's very noticable how Jagr doesn't get the same kind of ice time as he does in the NHL. The Czechs wanting to play all the lines, saving Jagr for the quarters. Although the team lost, they also showed that the quick Czech kind of hockey is still very much alive.
Next game: 22nd vs. ?
19th February 2006 UPDATE II
Jagr was back in the lineup with the cut in his forehead stitched and a bruised eye, but otherwise looking strong.
Jaromir had several scoring chances in first period, his best one a two-on-one with Straka. Italy had a couple of good scoring chances before Hejduk scored the 1-0 goal and Jagr set Prospal up for the 2-0 goal a little while later.
In the second period, Prospal scored his second goal of the game.
Jaromir did not dress up for the third period, likely resting to be in top shape tomorrow against Canada. The Czechs did not need him to hold off the Italians either, the game ending 4-1, with Prospal scoring his third goal of the game on an empty-netter.
Next game: 21st vs. Canada
19th February 2006
Jagr was uglily checked into the boards in the beginning of the second period yesterday as the Czechs lost 4-2 to Finland.
Jaromir played well the first period and the Czech team seemed to have control of the game. Jarkko Ruutu changed that by smashing Jaromir's head into the boards. Jagr lied on the ice bleeding from a cut in his forehead for a few minutes before leaving the ice. Ruutu had to leave the game too, with a game misconduct. The crowd booed and whistled for several minutes, certainly not happy with Ruutu's attack. It should be mentioned, tough, that the it would probably not have turned out worse than a minor or major boarding or charging penalty if Jaromir had not had his head turned down, something Ruutu surely did notice. It was in other words an intentional boarding and there was no question about whether he knew what he was doing and to whom!
The first line and the Czech power play seemed lost for the rest of the game. With Hasek out of the tournament, Vokoun has not been impressive in goal. Finland has been the most impressive team of the tournament, already playing very well as a team. They went on to win the game 4-2.
Jaromir is not certain for the game today against Italy, but he did luckily not suffer a concussion and should be back if not today, then against Canada in two days.
Next game: 19th vs. Italy
16th February 2006
The Czechs haven't gotten the easiest of starts in the Olympics. After struggling against Germany, but still beating them, the team could not handle Switzerland, suffering a tough 3-2 loss.
The Swiss team played very well and although the Czechs cleraly had more scoring chances, David Aebischer was amazing in the Swiss goal, giving his team a chance to win the game.
Jagr, who fired several shots on goal and made some nice moves again, scored one in the second period, set up nicely by Straka for a wrist shot.
The Persistent Swiss team battled back and with three goals, the team simply won the game. The Hasek-less Czech Republic will have to look themselves in the mirror and figure out how to improve their team play and chemistry first, and the goaltending situation second. The tournament could be over very quickly otherwise.
Next game: 18th vs. Finland
15th February 2006
The Czech Republic beat Germany 4-1 on the opening day of the Olympic hockey.
Jagr played on line with Elias and Lang to begin with. A strange thing, considering how well he has done alongside Straka in New York.
Jaromir made a great move in the first period, splitting through the German defense, but was not able to finish.
But the game did not turn out the way it should have for the Czechs. The Germans played good defense as usually and with the Czech team not looking very sharp, they got more and more into the game as it went along.
Jaromir recieved a hooking penalty in the first period and he had barely stepped onto the ice again before he got an interference penalty. Germany scored while Jagr was boxed and the first period eneded 1-0 to the Germans.
In the second period Kaberle first used a bad line change to score on a wrist shot and then scored another one, nicely assisted by Straka and Jagr.
Jaromir, who had very few scoring opportunities, scored the 3-1 goal late in the last period with a wrist shot that bounced back and in from a German player, finally giving the Czechs some rest. Vyborny made it 4-1 with an empty-netter.
Hasek had to leave the game early. It did not look like a bad injury, but he still did not return.
Next game: 16th vs. Switzerland
12th February 2006 - Update II
To celebrate the amazing performance by the Rangers this season and especially the last couple of weeks, I bring you two new video clips. The first one of the classic goal Jagr scored against Belfour in the 1992 Stanley Cup finals, game one, and the second one from 28th January when Jagr dominated against the Penguins.
Check the menu to the left and the second video clips section.
12th February 2006
Things started like we have gotten used to. The Rangers displayed high quality offense, and their goalie took care of the other end of the ice. Jagr, who else, started the scoring at 12:15 in the first period. Sykora scored early in the second period and Jagr struck with his 40th goal of the season on another even-strength goal a while later! Mccabe continued his impressive play by scoring a late goal in the same period and Jason Allison gave the home fans some excitement with a goal early in the third period.
Jagr, who had to face tough physical play again, so nearly scored the hat trick but did not get the same kind of opportunities as he has lately on power plays. The Maple Leafs found some momentum in the third period, putting pressure on the Rangers, but Weekes kept things from getting too dangerous.
The Rangers and Jagr have put on an amazing show the last two week; Not the slightest of worries will probably go through their minds during the Olympics break. Jagr will leave for Italy tomorrow and the Czech Republic will face off against Germany in their first game of the tournament on Wednesday. Recaps of all games will of course be posted here on the site.
Next game: 15th vs. Germany
11th February 2006
Sometimes things go really well. And things are really going well for Jagr!
Jaromir lead his team to another victory last night against the Leafs, scoring twice and assisting once!
Chad Kilger had the lone first period goal, one of two pucks that got past the always excellent playing Lundqvist.
In the second period Jagr took control of a power play and scored on another one of his lethal onetimers. Jagr made it 2-2 a few minutes later as he scored another power play goal, this time using a well aimed wrist shot to beat Belfour.
Tom Poti scored on a breakaway to give the Rangers the lead before Sykora scored on a great wrist shot on the power play.
The Jagr show will hopefully continue tonight as the team faces the Leafs in Toronto for their last game before the Olympic games.
Next game: 11th vs. Leafs, home, 6:00 p.m.
9th February 2006
The Rangers are unbeaten in February, capturing their fourth consecutive win by beating the Senators with an impressive 5-1 score last night!
Lundqvist was again amazing in goal stopping 25 shots. With Lundqvist taking care of the goaltending, Jagr lead the offense, scoring the first goal of the game on another one of the onetimers that are becoming his deadly trademark this season.
Malik and Ward scored second period goals too and the first line of Nylander, Straka and Jagr shined bright again, scoring on a nice passing play in the third. Sykora scored the 5-1 goal with Straka and Jagr picking up the assists.
Jaromir, who really seems to have gotten a confidence boost lately, is now leading the league with 83 points. The goal was his 573 and it tied him with Bossy for 18th place in the NHL career lead.
Next game: 10th vs. Leafs, home, 7:00 p.m.
5th February 2006
The Blueshirts have turned into one of the hottest teams of the NHL. Even if their game was not anywhere near perfect last night, they found a way to win, beating the Flyers 4-3 in overtime.
Hossa had the first goal of the game in the first period. Assisted nicely by Ward and Prucha. Prucha was later in the game injured in a knee-to-knee collision. There is no word yet how bad the injury is, but it might definitely keep him out of the Olympics.
In the second period, Nylander scored from below the right circle, having taken a pass from Jagr.
But the Flyers kept playing hard and Knuble scored twice and Carter once to give the Flyers the lead. But so did the Rangers, and late in the third period, the desperate Rangers managed to get a shot on goal that deflected in! Sykora was credited with the goal.
With Jaromir setting up Straka for a play after that and Straka being tripped, the Rangers got to start the overtime four on three. The first line could not score early on, but Jagr stayed on the ice for another double shift. He found some room on the right wing and blasted in the overtime winner with a onetimer; his 35th goal of the season! What a way to end an even, exciting battle!
Next game: 8th vs. Sens, home, 7:00 p.m.
3rd February 2006
Martin Straka lead the way with three points as the Rangers beat the Islanders 5-2.
The Blueshirts got a 4-0 lead in the two first periods. Tyutin scored a power play goal at 13:35 and Rucchin scored a late first period power play goal. Jaromir got an assist on the Tyutin goal.
Rucinsky made it 3-0 at 22:16 into the game and Straka snapped a wrist shot on a penalty shot midway through the game.
Parrish had two goals in the third period before Jagr got the Rangers back on the board again, finishing a passing play with Nylander and Straka. Jaromir did not log especially much ice time. He did have six shots on goal. He will also get a chance to rest after the weekend. After the game against the Flyers on Saturday the team does not play before Wednesday. On Friday and Saturday the team plays the Maple Leafs in back-to-back games. Then comes the Olympics break. A break Jaromir really could have used to rest so as he would have been in a as good a shape as possible for the remaining half of the season.
Next game: 4th vs. Flyers, away, 5:00 p.m.
2nd February 2006
The Pens gave the Rangers a much better match this time around. They played hard and gave Jaromir a tough time, playing very physical hockey.
Steve Rucchin scored a shorthanded breakaway goal in the first period. Recchi scored on a good individual effort before the period was over.
Rozsival scored on a Straka pass from behind the net to give the Rangers the lead in the second period. Sykora added another power play goal in the third to end the game 3-1.
Jagr set up Straka for a good opportunity, was on the ice for both of the last two Rangers goals, but did not pick up any assists.
Next game: 2nd vs. Islanders, away, 7:00 p.m.
31st January 2006
The Flyers were a bit too tough for the Rangers to beat, even if the road team played without Forsberg.
Jagr started the scoring by snapping in a wrist shot off a Straka pass.
After a scoreless second period, Rucinsky scored the 2-0 goal, assisted by Sykora.
