Kyrönjoki

Kyrönjoki is the biggest river in South Ostrobothnia and it can be said, that South Ostrobothnia province is build upon the Kyrönjoki and the river valley.

River, that arises from Kauhajoki Kauhajärvi, is 204 kilometers long and 144 meters above the sea level.

There are 24 councils in Kyrönjoki watercourse area. The Following councils are in the riverside; Kauhajoki, Kurikka, Ilmajoki, Seinäjoki, Nurmo, Ylistaro, Isokyrö, Vähäkyrö, Mustasaari and Maksamaa.

Watercourse area has a versatile nature, from a barn area to marsh area, from lower courses to fields and fom delta to archipelago area.

To fishing industry Kyrönjoki is extensive entirety, because in addition to main bed, it comprises tributaries, steams, man-made lakes and delta areas.

Fishing has a great meaning in Kyrönjoki. In the river and in front of the sea areas live altogether 60 fish species.

It tells something about the scenic value of Kyrönjoki, that the river is chosen as one of our country´s national landscapes and in the area there are four national-wide valuable landscape totalities. In addition to these totalities the area has meny valuable cultural environment destinations.
