Long Live the Nissan N12!
The car is done! Whopee! After three years of blood, sweat and tears, it's finally back on the road!
The car is just about done! I had a slight thermostat malfunction so I had to replace it. I have a set of new winter tires. My winter rims are sand blasted and painted. I've also installed a couple of extra exhaust mounts to stop the exhaust from moving around too much. I haven't quite got the rear muffler stable yet, it still moves around quite a bit. Well, I can't fix everything in one day, I guess. Anyway, now I just need a new left headlight and get the wheels aligned. After that, MOT. And after that, it's back on the road!

I just wanted to see if the engine still runs OK after these couple of years it has been unused. Haven't been driving on the road yet. Temperature outside is -2 degrees Centigrade.

This is my second slideshow summary of the car project so far. The car is coming together again, piece by piece!

This is my first slideshow summary of the car project so far. I found an old recording of the car with the old engine in place. The engine is running quite badly, as you can hear. It was about time to replace the engine.

I've had a cold air intake previously on my old engine, but it was so DIY that I had to make a better version. The carb is tuned for the old cold air intake so it was running a bit rich with the original intake temporarily fitted. I probably will have to re-adjust the carb for this cold air intake as this has 3-inch piping whereas my old cold air intake had 2 1/4 -inch piping. I recently bought this almost-new air filter from a friend that is working on the restoration of my car together with his boss. Pscchhhhhht! The filter has a nice sound to it!

The valve noise gets smaller all the time, so I haven't adjusted the valve clearances yet. If I adjust it now, I might make the valve clearance too small. Compare this video to the first video (below), the difference is clearly audible. And all I've done is run the engine a couple of times. There must have been a lot of soot deposits and corrosion in the valve seats.

The engine starts well, I don't need to crank this engine as much as the old engine I had. This is a 1985 N12 Cherry E15S engine in my 1984 N12 Cherry. Its mileage is 205000 km whereas my old E15S engine had 385000 km. That old engine will be rebuilt and converted to the E15ET setup, that is, the Cherry Turbo engine. But meanwhile, I drive around with this engine that is in good condition and it has a gearbox that is in good condition. A reliable setup, I hope the E15ET proves to be as reliable as the E15S.