Joni Pitkänen, the Flyers promising defenseman, scored the 2-1 goal and Mike Richards took the game to overtime. Nobody less than Pitkänen stepped up and gave the Flyers the valuable extra point.
Jagr, logged 28:28 ice time even if he is battling a bad cold. It was Jagr's 33rd goal of the season. Only two goals up to the leading goal scorer, Kovalchuk now!
Next game: 1st vs. Pens, home, 7:00 p.m.
30th January 2006
Due to technical problems the recap for the Penguins game was never posted. The game was of course not much of a test for the Rangers who dominated the game completely and won 7-1, with Jagr having 11 shots on goal and scoring twice and assisting once. Today the team faces of against the Flyers in a slightly tougher challange.
Next game: 30th vs. Flyers, home, 7:00 p.m.
25th January 2006
The Rangers fought an even battle in New York yesterday when the Sabres came to visit.
Thomas Vanek scored the lone first period goal on a power play.
Jagr scored his 30th goal of the season in the second period when he skated past the blue line, recieved a Tyutin pass and wristed in a shot. Jaromir also set up Rucinsky for a semi-breakaway, but Rucinsky's backhand move did not work.
Ales Kotalik left the home team with a bitter taste in their mouths, scoring the 2-1 goal in the third period.
Lundqvis was again very solid in goal, making 22 stops. The Rangers team did just not find the offense needed to pull this one off.
Next game: 28th vs. Pens, home, 2:00 p.m.
23rd January 2006
One powerplay goal, one even strength goal and an empty-netter, to finish things up, gave the Rangers a 3-1 win against the Devils.
Prucha scored the power play goal. With Jaromir free on the right side of the ice, Prucha had enough confidence to simply shoot the puck himself; and score!
Jagr, who injured his finger in the game, although hopefully just lightly, set Nylander up for a breakaway with a pass from his own end at 15:06 in the second period. Sykora was tried on the first line alongside Jagr and Straka in the period. The Nylander goal came during a line change, but it still makes you wonder why Nylander is not moved back up to the first line. Some of the best games the first line has had, have been with Nylander playing alongside Jagr.
Gomez and Moore had the third period goals.
Lundqvist was again excellent in goal, stopping 31 shots!
Next game: 27th vs. Sabres, home, 7:00 p.m.
22nd January 2006
The Rangers are back on track, coming back to New York to play the Devils today, having beaten the Bruins 3-2 after a shootout.
Nylander led the team offense by setting up Ward for a goal in front of the net in the first period and then helping Sykora score a similiar goal in the second period. The Bruins came back with two goals in the second period.
Jagr had a mean one-timer late in the third period, but the shot was saved. In the shootout he was able to score and Sykora won the shootout in the sixth round with a nice backhand move.
Jaromir has not been very succesful in collecting points as of late. He played well against the Penguins, but the Bruins did a better job of containing him. In the last three games he has just one assist. He has still been able to keep his lead in the scoring lead. Kovalchuk was shut out last night, but Thornton and the first line stars in Ottawa are racking up points.
Next game: 22nd vs. Devils, home, 7:00 p.m.
20th January 2006
The Blueshirts finally got a victory, beating the Pens in Pittsburgh 4-2.
Prucha recorded three points in the game. His first goal came in the first period while his second came in the third period and gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead. Jaromir set it up after having skated into the offensive zone and around the net. It was Jagr's 70th point of the season!
Crosby tied the game 2-2, but Rozsival rifled in a slap shot at 15:48 and Nylander scored a minute later to make the score look better.
Next game: 21st vs. Bruins, away, 7:00 p.m.
17th January 2006
The Blue Jackets never give the Rangers an easy time in Columbus. Last night was no exception. With goals from Chimera, Vyborny and Shelley and a late breakaway goal from Nash, they beat the Rangers four goals to three.
Jagr was shut down, the Blue Jackets working hard and well to stop the Rangers first line. Hossa stepped up instead and scored twice. His second goal came in the third period as he broke to the net on a nice move. Jason Ward had a goal for the Rangers as well.
Next game: 19th vs. Penguins, away, 7:30 p.m.
15th January 2006
The Rangers winning-streak came to an end as the Red Wings beat them 4-3 in Detroit.
Jagr scored the first goal of the game, set up by Rucinsky and Straka late in the first period.
Robert Lang showed his old linemate that he too could score, getting a shot past Lundqvist on the powerplay in the second period. Shanahan and Nylander had goals in the period as well.
Shanahan added another one early in the third period and Johan Franzen scored the slightly devastating 4-2 goal. Jed Ortmeyer gave the Rangers some hope by scoring at 17:34. Rozsival and Jagr had the assists. But the Rangers defense and offense was not sharp enough in this game.
Jagr, who now has 69 points is still leading the league in points, but Kovalchuk is still scoring at a scary pace, definitely looking to become a tough opponent for Jagr in the pursuit for the Art Ross trophy!
Next game: 16th vs. Blue Jackets, away, 7:00 p.m.
13th January 2006
The focus was on Mark Messier who had his retirement ceremony but the Rangers crowd also got to see a win against the Oilers.
Steve Rucchin had the first goal of the game.
The Oilers came out strong in the second period, scoring three goal. Two on the power play and one shorthanded. The shorthanded goal came on a nice move by Alex Hemsky who barely beat Lundqvist on the breakaway.
Tyutin scored on a nice set up by Straka at 16:29 in the second period. Jagr, got a power play assist on the goal. Sykora scored another goal for New York before the period was over.
Prucha scored on an individual effort in the third period, using his speed to evade a defenseman on his way to his 21st goal of the season.
Peca scored another one shorthanded for the Oilers, but the overtime period was short and all about the Rangers. Michal Rozsival fed Jagr at the right circle and Jaromir had plenty of time to aim his shot as he beat Jussi Markkanen with a wrist shot to win the game!
Next game: 14th vs. Red Wings, away, 2:00 p.m.
11th January 2006
Petr Sykora played his first game as a New York Ranger and immediately made an impact, scoring a goal and assisting on another one.
After letting in two goals in the first period, Lundqvist kept the pucks out of the net for the rest of the game. With goals from Straka, Sykora, Ward and an empty-netter from Moore, the home team took a 4-2 win against Calgary.
Jagr, who was a +/- 1, did not register any points nor any shots on goal.
Next game: 12th vs. Oilers, home, 7:00 p.m.
8th January 2006
The Blueshirts were back with a bang, blanking the Panthers 4-0 yesterday on home ice.
Lundqvist got to start in goal and played a great game, showing who should be the Rangers number one goalie, judging from recent games. He stopped 38 shots while Luongo stopped only 25.
Jagr started the scoring in the first period. Nylander cruised in the offensive zone, passed it to Straka who found Jagr with a nice pass. Jagr had an open net and made no mistake.
Nieminen battled in a puck before the period was over to give the home team a 2-0 lead.
Petr Prucha scored his 20th goal of the season in the second period! Rucinsky and Straka had the power play assists.
Jaromir scored another one in the third period, backhanding in a rebound beautifully top shelf! It was Jagr's 27th goal of the season.
Next game: 10th vs. Calgary, home, 7:00 p.m.
7th January 2006
The New York Rangers have not been lucky in home games as of late. Overtime periods have not often ended in favour of the Rangers either. Last night against the Flyers, Simon Gagne picked up the puck after the faceoff and scored just seconds into the period to hand the Rangers their third straight OT-loss.
Meyer, Johnsson and Savaged all had power play goals for the Flyers while the Rangers relied on even strength goals. Jagr, who was on fire in this game, set up Straka for a breakaway goal with a long pass in the first period. Prucha rifled in a shot in the same period and Jagr tied the game 3-3 with another great pass, setting up Straka from the left boards.
All in all, the Rangers performed well. Weekes surprisingly got to start in goal and made 19 saves.
Next game: 5th vs. Panthers, home, 1:00 p.m.
4th January 2006
The overtime goal was the lone goal of the game last night as the Rangers lost to the Lightning.
The Rangers produced 36 shots compared to 20 by the Lightning, but could not score on John Grahame. Lundqvist was very solid in the Rangers goal, but it was not enough as the Lightning battled hard and kept the Rangers from getting all too many dangerous scoring chances.
The away team also managed to shut down Jagr. He had four shots on goal, made some plays and had some scoring opportunities, but could not score.
Jagr has been named the NHL offensive player of the month in December! He recorded 22 points during the month, the most by any player.
Next game: 5th vs. Flyers, home, 7:00 p.m.
1st January 2006
The Penguins have started to look better lately, managing to beat the Rangers 4-3 in overtime yesterday and outshoot them 37-17.
Tomas Surovy was set up by Crosby for the first goal of the game. Before the first period was over, Jagr found the net with a hard one-timer on a five on three power play.
Midway through the second period Michel Ouellet scored the Pens first power play goal, but Rucinsky evend things up, recieving a nice cross-ice pass from Jagr and scoring on a wrist shot at 12:37.
Surovy had another goal in the third period but Rucinsky set up Tyutin for a power play shot that resulted in the 3-3 goal. In the overtime period Crosby won the game for Pittsburgh after Rozsvial had been penalized for delaying the game.
Jagr, who produced seven of the Rangers shots on goal, has ten points in his last four games, leading the league in scoring with 61 points.
Next game: 3rd vs. Lightning, home, 7:00 p.m.
29th December 2005
The Rangers faced the Islanders last night and won 6-2 with the first line stepping up and leading the way.
