9th December: "The lawsuit is dropped?"

The Ottawa Senators and the NHL drop the lawsuit with Alexei Yashin because of a agreement with Yashin. WHAT A JOKE!!!!

How many times did we see Rob Bryden go for the record of news confrences called because of this issue? I mean I personally was getting exhausted and fed up of seeing his ugly mug on the television. And all of it
was because of a million dollar cry-baby who wanted more money, I mean c'mon give the hockey world a break. In this day and age of the greatest game being changed and changed everyday was this really the biggest issue? I did not think that it was. There was numerous checks from behind and stick swinging incidents. Why did this get so much attention?

yashin.jpg (14053 bytes)Sure Alexei Yashin was and is a great player, but is he that great to garner this much attention? What has he really done so far in the league? He played for the Senators and helped guide them to the playoffs, did not win
any major awards, did not take them far in the playoffs at all. Grantted they did take Buffalo to 7 games a few years ago. And in my opinion and from remembering watching the playoffs, they did beat the Sabres in 7 games. There was a shot on net (I can't remember who it was that took the shot) and the puck just barely squeaked across the goal line. the refs went upstairs (the greatest waste of time in hockey today-it takes to long) and it was ruled no goal. When the replay that we all saw on TV was that in it was in. The same thing happened whan Brett hull supposedly scored the Stanley Cup winning goal 2 years ago. It was a high stick that made contact with the puck. Therefore no goal.

Alexei Yashin finally admitted that this whole situation was draining on him. Then why did you let it drag on for so long? Just come back, play and make people believe that you are worth the amount of cash that you think
you are worth and maybe you will get it. When Yashin was gone the Senators played even better than with him. And they are playing that way now as well, but Yashin still has done hardly anything. Yashin was quoted in saying "Of course, it has taken some time and energy, but I can't control these things...." How is that possible and how can he say that? This whole situation arose because he refused to honor his final year of his contract because he wanted more money and the team refused to give it to him.

The Senators and the NHL were originally seeking damages of $7 million US over his decision to sit out the last year of his four year contract which was to pay him $3.6 million a season. after arbitrator Lawrence Holden ruled in June that Yashin still owed the Senators a season for $3.6 million US, the claim as reduced to $930,000 US. The claim was based on a complicated equation of possible lost playoff dates, points lost
and season-ticket sales that the team may have recouped had Yashin been around.

When Yashin returned to the League it was relatively smooth although he did get booed by Sens fans for not apoligizing. He has also been booed at every NHL arena for his actions.

I think that Yashin should play out the whole season for the Senators and then be dumped by the Sens in a trade at the end of the season. The anount of the contract money that he was supposed to get should be given to charity. Not a percentage of it but all of it. After he had no regard for how the fans felt so why should the fans have regard for how he felt. It is not like he really needs the money to survive. Part of the reason that this
was done was because Yashin is supposedly making a contribution to the community. I would like to know what that is. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it
