Floorball
is a new sport, it has been played (officially) only since 1985. The game is dramatically
increasing in several parts of the world, but Finland and Sweden are the countries were
the sport has done a major breakthru.
In Finland and Sweden almost everyone that has got a hockey stick has also got a floorball
stick. That probably tells you how big the sport is here.

This floorball floor has got lines
for many other sports than floorball.
Floorball is team sport that is played inside a 50 centimeter high rink that is 40 * 20
meters in size. Two teams play it out with five players and one goalkeeper in the rink at
one time. The game has a great amount of resemblance to ice hockey but lacks the element
of body contact. As you can see on the pictures goalies may not use sticks.
Here's a floorball stick and a ball.
The game is played with light sticks
designed for the game and with
a ball that is made out of plastic and has small holes in it.
(The average-price for a good stick is about $40)
The aim, as in ice hockey, is to score
goals of course. The game is very fast and flows
freely from end to end because there are no lines, as in hockey, that would dictate or
restrict the movement or progression of an offensive or a defensive team.
The game suits everyone; small or large, girl or boy. The game can be played by everyone.
You don't have to be able to skate to play it like in hockey, neither do you have to buy
expensive defense equipment or spend a lot of money on a good pair of skates.
Just a stick and a ball.
This is the charm of the game.
That's probably why it's such a popular sport in schools.
I recommend everybody who gets the chance, to try this sport out!