The Blue Shirts gave up two goals in the first period but finished the period with a 2-2 tie. Peter Prucha, the Rangers' young sniper, scored on a breakaway and Jagr scored on a rebound from a small angle for his 50th goal against the Islanders.
After a scoreless second period, the third period was all about the Rangers. At 6:13 Straka scored on a quick one-timer. Jagr fought for the puck behind the net and got his first assist of the night.
Tom Poti then picked up a Jagr shot that missed the net for the 4-2 goal.
Jaromir then set up Michael Nylander for a breakaway. Nylander was as patient as ever and finished with a well aimed shot. It was Jagr's fourth point of the night!
Straka scored another one before the game was over, assisted by Tyutin and Kasparaitis. The Rangers first line combined for 12 points and Lundqvist was solid in net, making 23 saves.
Next game: 31st vs. Penguins, away, 1:00 p.m.
27th December 2005
The mighty Ottawa Senators hosted the Rangers last night and gave them a little lesson in hockey, beating them 6-2.
Dany Heatley started the scoring early in the first period on a power play. Straka and Jagr then combined for the 1-1 goal. Jaromir brought the puck past the blueline, drew some attention to him before passing it to Straka who scored on a one-timer.
Peter Prucha still is the Rangers hottest goal scorer, scoring the Rangers second goal of the game at 7:51.
Alfredsson, Redden and Volchenkov then scored to end the first period 4-2 in favour of the Senators.
Lundqvist was brought in instead of Weekes. Lundqvist gave up a goal in each of the remaining periods.
Jaromir collided with Senators' Chris Kelly in the second period and could not play in the third period because of neck spasms. There is no info on Jaromir's status today.
Next game: 28th vs. Islanders, away, 7:00 p.m.
23rd December 2005
The losing streak came to an end as the Rangers won against the Lightning 4-2.
Henrik Lundqvist got a chance to play in goal and didn't disappoint, making 30 saves. With the Rangers creating some offense again, that proved enough.
Prucha scored on a Jagr pass at 11:23 in the first period. Straka then flipped a puck in on another power play, halfway through the second period.
Fedotenko and Richards had third period goals for Tampa Bay but Tom Poti scored the game-winner at 18:12. Straka and Jagr got the assists on this third power play goal of the game.
Set up by Jagr, Rucinsky added an empty-netter before the game was over. Jaromir, who only had two shots on goal, registered his third point of the game.
Next game: 26th vs. Senators, away, 7:30 p.m.
21st December 2005
With a new coach leading the way, the Devils beat the Rangers 3-1 last night, extending the Rangers losing streak to three games.
Steve Rucchin scored in the second period for the lone home team goal.
Jaromir was shut down, having just recorded one point in his last three games now. With Jagr not scoring or setting up goals, the cold hard truth is showing; that the rest of the team doesn't seem to have enough firepower to beat good teams.
Weekes made 29 saves and the Devils goals came at 14:19 and 14:35 in the third period.
Next game: 22nd vs. Lightning, home, 7:00 p.m.
19th December 2005
The Colorado Avalanche has not had the best defense or goaltending this season, but last night, against the Rangers they looked strong in both those aspects.
Joe Sakic scored twice in the second period. First he struck on a power play and then he scored on a penalty shot just 19 seconds later.
Ryan Hollweg scored on a Jagr rebound at 19:40 in the same period to give the crowd something to cheer about. Jaromir, who recently was voted the Czech athelete of the year, picked up his 800th career assist!!
Although the Rangers kept themselves out of the penalty box in the third period, they could not score on rookie goalie Vitaly Kolesnik, the game ending 2-1.
Next game: 20th vs. Devils, home, 7:00 p.m.
14th December 2005
Peter Prucha nearly saved the Rangers last night, scoring two goals in their loss to the Vancouver Canucks.
After a scoreless first period Bertuzzi scored a goal early in the second period. Seven minutes later Peter Prucha struck on the power play. Daniel Sedin wristed in a shot at 6:35 in the third period before Prucha had his second goal on a slap shot.
Matt Cooke spoiled the night, however, forcing in a puck in front of the net with less than five minutes to go in the game.
Jaromir, who was on the ice during Prucha's goal, but who did not get an assist on it, was held without points after scoring 7 points in his last two games. He had two shots on goal.
The Rangers now take a break, hosting the Avalanche on Sunday.
Next game: 18th vs. Avalanche, home, 5:00 p.m.
11th December 2005
The St. Louis Blues have not had the best of seasons this year. With a 5-4 overtime win the Rangers got the full two points, but the Blues skated well and it was more luck than skill that decided this game.
Tkachuk scored a first period power play goal for the Blues at 15:31. A minute later Jaromir gave the puck to Rucinsky. Rucinsky skated past the blue line in a one-on-one situation, but didn't try anything fancy. He rifled a slapshot past Lalime to tie the game.
Jason Strudwick scored for New York and Tkachuk had another one for St. Louis to have the second period end in a tie as well.
Midway through the third period Jagr scored his 22nd goal of the season, wristing a shot on goal that barely made it past the goalie. The teams continued to exchange goals. After Rycroft scored on a shorthanded breakaway, Prucha (who else?) scored the 4-3 goal on the power play. Jagr picked up another assist. Mike Sillinger scored one before the period was over to take the game to overtime.
In overtime Rucinsky's shot hit the end glass and bounced back at Lalime and into the net! Jaromir, who now already has 50 points, joked and described the goal as the ugliest goal he has ever seen! It was nevertheless a goal. One that gave the Rangers the extra valuable point.
Next game: 13th vs. Canucks, home, 7:00 p.m.
9th December 2005
The Rangers bounced back from the disappointing game against Chicago. Jagr led his team to a 5-1 victory to end the Nashville winning streak.
Jaromir started the scoring. Picking up a pass from Straka at the left circle, he made a quick fake to evade the defenseman, skated around the net and scored on a backhand wraparound.
Before the end of the period Jaromir gave the puck to Prucha who scored on a breakaway.
Steve Rucchin got a beautiful backhand pass from Jagr, scoring from in front of the net at 2:11 in the second period. Peter Prucha then struck again, one-timing the puck at 6:11. Rucchin added his seventh goal of the season midway through the period.
Perreault scored the 5-1 goal in the third period, but although the Predators produced more shots on goal, this game belonged to the Rangers. An impressive win which helped the Rangers stay the second best team in the Eastern Conference!
Next game: 10th vs. Blues, away, 8:00 p.m.
8th December 2005
Khabibulin stopped 30 shots, kept the Rangers to just one goal and lead his Blackhawks to a 2-1 overtime victory last night.
Peter Prucha had the lone Rangers goal. Set up by Nylander, the rookie wristed a shot past Khabibulin at 8:53 in the second period. Spacek scored one for Chicago about twenty seconds later.
In overtime, Tyler Arnason scored on the man-advantage to give the home team the extra point.
The Rangers had nine power plays but were not able to score on any of them. After the team started seeing the fact that only Jagr was scoring on the power play as a problem, the power play has been ineffective at times. The predictability was indeed becoming a problem, but Jagr can still shoot onetimers and it seems they are not quite using him as much as they could.
Jaromir, who was shut down, had 4 shots on goal and logged a lot of ice time. He has four assists and no goals in his last five games.
Next game: 8th vs. Predators, away, 8:00 p.m.
6th December 2005
The Rangers were back in action last night, beating the Wild 3-1.
The Minnesota team played tight defense, as expected. The Rangers were still able to generate 40 shots on goal, almost twice the amount the Wild did.
But it was the Rangers power play that became overwhelming for the Minnesota defense. Petr Prucha scored on a Jagr rebound at 4 minutes into the first period. Pascal Dupuis scored late in the second period to tie the game. On another power play, Peter Prucha stepped up again and scored another close to the net goal, assisted by Straka and Rucinsky. It was the rookie's 9th goal of the season!
Late in the third period Jagr, who had five shots on goal, had his second point of the game when he dug up the puck at the neutral zone boards and gave it to Straka for an empty-netter. Jaromir played on a line with Straka and Rucinsky.
Next game: 7th vs. Chicago, away, 8:30 p.m.
4th December 2005
The Washington Capitals ended the Rangers winning streak and did it with a firm 5-1 victory.
Alexander Ovechkin claimed the position as the leading rookie scorer in the NHL by scoring one goal and assiting on three.
The Rangers got a goal late in the third period. Prucha scoring on the power play, with Straka and Jagr getting the assists.
Kölzig definitely did his part of the Capitals victory, stopping 37 shots!
Jaromir and five shots on goal and played for a bit more than 22 minutes. The minor injury he suffered a week ago could still be bugging him at times. In his last three games he has had two points, not really too lucky with the goal scoring as of late.
Next game: 5th vs. Wild, home, 7:00 p.m.
2nd December 2005
With Weekes still injured, Lundqvist stepped up again, leading the Rangers to a 2-1 victory over the Penguins by stopping 35 shots.
Maxim Kondratiev got the scoring started in the first period. From the left corner boards, Jaromir got the puck to Rucchin, who got it to Kondratiev who scored with a shot that barely made it past Fleury.
Ryan Whitney scord with a wrist shot at 1:54 in the second period to give the Penguins some confidence, but nobody less than Marek Malik gave the Rangers the lead, scoring at 6:31.
The Penguins were held back for another period and the Rangers picked up two valuable points.
Jaromir had three shots on goal, played for nearly 22 minutes and was a +/- 1.
Next game: 3rd vs. Capitals, away, 7:00 p.m.
27th November 2005
Another game another victory! With Lundqvist solid in goal and the Rangers offense coming from not so proven scorers, things worked out just fine; the Rangers beating the Capitals 3-2 after the shootout.
Jason Ward scored on a shorthanded breakaway in the first period and Ortmeyer finished a Dominic Moore play in the second period.
Goals from Chris Clark and Brian Willsie forced the game to overtime. Jagr, who is known for playing with sticks that do not quite make the rules if tested, got an illegal stick penalty, but the overtime period ended scoreless.
The two big names, Jagr and Ovechkin both missed their shots and after a prolonged shootout, Marek Malik decided to try something special. Malik was probably getting tired of the shooting. His shot was in the 15th round of the shootout and he won the game for the Rangers by shooting a puck from between his skates and past Kölzig! Jaromir and the rest of the team were all laughs when Malik calmly skated back to center ice looking as chilled as ever.
Jaromir had three shots on goal in the game. He did create a few chances but was shut down by his former team.
Next game: 1st vs. Penguins, home, 7:00 p.m.
25th November 2005
When the game report was written there was not much info on the possible injury Jagr was fighting. Here's a quick update on the situation. As you know, Jaromir injured an abdominal muscle on Wednesday. The muscle is said to be strained, but except for a quick leave in the first period, Jagr played if not logging as much ice time as usually. "I can skate only a little. I didn't play (well) tonight and what impresses me most is we still won the game. I am happy about that." Jaromir commented.
Jagr will likely play to tomorrow against the Capitals. After that the Rangers have a little break, playing their next game first on 1st December, a well earned rest for Jaromir. Hopefully the injury will easen during the days away from playing.
See below for the game recap.
25th November 2005
The Rangers continued their winning streak, beating the Thrashers 6-3 after three goals in the second period.
Hossa got the Thrashers on the board at 6:38 in the first period. Jason Ward scored one for New York about six minutes later, set up by Nylander.
Early in the second period Jagr carried the puck behind the net, turned and threw a pass that Prucha managed to get into the net. Nylander then stepped up again, combining with Ward for another goal.
The Thrashers scored twice to tie the game before Jagr cut to the left after the blue line and wristed a shot that found its way through the screen of players and past the goalie. It was Jagr's league leading 21st goal.
Weekes injured his leg and Lundqvist had to replace him early in the third period. Lundqvist did not face too many shots but saved all that faced him. Blair Betts flipped one in for the Rangers at 8:09 and Ortmeyer finished the game with an empty-netter.
Jagr is now on a four-game scoring streak in which he has scored 10 points. Jaromir is of course not the only high scoring player this season. Forsberg, who has played five games less, is close behind and Ottawa has of course got Alfredsson leading the way with Heatley and Spezza close behind. Jaromir is in other words competing with players from the definite best teams in the NHL. The Flyers with huge offensive power and the Senators with, except for that, great goaltending and defense. With the new rules in the NHL it's not unlikely that some of those players actually could keep up with the scoring pace set in the first fourth of the season. On the same time, there are other dangerous players sneaking up from behind. Kovalchuk is scoring at a very high pace since resigning with the Thrashers and Staal has found his way to the top five again. Maybe even Thornton wants to step up and compete for the title?
Next game: 26th vs. Capitals, home, 8:00 p.m.
23th November 2005
Jaromir was quite a dominant force on the ice again as he lifted his team to a 3-2 win in overtime.
Chris Drury scored the first goal of the game, finishing a power play in the second period. At 12:56, Jagr blasted a one-timer past Noronen for his 20th goal of the season! Jaromir lifted his hands to the air to celebrate and there was no question about who was the king of the ice in this game.
Jay Mckee scored to give the Sabres the lead in the third period, but Nylander picked up a Jagr rebound at 15:46 to tie the game. After a scoreless overtime period, Jagr avoided Noronen's poke check and shot the puck into the left side of the net, winning the game for the Rangers!
Jaromir had 8 shots on goal and hit the post several times. With the two points, Jagr is now leading the league in points. Forsberg in second place, has, however, only played 20 games, compared to Jagr's 24.
Next game: 24th vs. Thrashers, away, 7:00 p.m.
21th November 2005
Jagr scored one goal and assisted on two to lead the Rangers to a 3-2 win last night.
After a scoreless first period Peter Prucha opened the scoring. Set up by Jagr, he fired a hard wrist shot that found its way past Hannu Toivonen in the Bruins net.
Murray scored one for the Bruins early in the third period, but Jagr tied the game on the power play, cutting in from the right circle, scoring with a wrist shot.
Two minutes later Jagr handed the puck to Nieminen who did most of the work himself on the game-winning goal. Patrice Bergeron had a power play goal for Boston a minute later but the road team did not manage any more scoring on Lundqvist.
Jagr had another good game, working hard in many aspects. He had five shots on goal and was a +/- 2.
Next game: 22nd vs. Sabres, away, 7:00 p.m.
19th November 2005
The Rangers met the Hurricanes again, this time on home ice.
Just like in their last meeting it was the home team that ended up with the win.
The Rangers first line produced the first goal of the game. Jagr passed the puck to Straka with a backhand pass from behind the net. Straka managed to get the puck into the net for his 3rd goal of the season.
Eric Staal scored midway through the first period and with five minutes to go in the period Nylander threw a shot on goal that went in with some help from the Hurricanes players.
Jagr set up Prucha for a power play goal at 9:22 in the second period, finding him at the left side of the post. At about the same time in the third period he set up Rozsival for another one! Nylander picked up his third and fourth point of the game with assists on the two goals.
Niklas Nordgren scored one midway through the third period to cut the lead to 4-2 and Williams scored with one and a half minute to spark some excitment. The Rangers did, however, manage to keep the Hurricanes from tieing the game, winning 4-3.
Jagr, who had a shot on goal each period, played well again and got the first star of the game award.
Next game: 19th vs. Bruins, home, 7:30 p.m.
18th November 2005
The Rangers had one of their worst performances of the season last night as the Hurricanes took a 5-1 victory.
Nylander was the Rangers lone goal scorer. Nylander stole the puck late in the first period to tie the game.
The Rangers defense didn't quite work and the Hurricanes held the Jagr and his line from getting any room.
Jagr had four shots on goal and was a +/- -3. He logged only 17:19 of ice time.
Lundqvist played well in the first period but finished making 22 saves on 27 shots.
The Rangers now travel back home, having finished the 5-game road trip.
Next game: 19th vs. Hurricanes, home, 1:00 p.m.
16th November 2005
Eric Lindros faced his old team for the first time as the Maple Leafs and the Rangers met last night.
Bryan MacCabe scored a power play goal in the first period.
In the second period Nylander made some quick moves behind the Leafs' net before he set up Jagr for a quick one-timer. It was Jagr's lead leading 18th goal and it came on his 100th shot!
The game followed a one goal a period system and McCabe stepped up again to give the Leafs the 2-1 win.
The Rangers outshot the home team with 28-24, with Jagr producing six of those.
Next game: 17th vs. Hurricanes, away, 7:00 p.m.
13th November 2005
The Rangers faced off against the Penguins again last night, and this time they weren't ready to make the Penguins look good.
Jed Ortmeyer opened the scoring when he stole the puck in the offensive zone and beat Thibault in the Penguins net.
In the second period Jagr made sure to introduce himself to the crowd even if they probably didn't think an introduction was necessary. Jagr skated away from his coverage, to get in a perfect position to score with a one-timer on the offensive rush. Jason Ward made a good pass and Tom Poti picked up his first assist of the game. After the goal, Jaromir stayed on the ice, picked up the puck at mid-ice, skated up the left wing and wristed a shot top corner before anybody could see it coming.
Recchi had a goal for the Penguins before the period was over. It was the only goal that Weekes, who made 23 saves, gave up.
Steve Rucchin spoiled any hope the Penguins had left by scoring twice in the third period and Jagr completed the night by scoring a hat-trick on a late power play! The game ended 6-1.
Jaromir is now tied for the league lead in goals with 17 and he is just one shot from having registered 100 shots on goal already! The tendency of shootig more really seems to be working out!
Next game: 15th vs. Maple Leafs, away, 7:30 p.m.
11th November 2005
Playing back-to-back the Rangers were able to beat the Lightning 5-2, grabbing four points during their visit in Florida.
Nieminen scored at 11:14 in the first period. St. Louis, who although is scoring isn't quite on the same kind of pace as last season, scored to tie the game in the second period.
The rest of the game belonged to the Rangers. In the third period Jason Ward had a goal at 4:40 and Dominic Moore scored twice before Hossa added the empty-netter to finish the game.
Only 45 shots on goal were created in the game. The Rangers managed 20 of them. The Rangers showed they can play well even without Jagr producing, as Jaromir was shut down, registering only one shot on goal.
Next game: 12th vs. Penguins, away, 7:30 p.m.
10th November 2005
The Rangers won 4-3 against the Panthers, the last goal meaning a shootout victory.
It was Peter Prucha who yet again lifted his team to the win on the penalty shots. Prucha scored on the last Rangers penalty shot and was the only player to score a goal.
Lundqvist was back in the Rangers net and faced 41 shots.
The Rangers goals were scored by Rucchin, Straka and Moore. Moore's game-tier came with just three seconds to go in regulation! Jagr had assists on Rucchin's and Straka's goal.
Next game: 10th vs. Lightning, away, 7:30 p.m.
8th November 2005
Jagr's 12-game point streak came to an end as the Penguins got a rare win, beating the Rangers 3-2.
Lemieux, Crosby and Palffy all had goals for the Pens. The Rangers started their scoring first in the third period when Ryan Hollweg blasted on in. Hossa scored the Rangers second goal of the game.
Jaromir had 8 shots on goal and logged a lot of ice time, but with nothing to show up for it.
The Rangers had 37 shots on goal compared to the Pensguins' Caron, who did a very good job stopping the Rangers offense.
Next game: 9th vs. Panthers, away, 7:00 p.m.
6th November 2005
The Rangers came back from being down by two goals midway through the game to beating the Devils 3-2 after a shootout.
After a scoreless first period Gionta had two goals in the second period, but the home team cut the lead to on goal with a power play goal from Prucha. Jagr's continued his scoring streak by setting up the goal.
The Rangers dominated the third period. Jaromir had 10 shots on goal in the game and most of them came in the third period. Jagr looked very determined on the ice but was stopped by Clemmensen in the Devils goal time after time. But the Rangers did not need a Jagr goal. Blair Betts stepped up midway through the period to tie the game.
The overtime period was scoreless and the game had to be decided on a shootout.
Jagr made a nice move on his attempt, the third round of the shooting, but hit the post! With Weekes making the save Prucha stepped up again and scored to give the Rangers the valuable extra point.
Next game: 7th vs. Penguins, home, 7:00 p.m.
4th November 2005
The best team in the New York area this season is not the Devils or the Islanders, but the Rangers! The Blueshirts took another step towards keeping things that way by beating the Devils 4-2 last night.
Langenbrunner stole the puck on a power play in the first period to score the first goal of the game and Brian Gionta scored a goal on a Devils power play in the third period. Those were the only two goals allowed by Kevin Weekes, who had a solid performance in the Rangers goal, saving 30 shots.
Nylander had the Rangers first goal. Set up by Straka on the power play. Jagr then poked a bouncing puck past a defenseman and beat the Devils goalie to keep his scoring streak alive. Jagr also set up Nylander for a goal in the second period and added an empty-net goal in the third period. Jaromir continues to be a very consistent producer, still only shut down in one game!
Next game: 5th vs. Devils, home, 1:00 p.m.
1st November 2005
The Rangers hosted the Canadiens and waited with the scoring till the third period. The home team was only able to produce one goal and fell 4-1 to the energetic Canadiens.
The two first periods were filled with penalties. 8 of the 12 penalties belonged to the Rangers. The team yet again did a good job on the penalty killing. Jaromir made an amazing backhand pass to Nylander in the first period, but Theodore made a good save on Nylander's shot. Jagr also made a nice deke to create an opportunity for himself in the first period and in the second period he had a shot hit the post! Lundqvist did an excellent job in the two first periods to keep the Rangers in the game.
It was Craig Rivet who started the scoring the third period. His shot was seemingly deflected in by Koivu.
Jagr, who had six shots on goal, answered with another power play blast at 9:40. His 13th goal of the season! Jaromir has been very consistent at picking up points this year, only having been shut down once, against the Devils on 8th October.
Steve Begin scored a shorthanded goal. Kovalev used his proved shooting ability at 16:14 for another Montreal goal and Niklas Sundström scored an empty-netter at 19:23.
Next game: 3rd vs. Devils, away
30th October 2005
Henrik Lundqvist has just a month into the season already made himself the Rangers' number one goalie. Lundqvist saved 38 shots as the Rangers ended the Canadiens winning streak by beating them 5-2 in Montreal.
Dominic Moore used speed and determination to get around a defenseman, made a cut to in front of the goal and score the first Rangers goal of the game. An impressive effort by the 25-year-old.
Midway through the first period Straka carried the puck over the blueline. Nylander was handed the puck and he spotted Jagr who frenetically tapped his stick to the ice. Nylander made the pass to Jagr, whose shot barely made it past Theodore. It was Jagr's 11th goal of the season.
A minute later Rucinsky scored the 3-0 goal from a narrow angle.
Yann Danis replaced Theodore in the remaining two periods. The Canadiens really found their game in the third period, scoring twice, but the Rangers answered with goals from Rucchin and another one from Moore.
Jaromir had just two shots on goal and played for 19:21 minutes.
Next game: 31st vs. Canadiens @ home, 7:00 p.m.
28th October 2005
Two goals in the first period gave the Rangers the confidence to hold the Islanders off for the rest of the game, beating them 3-1 after a late empty-net goal.
The Rangers immediately got two power play opportunities, but they could not score, DiPietro impressive in goal as usually.
At 13:22, on another power play, Jaromir set Straka up with a nice pass from the right corner for Martin's first goal of the season.
The Rangers scored again three minutes later, Nylander passing the puck to Jagr. Jagr's shot produced a rebound that ended up a goal, scored by Fedor Tyutin. It was Jaromir's 17th point in his 11th game and it extended his point-streak to 8 games! Jaromir did not log a lot of ice time, not playing many shifts in the third period. Jaromir had a breakaway in the second period but was taken down (no penalty awarded).
Chris Campoli had a goal in the third period and Blair Bets scored the Rangers' empty-netter.
Henrik Lundqvist was very solid in goal, saving 32 shots, and this game will definitely have to make the coaching staff reconsider Weekes as the first goalie.
Next game: 29th vs. Canadiens @ Away
23rd October 2005
The Buffalo Sabres were able to beat the Rangers 3-1, handing the Rangers their second straight non-overtime loss.
Nylander had the lone Rangers' goal, set up by Jagr on a 2-1 situation. Jaromir made a move to his backhand to evade the defenseman and gave the puck to Nylander who made no mistake.
With the point, Jagr extended his point streak to seven games.
Altough Jagr had six shots on goal, his team could not produce scoring opportunities the way they have in games as of late. In the second period, Briere and Fitzpatrick scored a goal each, and Alex Kotalik scored the Sabres' second power play goal of the night in the third period.
The Rangers now take a break, meeting with the Islanders again on Thursday.
Next game: 27th vs. Islanders @ home
21st October 2005
Jaromir had a hat trick, his first for the Rangers, as the Islanders grabbed a 5-4 win last night.
Kevin Weekes was back in goal and got a terrible start of the game. The Islanders scored on their first three shots on goal. Weekes was, however, not pulled and looked quite solid for the rest of the game. But the Rangers had to battle uphill and if it hadn't been for Jagr scoring twice late in the period the game would probably not have been too exciting. From his new power play position in the slot Jaromir wristed in a power play goal. Wíth just seconds to go Jagr then got a pass from Straka from behind the net and with the goalie out of position, Jaromir made no mistake.
Arron Asham scored a shorthander at 1:47 in the second period, but Rucinsky took the Rangers back into the game with his second point of the night and his 11th point of the season!
Parrish scored another early period goal in the third period. Jagr gave the Rangers some hope back scoring his third of the night on a wrist shot from the left circle, his 12th career hat trick!
There was unfortunately not enough time left for the Rangers to take this one into overtime, the game ending 5-4 to the home team.
With the hat trick, Jagr has now 10 goals and 14 points in 9 games! Straka has also made a big impact, assisting on 11 goals!
It doesn't, however, seem as if Jaromir is taking full advantage of the new rules yet. He is working very well in the offensive zone, playing well with Nylander, Straka and Rucinsky, but he should be able to create more counter attacks and offensive opportunities as well as occasionally getting a breakaway or two himself. 14 points, and especially 10 goals, is amazing, but the race for the Art Ross will with certainty be tough this year and if Forsberg continues his great chemistry with Gagne in Philadelphia Jagr will have to step up another notch to win it.
Next game: 22nd, at Buffalo @ 7:30 pm
20th October 2005
The Rangers lost their first shootout game of the season last night, as the Islanders got a rare victory over their New York rivals.
Yashin scored on a rebound to put the Islanders in the lead in the first period.
The Rangers dominated the second period but could not score on DiPietro.
In the third period Jagr, who had nine shots on goal, scored on a long shot that an Islanders player deflected into his own net. It was Jagr's seventh goal and his eleventh point of the season.
Peter Prucha scored his second goal of the season to take the game to a scoreless overtime. The Islanders finished the Rangers off in the shootout and Jagr missed his shot as his stick broke while finishing his move with a wrist shot.
Next game: 20th, Islanders 7:00 pm
18th October 2005
Henrik Lundqvist had his first shutout as the Rangers continued winning, beating Luongo and the Panthers 4-0.
Lundqvist yet again looked stable in the New York goal, making 23 saves. Luongo and McLennan had to fight off 49 shots, with almost 40 shots in the first two periods.Tyutin scored the Rangers' first goal, finishing a power play shot bombardment.
In the second period Jagr took advantage of two five-on-three situations, scoring nearly identical goals, both on onetimers from the high slot. Both assisted by Straka and Rucinsky.
Jaromir is yet to score an even strength goal! While that might make you feel uncomfortable, what means the most is still probably that he is scoring! Jaromir is known for scoring most of his goals on even strength, so it's likely he is just having bad luck with his even strength plays, backing it up with some power play goals instead!
Peter Prucha, the 23 year old Czech, scored his first goal in the NHL a few minutes after Jagr's second goal, finishing a two-on-one by himself, to make the final score 4-0
The Rangers' defense did a very good job both at keeping Lundqvist from all too many tough situations and at getting the puck up to the offense. The penalty killing did an outstanding job too, now ranked fourth in the NHL with 90.2 percent.
Next game: 19th, Wednesday against Islanders @ home, 7:00 PM.
16th October 2005
The game review was unfortunately lost during the 10-18 update.
14th October 2005
The Rangers ended their losing-streak by beating the Devils 4-1; an impressive effort from a team that didn't seem to work effective at all just a couple of days ago.
Rucinsky opened up the scoring when he threw a puck at Brodeur midway through the firstperiod.
Nieminen had his first goal as a Ranger less than 20 seconds later, scoring on a backhander after the puck had been stolen from the Devils' defensemen.
Blair Betts introduced himself by scoring the last goal of the terrific first period, scoring on a rebound after Straka had carried the puck to the Devils' goal.
The second period was more even and neither team were able to score.
In the third period Brian Gionta somehow managed to get the puck behind the Rangers' impressive goaltender Lundqvist, before Jagr turned up as the power play sniper, scoring yet another goal from the right wing circle, beating Brodeur with a wrist shot.
Straka had two assists in the game and his now tied with Jagr for six points. Straka is, however, yet to score a goal.
10th October 2005
The Blueshirts played their first afternoon game of the season against the Capitals in Washington. The Capitals, another team rebuilding the team with young talents didn't look too dangerous in the roster lineup and many were probably hoping it would be merely a warmup before the Devils game on Thursday.
The Rangers came out strong early in the first period but the period ended scoreless. Jagr created some excitement when he blasted in a shot 2 minutes into the second period for his third goal of the season on the power play.
Sykora answered just minutes later with the 1-1 goal just to see Jason Ward put the Rangers on top with the seemingly last goal of the period. However, with just seconds to go in the period Jagr was checked hard and had the puck stolen from him. The Rangers' defensive zone looked empty as Steve Eminger scored his first ever NHL goal with just one second to go!
Jagr and the Rangers continued to produce in the third period, but suffered a five-on-three penalty killing mid-period on which Ovechkin scored his third goal of the season to put the Caps on top, 3-2.
New York got a couple of power plays, but the Caps played well on the penalty killing and Kölzig was excellent in goal, stopping Jagr with a great save with Weekes pulled from the Rangers' goal. The Caps picked up two deserved points and showed that they can be a solid team even without having a star packed team.
Jaromir had 9 shots on goal, logged a lot of ice time and was busy producing scoring chances most of the game but when things got dangerous Kölzig was there to calm things down.
The power play didn't look too creative with Jagr firing shots from the right wing and not much in the way of side to side puck movement or variation in the plays.
All in all, a painful loss, and this time around the Rangers didn't get that extra OT point to relief the disappointment.
Next game: 13th vs. New Jersey, 7:00 p.m.
9th October 2005
Henrik Lundqvist made his debut in the Rangers' goal as the team posted another overtime loss.
Lundqvist didn't exactly give up any easy goals, but Brodeur definitely beat him, stopping 33 shots from the Blue Shirts.
Jason Ward scored the Rangers' goal in the first period but Kozlov evened things up with a goal at 15:39 into the game. The Rangers definitely had the edge in the first two periods, keeping the Devils to just 8 shots on goal. They also had several power plays opportunities but could just score on one. Jaromir helped set up the goal, but Nylander and Straka were the ones who had the last touches before Rucinsky beat Broduer at halfway through the second period. Jaromir logged 25:13 ice time and had four shots on goal.
Mogilny spoiled the lone third period goal and Rafalski scored in overtime for his third point of the game, making the final score 3-2.
Next game: Mon, 10th @ Washington 1:00 p.m.
7th October 2005
The Rangers first game in the Garden ended in a 3-4 loss in overtime.
Hossa scored his second goal of the season, finishing a nice passing play with Straka and Rucchin just a minute into the game.
Later in the period the Rangers recorded two of their total 22 penalty minutes in the game and Montreal tied it up with a goal from Michael Ryder.
Higgins scored one to put the Canadiens in the lead, but Rucinsky made things even at 16:57 into the period. Nylander and Jagr had assists on the goal.
The second period belonged to Montreal, producing the double amount of shots the Rangers did. The home team, which still has done well in power plays and penalty killing, were able to tie things up with a PP goal late in the third period. Dominic Moore scored with assists from Tyutin and Rucchin.
Both teams managed one shot each on goal in overtime, but Ryder again managed to get the puck past Weekes to hand the Canadiens the extra point.
Next game: Thu. 8th against Devils, away @ 7:30 PM
6th October 2005
The Rangers got a nice start of the season, beating the Flyers on the road, 5-3.
Both of the big names made an impact, but Jaromir spoiled Forsberg's first period with two power play goals in the third period.
The Rangers got the first goal of the game. Working the puck in the offensive zone, Nylander got the puck to Jason Strudwick who fired one past Esche. Jaromir picked up an assist on the goal.
The rest of the first period and in part the mid period belonged to the home team. After the second period Philadelphia was up 3-2, with Forsberg having set up two of the goals!
Jagr, who had two penalties in the game, struck with both the game-tier and the game-winner. Both goals on the power play, both goals on hard wrist shots from his hideout on the right wing. The Rangers
Newly acquired, Marcel Hossa, gave the Rangers the definite edge with the 5-3 goal.
Jagr produced 5 shots in his first game of the season and was on the ice during four of the five Rangers goals, recording a +/- 2. He seems to work just as well with Nylander as he did in Washington. Straka and Rucinsky definitely seems to fit in nicely with Jaromir as well.
Next game: Montreal @ home 7:00 PM
3rd October 2005
Having lost four of their five preseason games, the Rangers tried hard to at least not close the preseason with another loss, last night against the Devils.
Jagr again scored on a beautiful idividual effort, picking up the puck at center ice, racing past McGillis to score on Brodeur with just minutes to go in the third period, making the game end 3-2 in favour of the Rangers. Jaromir played well alongside Nylander and Rucinsky.
On Wednesday Jagr will face off against Forsberg. The Rangers will meet one of the most interesting, and likely dangerous, teams of the season. A win would definitely give the young New York team some much needed confidence.
Check back on Thursday morning for a full review of the game.
30th September 2005
The start of the NHL 2004-2005 is coming closer and it was definitly about time we let you know we are alive.
Four preseason games have been played already. The first game, against the Islanders, resulted in a 5-1 loss.
In the second game, the Rangers looked stronger, beating the Bruins 4-2, with Jagr in the lead, scoring two goals and assisting once.
The New Jersey Devils kept the scoring low, beating the Rangers 3-1 on Tuesday.
Last night, the Rangers fell again, but came close to tieing things up. Jagr scored the lone goal, his third goal of the preseason, on a nice move in the first period. The game ended 3-2.
The first game of the real season will be played on the road against the Flyers on 5th October.
27th July 2005
The NHL will restart in October, but it might be without Jaromir.
Avangard Omsk would like to have their biggest star stay and Jaromir is not sure whether he wants to leave.
The question is not why Jagr would want to stay, the question is rather why he would want to return to the NHL.
In Russia he would earn a salary quite comparable to his NHL salary, the Russian league is more offensive and probably more fun to play in and playing in the Russian league must be much easier mentally especially since he would not have to deal with the stressing and often seemingly ill willed American media.
Still, he must have a strong urge to play in the NHL. The NHL will probably be the best league in the world next season too and could he really give up winning another Stanley cup, having pursued it for so many years since the early 90's?
Personally, I would not mind him playing in Russia. The amount of news supplied in English, not to talk about actual TV coverage or highlights, still makes me hope he will choose the NHL.
More news in the coming weeks.
16th May 2005
My wishes after the Kazakhstan game did fullfill themselves! Not only did the Czech Republic make it to the gold game, but they also won, 3-0 against Canada, to claim the gold!!
Both teams seemed scared to make mistakes and both teams played quite defensively, something that led to a somewhat bad flow in the game at times, but just more than four minutes into the game, Jaromir carried the puck up the right wing, stopped and moved the puck to get a clear pass to in front of the net. The puck eventually ended up in front of the goal and Prospal scored the most awaited 1-0 goal.
The Czechs used their thight defense and their incredible skill on the offensive rushs to prevent Canada to get the game to where they wanted. Hlavac made a nice deke to create one of the most dangerous situations in the first period, but Brodeur was solid in goal.
Canada got some more pressure on the Czechs in the second period, but Vokoun was excellent. The second period was scoreless.
The third period featured two goals. Jagr, who still must have been bugged by his hand injury, had some opportunities in the game and seemed motivated but didn't create too many shots himself. Instead he took the role of a playmaker creating many great plays. Jaromir made a perfect hard pass to Rucinsky from the right boards. Rucinky's shot was just as perfect, swishing past Brodeur below his right hand.
Brodeur was pulled late in the third period but that did not help the Canadians who showed their frustration by taking a couple of roughing penalties. But by that the game was since long decided. The Czechs knew how to beat Canada and while confident as always, Canada didn't find a way to create the kind of offense that would have been needed.
Jaromir became the first Czech to win the Champs, the Stanley Cup and the Olympics. He said that they won becuase they had the luck on their side. Rick Nash of Canada said that they could have beaten the Czechs on "any other given night". The Czech Republic has been able to beat Canada in most games the last few years, it's rather other teams that have caused problems in the World Champs, so it's hard to see what he based that opinion on. Canada has had a lot of luck winning the World Championships the last couple of years and maybe they were getting a bit too confident. It was, nevertheless, definitely the better team that won the game.
Jaromir ended the tournament with 9 points in 8 games and it's questionable whether the Czechs would have gone all the way if his injury would have forced him to leave the tournament.
Let's hope that he is motivated for another gold medal, in case he gets the chance to play in the tournament again. Nothing else to say now than: Congratulations Czech Republic!!!
6th May 2005
The Czechs beat Kazakhstan 1-0 in the last game of the preliminary round.
Ales Hemsky was the lone goal scorer yesterday and the team continues to struggle with the offense, scoring just 6 goals in the round.
Milin Hnilicka was impressive in goal, stopping 16 shots.
Jagr did not dress up for the game but it seems as if he could be back for the game on Saturday against Slovakia. The Czechs will play Russia on Sunday and Belarus on Tuesday. The Czechs definitely will need to increase their level a little to beat the Slovaks and the Russians. Belarus has caused trouble for big teams before, so the Czechs are nowhere in the quarter finals just yet.
I will unfortunately not be able to make any more updates until the games for the bronze and the gold. Hopefully the Czechs will make it that far this time!
5th May 2005
Jaromir is not playing in the game against Kazakhstan today.
Jaromir left yesterday for the Czech Republic to have treatment for his injured finger. There is definitely a risk Jaromir will not come back for the tournament. If the finger is bad enough it needs surgery he will miss the whole tournament. Stefan Schauer, the German player who slashed Jaromir, said in an interview to the IHWC website that the slash was not intentionally made and that he wishes Jagr all the best.
4th May 2005
It was a tight game but the Czechs came out as the winners, beating Germany 2-0. Pavel Kubina scored the 1-0 goal in the first period.
Jagr passed the puck to Kubina who one-timed the puck for a power play goal.
The Germans had several opportunities to tie the game before Sykora scored with a wrist shot, that was deflected in, with just six minutes to go in the game. Germany played a smart defensive system, but were not able to get the necessary scoring.
The most unforutnate thing with the game was that Jagr had to leave the game early in the second period. Jaromir was slashed by Stefan Schauer and seems to have broken the pinkie of his left hand. He was brought to the hospital for examination. How bad the injury really is will hopefully soon be known. Jaromir has before played with an injured hand and a broken pinkie still must be a lot better than a broken thumb. So hopefully Jaromir will be back quite soon.
1st May 2005
The Czech Republic opened the World Championships with a game against Switzerland today.
The Czechs had a strong first period, dominating the Swiss team. Prospal scored on a backhand move early in the period and the Swiss defense gave Jaromir too much room on the power play, letting him strike with a well aimed wristshot. Blindenbacher scored for Switzerland just minutes later and the Swiss team got confidence and started taking more and more room.
The Czechs looked disorganized at times, not quite playing the way they did in the first period. Frantisek Kaberle fired a slapshot for the 3-1 goal in the third period to make the final score look better.
Canada and Russia also had problems handling their opponents so the smaller hockey countries really are showing that they are going to give the big teams a match.
Germany will have to face Jagr and the Czech on Tuesday.
27th April 2005
The Czech team played two games against Finland in the Euro hockey tour last weekend. Jaromir played in the game that was held in the Czech Republic. The game ended in a 3-3 tie. The Finns got some easy goals and the Czech goaltending was not very impressive. Offensively the Czechs had the edge. Jaromir was not too impressive on the ice and did not log too much ice time, which is understandable. His best chance and maybe his only real opportunity to score was on a semi-breakaway.
The second game was played in Finland and the Czech goaltending, with Milan Hnilicka in goal this time, was again disappointing. The Finns won the game 4-0 and Nicklas Bäckström had an amazing 41 saves. Jagr as well as a couple of other players did not play.
The Czechs will test Canada tomorrow. Their first game in the tournament is on 1st May against Switzerland. Other teams in their group are Kazakhstan and Germany. Kazakhstan plays the East European technical hockey while Germany is known for their more North American style. The Germans will not be that easy to beat with their strong and tough trapping style.
15th April 2005
Jagr has now definitely confirmed that he will play in the World Championships and he is joining the Czech team this weekend!
Jaromir said last year that the World Championships in Prague most likely was his last time playing in the tournament, but he could not expect that the NHL was going to cancel the whole season. Now Jaromir is coming to the tournament in good shape after quite a succesful season in the Russian league which ended in the semi-finals.
Expect game recaps of the Czech Republic games here on TUJJS. Unfortunately I will be unable to access the website during part of the second group round and the playoffs so there will not be any updates for those games, except for the finals, if the Czech manage to take themselves that far!
The Czech team will definitely be the favorite for the gold, with other nations having had a hard time to get the real super stars to join.
As you surely know by now, Jaromir has also agreed on a new contract with Avangard Omsk for next season. In other words, if there is not an NHL season next year either, Jaromir will rejoin the Omsk team.
16th February 2005
It took more than 150 days for the NHL and the NHLPA to agree on at least one thing; that there would be no 2004-2005 season.
There has been quite a few negotiation rumors and actual negotiations to write about lately, but after the first few deals didn't work out, it was not hard to understand the two sides were not capable of agreeing to a deal. Therefore I grew tired of the silly negotiations, waiting with an update till a decision actually was made.
The two sides did come reasonably close in the end. The NHL offered a $42,5 million salary cap as their final offer and the NHLPA responded with a $49 million one as a counter-offer.
6,5 million is not that huge a gap. By simply connecting the offers the salary cap would be 45,75 million, a sum I can't realize how the NHL and NHLPA could not agree to.
You could argue that the NHL teams would still be losing money with such a salary cap, but in the end, it's the teams themselves that have been paying too high salaries. With a salary cap of even $49 million there would at least have been a maximum budget for the teams that truly have no self-discipline when it comes to signing players and renegotiating player contracts.
Even if teams like the Rangers have seemingly endless amounts of money, they could not sign more than a couple of players to 7-12 million contracts, and so the players would end up having to accept contracts of other teams. Some players are of course more stubborn than others, but after a season or two in Europe playing for many times less the money, they would return if they really were interested in the NHL.
In that sense, even the $49 million deal would eventually have led to a much better economy for the teams.
But the NHL wanted a fool proof system and the NHLPA was not ready to see the player salaries lowered that much without hope of them increasing. I'm personally astonished the NHLPA did agree to a salary cap in the end and I truly thought the actual sum of the salary cap, especially when it came to a few millions more or less, was that important to the NHL.
But at least, finally we got the final decision!
For fans of NHL players in the European leagues this came as a good surprise. At least there should be more NHL players in the World Championships... whether that is a good thing is questionable but left for us to see!
21st January 2005
Although the recent meetings between a limited group of members of the NHL and the NHLPA gave us some hope in the beginning, nothing seems to have changed.
It all makes you wonder what on earth they are really doing at these long meetings. What's the meaning with presenting offers to each other if both sides have prior to the meeting decided that they will not compromise on their old standpoints? Or in other words, if the NHL will not accept anything without a salary cap and the NHLPA will not accept a deal that involves one, how could a deal be worked out?
8th January 2005
The NHL meeting on the 14th was cancelled and so the NHL season will not any more be decided on a known date. There are rumors that parts of the two sides are showing signs of wanting to consider the offers of the opposing side. None of the sides wants to confess on that.
It's not likely the two organizations would become so much more understanding of each other next season. Both sides must be interested in ending the lockout as soon as possible. The owners could of course create a new league, one with a salary cap, but the NHL players are saying they would not play in such a league and although young talents from all over the world might want to join the league if the salary is good enough, it would take many many years before it could be comparable to what the NHL was, if that level will ever be achieved.
The best solution for both parts is to agree to a deal right now. This is also the time when any of the parts can become the hero. If the NHL agrees to the essential parts of the NHLPA offer, the owners will become the ones that in the end cared for hockey and the NHL league. If the players on the other hand would agree to a salary cap the owners are going to be the gready selfish part that only cared about the NHL as a business.
25th December 2004
As you've probably all read by now, if you haven't been completely busy with Christmas duties, the NHL will have their likely final meeting on 14th January. In 1995 the lockout ended on 11. January, but this time around the parts seem to do their best to prove that they haven't become any less greedy as the years have passed in the country where money is everything.
15th December 2004
The NHL rejected the offer of the NHLPA and the NHLPA didn't want to discuss their counter offer, one that included a salary cap. The two sides remain stubborn, with especially the NHL owners now seemingly not wanting to compromise enough.
Time is running out for the NHL season. The season will have to begin in about a month to get the 2005-2006 season started.
10th December 2004
The NHLPA presented its new offer to the NHL during the meeting on Thursday and earlier today. Bettman said that the NHL organization does not want to comment on the deal before Tuesday, next week, when they formally respond to the NHLPA.
It is believed that the NHL would rather see a whole new salary system than just a lowering of the average salaries, which the NHLPA seems to want to work for.
3rd December 2004
The NHL and the NHLPA has finally agreed to start negotiating again. They will meet next week on Thursday and Friday in Toronto. Hopefully the two sides will not be blinded by their greed this time so that the negotiations will include more than just the standpoints of the two sides. The two sides will need to compromise to be able to agree to a deal.
Considering the NHL players' salaries have been too high for the owners to keep up with I'm especially hoping for an improvement from the NHLPA.
1st December 2004
As you've noticed there have not been any game recaps of Jagr's games for the Omsk hockey team. It is not very convenient to have so few sources for info, and with all of them being Russian it's not easy to get an accurate picture of the games. We have therefore put the recap updates on hold.
13th November 2004
Jaromir landed in Omsk yesterday and was presented to his new team at a press coference.
8th November 2004
With rumors having been around for quite some time, Jagr has now made the move to the Russian league and the Omsk team. The value of his contract is not known, but it is higher than Kovalhchuk's $1,9 million deal.
With Jaromir playing in Russia, information will be even harder to come by for us. So again, if somebody is willing to provide us with info about Jagr's games, please contact us as soon as possible. You don't need good knowledge of English.

We are looking for somebody who would like to write either recaps of Jaromir's games in the Czech league, posted the day after the game day, or somebody who could write weekly updates, likely including short game recaps, of the games Jagr has played in.
Help from somebody who actually gets to see the games would be most appreciated, but all Czech speaking people who are able to gather information from the net, newspapers and magazines are welcome.
No website coding knowledge is needed and if your English is not too sharp we will work around that as well.
Contact us with any questions.

Jagr will, somewhat surprisingly, play for Kladno in the Czech league this season. Not too long ago he said that he had not been negotiating at all about playing for his home town, but that if he did not go to Russia, he might play in his home country.
Jaromir will start skating as soon as his hip injury is healed.
A recap disappeared and the website did not look correct. Now the problems are resolved.

The Czechs were on a roll, rebounding from a weak start in the tournament, but Canada was eventually able to stop them, winning 4-3 in overtime last night.
If it had not been for some really good goaltending from Luongo, the Canadians would not have made it. The Czechs were showing their Eastern European hockey style, making good passing plays and nice moves. Canada was playing energetic hockey, but did not have nearly as much puck control.
Jaromir played well, at least in the first period, but did not get any points to show up for it.
Canada did not have the same firepower the Czechs had, but were still able to get the pucks in. Still, Vokoun can't be blaimed. He made many good saves, stopping Canada twice on breakaway opportunities.
I was certain Kris Draper's nice slap shot goal late in the third period was the game-winner, but the Czechs were yet again able to come back less than ten seconds later when Elias struck.
The Czech Republic dominated the overtime period, and it must have come as a shock to the team when Lecavalier took his own rebound to score on a high shot. Canada's only opportunity in the period.
A well flowing game with quite a bit of excitement, but a huge disappointment for the Czech NHL veterans.
Canada will meet Finland on Tuesday evening. Canada could not compete with the Czech Republic in pure skill. Still, they won. Finland has not got nearly the same skill, but if they play as well as in every other game this tournament, Canada might be beaten by will, energy and a well working defensive system.
11th September 2004
Jaromir Jagr did not practice yesterday, being bugged by a hip injury since the first game in the tournament against Finland. Whether he will play or not will be a game time decision. The game will either way be tough against a Canadian team that has impressed all tournament long.
Finland will be in the World Cup finals after beating USA 2-1 last night. The game was fast paced, defensive and hard checking. There was not much room for playing the puck up the ice. Instead the teams had to dump the pucks in and chase them down. In other words, Finland won the game by playing the way the USA does.
Some minutes into the first period Finland seemed to be having the upper hand, but advancing into the game, the USA took over more and more and if it hadn't been for some solid goaltending by Kiprusoff the Finns might not have been able to allow just one goal. The goal was scored on a power play; Dough Weight redirecting a good pass into the net.
But Finland came back strong in the third period. Jokinen, who is stepping up as Finland's maybe biggest offensive star, scored after Finland had put some pressure on the American goalie, and Koviu, who had missed a couple of good chances earlier in the game nicely hauled in the puck at the right side of the net, before Esche was able to turn and block the angle.
8th September 2004
Jaromir's injury was announced to be an abdominal muscle injury. He rested simply to not aggravate it and risk the semis.
7th September 2004
It was not the most exciting of games. But after all the heartbreaking quarter final losses the Czechs have suffered in recent World Championships, it was nice with a change.
The Czech Republic beat Sweden 6-1, with the Swedes never being able to come close enough for what is good for a game. After the first period the game was already 2-0. Sweden scored their goal first late in the third period.
The Czechs scoring was created by a number of different players; with Hejduk, who has not been too impressive, scoring twice. Many of the goals were results of nice passing plays. Still, you can't say they dominated the game. They were controlling the game and when good opportunities were created they made the best out of them.
Jaromir had a couple of chances but did not play quite as well as against Germany and did not pick up any goals or assists. Even more unfortunate was that he left the game early in the third period, probably with a back injury. It is not known how bad it is, but it did not seem serious. Most likely he'll be back for the semis.
6th September 2004
As some of you might have heard, Jaromir said that the game against Germany might have been the last national team game he plays in his home country. That also means that the World Cup might be his last national team tournament ever. That is quite a deary thing to say, considering he has participated in two World Championships the last couple of years. But the last one was of course played in the Czech Republic, something which surely motivated him to participate.
Jaromir commented that it was sad the game against Sweden could not be played in the Czech Republic.

Finland played a tie with Sweden in the maybe most exciting game of the tournament so far. Holmström scored on Forsberg's pass with just ten seconds to go to take the game to a scoreless overtime period. The 4-4 score means Finland will play Germany, while Sweden takes on the Czechs on Tuesday.
3rd September 2004
The Czech Republic will be going into the quarters as the third team in the group.
Germany, who played Finland yesterday, were not working just as hard as they can at their best, but after the first period things could have gone any way, with both teams looking somewhat slow.
Luckily, the Czechs got a power play goal early in the second period from Zidlicky and one and a half minute later Slegr joined in on an offensive rush to score on Robert Müller to give the Czechs some well needed confidence. A little while later Jagr came flying in over the offensive blue line, picked up Prospal's pass and stepped around a defenseman to score by stretching the stick around the goalie. Jaromir, who noticably is not in that good a physical shape, gave us a quick laughter on the bench after that backhand goal, something which I had not seen on his face yet this tournament. More good things happened too, as Hejduk and Elias both scored one each to make the game 5-0 before the period was over.
Germany had a pair of goals in the third period, but could not come close enough to challenge the Czechs. Jaromir got to carry the puck up the ice with a couple of minutes to go and he immediately produced. Jagr cut right through a pair of defensemen, holding the skating, more stubborn one, away from the puck. He ended up too much to the right of the net, but perfectly set up Prospal, who made no mistake. Jaromir's second point of the night was at least as watchable as the first one!
Jagr did not look all that strong all through the game but seemed to get more confident as the game went on. He hit the post on a semi-breakaway early in the third period and created some chances for his teammates. There is still much room for improvement before he is in his top gear, but it was nevertheless very positive to see Jaromir challenge defensemen and score again.
Final score: Czech Republic 7, Germany 2.
Finland plays Sweden tomorrow. The winner of the game will meet Germany while the loser will end up playing against the Czechs.
2nd September 2004
If hockey games were just 40 minutes long you would be reading about how terrible the Czech Republic has been this tournament. But luckily there's a third period - a period which the Czechs dominated last night.
The Czechs seemed determined to get the first goal early in the first period. They were skating in a whole other manner than against Finland, noticably working hard to get into the game right from the start. But Sundin put the Swedes on top after half of the period and the Czechs were not able to score despite producing 11 shots on goal.
The second period was a disaster. The Czechs were back playing like they did in their first game. Forsberg scored an early power play goal and before the period was over the Czechs were down with a shocking 4-0 score. In all honesty, they did not have much luck either, but although Tomas Vokoun had a quite disappointing goals against average, he can't be blamed for how the second period went either.
Not sure how they managed to motivate themselves so suddenly, but the Czechs proved in the third period that against a team as skilled as them a 4-0 lead might not be enough. Suddenly you started to see some of the passing plays that only an eastern European hockey team could pull off, and they finally got some luck too as the pucks finally started to go in. Rucinsky scored early in the period. Marek Zidlicky scored the second one, before Elias, who had been pretty much invisible the whole game, struck.
The last two minutes of the game was very exciting, as the Czechs had pulled their goalie, playing six against four. They did not manage to score, but they did show everybody that they should not be counted out of the tournament that easily.
Jagr remains one of the super stars who is yet to record a point. Jaromir, who hasn't worked out almost at all this summer, has played on a line alongside Straka. Jagr created a few chances, but could not get a shot off on maybe his best opportunity of the game.Let's hope for some goals from that line tomorrow against Germany!
31st August 2004
The Czech team sure must be happy that teams make the quarter finals no matter how they play in the group round. Finland completely dominated the game last night, beating the Czechs 4-0.
There was not much to smile about in the Czech locker room after the game. Jagr did not log enough ice time, but with the Czech defense not supplying the offense with almost anything and with the Finns playing energetic powerful forechecking hockey, it would not have made a difference. Jaromir took a penalty and created just a couple of chances.
Finland had 32 shots on goal compared to the Czech's 12. Finland got production from all of their lines and Kiprusoff played just as well in goal as he did in the NHL playoffs last season.
The Czechs will have to use the rest of the games before the quarters to rebuild the team and get themselves playing at a more reasonable level. On Wednesday they meet Sweden in the Globen arena in Stockholm. Hopefully Sweden will open things up a bit more so that the Czechs will get their game going.
29th August 2004
The Czech Republic will play Finland in the first game of the World Cup tomorrow. The game is played in the Hartwall arena near the center of Helsinki.

Welcome to the new "The unofficial Jaromir Jagr site"!
Why did we update? The website has looked the same for several years now and I'm sure you were as tired as me looking at those old visuals. I have tried to make this new design quicker, more convenient and easily navigated but without the fancy and flashy (often frustrating) graphics of many modern websites. The smaller window size might come in handy if want to leave the site open and still have room for other windows. The design will still likely be upgraded in some areas the following week.
This version of the site will not feature any of the old material, so it will be much more fresh for the frequent visitor. The old TUJJS design will remain and all the old material will be available on it like always. But it will not see any major updates anymore.
